A Dutch CM from Ajax :drool: I have no doubts about this signing. He will be great for us like Bruno.

Do you really believe this is our only signing? I think it was between DVB and Grealish.Sadly for Grealish he priced himself out the move.

Id argue against the last line. Bayern get away with it because they play a high line and have Muller working back with Thiago and the midfield working incredibley hard. The ball playing, deep laying midfielder are being fazed out of modern football because they encourage the high press from oppostion midfields.
Nobody really keeps the ball and plays through the middle anymore. Even Pep sacrificed this a little bit with Rodri and Gundogan in there.
Even PSG turned a corner in CL with 2 hard working ball winners in midfield with Verrati injured.
 
We need squad depth if we want to compete in 50+ games in all competitions. Part of that is having many good players for the same position, and midfield is especially key.

Yesss. Love this. Great physique that will suit the premier league. Love his pressing ability and creativity with and without the ball. He's a machine and shows up in big games. For the price I prefer him over Grealish. Now for a right sided winger.

I think if anyone Fred is the most at threat with this. McTominay is newly signed up and I think the club are preparing for him to be the long term Matic replacement. It would explain why we are not seemingly looking for a purely defensive player.

Fred now looks like he could hold some value on the market compared to a season ago where he looked like a gigantic flop. If we could recoup a large percentage of the VDB fee it would be good business for us, as much as I like Fred.

Its difficult to know what the sweet spot is in terms of numbers. You can never have too many quality midfielders, but its hard to see us being able to give enough football to keep 6 of them happy and, more crucially, in good match form.
 
Love Ajax. They seem to sell players fast especially players that have been good to them.
