I watch Ajax maybe 15/20 times a year, and watch most all Dutch NT matches.

A good place to start is Fred, he's quite a similar player, decent at everything.

DVB is four years younger, has a much higher ceiling and is a better player right now.

Fred is 5 foot 7, DVB is 6 foot, so 5 inches taller and maybe 20/25 lbs heavier.

Fred is faster, although DVB is better at pressing and counter pressing space and angles so I think thats about equal.

DVB has better shot but dont expect too many goals. Passing ability is about equal but again DVB is just a more intelligent player.

His defensive qualities are about equal but he's just a bigger guy so more physically imposing.

In our system I would imagine he would rotate in the 2 CM behind bruno and a big plus is being able to play CAM if we rest Bruno.

I dont quite see how we keep Bruno/Pogba/Matic/Fred/Mct/Mata/Lingard/Perriera
+ DVB, happy since they all want to play in a midfield 3. In my mind I would have gone after a more defensive CM like Tonali which would mean letting Pogba start as an 8 but also play a 10 when we rest Bruno.

Overall I would be much much happier with us getting him than Grelish but again Tonali would be my #1.

3 of those I don't think anyone really wants to see playing in our shirt again

Wasn't overly impressed in the games I've seen him in, Ziyech and De Ligt were the ones that stood out the most (well them and Blind :()
He is like a hybrid of Herrera and Fred, a transitional player that keeps things ticking. So it's not suprising that he doesn't stand out, but he contributes to lots of Ajax's moves both offense and defense.

If that’s the case then great and I’ll fully back that.

Just worry that after this is announced we might get the dreaded brief about dropping the pursuit of Sancho.

There’s one signing that elevates us in this window and I was hoping we would secure him first and then move on to signings like this, but vice versa I’d still be over the moon with.
I feel like it would be incredibly difficult for Utd to walk away from the Sancho deal at this stage.

Utd have been working on this since 2017. They’ve wanted him from the days he was at city. And then tried again last summer. They are literally in pole position now and the board will know how much they’ve put into it. By hook or crook I honestly believe we’ll get it over the line.

This is not like Haaland or Bellingham. We’ve invested far too much time and effort into chasing him to then turn our backs on it when the fee being asked is actually a reasonable one for his talents.

Happy for a signing, but this one is very underwhelming for me. Especially at the cost of potentially Grealish or Maddison. We do need more strength in the middle but DvdB?!?! He always seemed so meh.

It maybe a good thing though as I was underwhelmed with Bruno and we know how that turned out.

Provided we get Sancho, he'd be a good signing as he can provide cover for Pogba or Bruno. I imagine if we're chasing a game we could even play VDB, Pogba and Bruno together.

From what I gather he isn't really a Matic alternative, but I guess Fred and McT will have to cover that role.

Shite source but the Mail are also parroting the 'monitoring' VDB news along with claiming that we've held some talks with Villa regarding Grealish

Zero clue how we'd be able to afford him given Villa's asking price yet not Ole's number 1 target since he got the job

Just been doing some reading on Dutch newspapers and forums. Most media and fans see him going to Utd.

Ajax fans don't seem to bothered if the fee is right. Good player, but disappears a lot in games. He's better than Pereira or Lingard either way.

Well, I haven't seen much of Donny to judge whether he is/will be better than Fred. But as far as our record of signing players with 'van' in their names goes, we usually hit the mark. Hopefully, Van de Beek will also follow along the line of Nistelrooy, Van Der Sar, Van Persie.

Would wager that they're not bothered because it's expected

The spine of that CL semi-final reaching squad has already been gutted and it looks like the likes of Tagliafico, Onana and VDB are also on the way out

They have nothing and are literally just parroting as you said. If they had the inside scoop they would label it Exclusive.

For the money and wages I think VdB is a better deal than Grealish. VdB is cover at CAM and CM while Grealish is more CAM and LW. I love VdB movement and passing in and around the box and he is awesome pressing. Minus his passport seems to tick all the boxes Ole talks about, attitude, hardworking, etc.

This could be why there are the rumors of a Fred loan?? I would still like to keep Fred as cover for Matic and hopefully VdB can cut into Mata, Lingard and Pereira's games. Would be a huge upgrade.

Where would he play? I thought he was an AM, so can him, Bruno and pogba play together?

Grealish is the better player and would cover Pogba, Bruno and Rashford, if we’re still getting Sancho, he can cover Bruno, therefore what’s the need for DVB, unless we aren’t getting Sancho.

5-7 weeks of low balling Ajax to save 24p and we might have a deal!
