Think he will compete for the #10 spot with Bruno, rather than the likes of Jesse/Andreas. This seems like a balanced midfield :

Pogba/Fred--Mctominay/Matic
------------Bruno/VDB
There’s no way we’d be signing him to compete with Bruno. He’ll be where you’ve got Fred/McTominay or perhaps Matic. He’d be our Fabinho/Gundogan type

Shit I just got yanked out of the general forum.... Forgot transfer forum existed... Yes this looks like a good spot to pitch a tent... Wheres @VanGaalEra at

I haven’t been on here since Corona shut shit down. I think this might be bullshit, we’re finally stacked in this area.

He's a 10/8 like Bruno why would we sign him to compete with players who are already solid he'd be the 5th choice midfielder for the pivot

I had wondered if we were looking to play him there too but think the plan is for him to be further forward.

Still got no idea why we seemingly aren't looking for a Fabinho/Rodri type player, can only be because Matic is still there for a bit.

I've seen people mention that Pogba could play a more defensive role in order to let Bruno and possibly VdB if he comes here express themselves.
Only problem is : would he really want to do so? Pogba is a man with an ego, more than that Pogba is a man who has shown times and times he wasn't happy with the current state of the club as far as performances goes hence why there's all these rumors linking him elsewhere.

Would Pogba really want to play lower down the pitch to accommodate a player like Van De Beek? When Pogba is even better than him at what VdB does best? I don't know.

The more pertinent question is: does he have the skill set to play more defensively? My unanimous answer to that question is NO!! I think Pogba will be gone this summer and hence the links to VDB and Grealish

Didn't have a problem with France

Pogba can play in a pivot, but with a #6, someone like Kante. I think Matic/McTominay can do the role well. I think he struggled with Utd in the role because not only did he have to bring the ball out, but also be the creator, because Pereira/Lingard were crap at creating from the #10 position. I think now with Bruno shouldering that responsibility, Pogba can play his games as the deep lying playmaker/the link player between the defence and attack.

Pogba--Matic
------Bruno

In this setup, VDB can play Bruno or Pogba's role. But with Fred also playing Pogba's role, I'm assuming we would be getting VDB to replace Andreas/Lingard. Thats fine. But it would be very underwhelming if we replace Pogba with VDB.

Ducker is very reliable and he's implying we're targeting Grealish Havertz and VdB because of Pogba's uncertain future

This is a good post, the lack of a creative midfielder definitely put too much onus on Pogba to link defense to midfield and midfield to attack.

It doesnt matter anymore. Pogba has already been sacrificing himself for 3 years to play in a double pivot with players like Rooney, Lingard, Mkhitaryan, Periera etc all playing ahead of him and never complained while he was by far the most creative player in the club. The only that wasnt the case and he was allowed attacking freedom (December 2018-Feb 2019) he was already the best player in the league and singlehandedly gave Ole the job while outprodcuing strikers/wingers. But we never committed to building around him for 3 years so why would anything change now?

Never mind how good he is in the Advanced midfield role, since he's big, tall and strong he should do defensive work. I mean why sign a specialist DLP or DM while Pogba is here we should play him there, buy a inferior player for him to accomadate (therefore all the links to AM's) and all is good. That is likely the plan

Links happen nomatter what. They are just preparing in case, doesnt mean it will happen. Only Real is really an option atm and they are telling fans they wont get a refund on season tickets.

Is this sacarsm. We're not the only ones that played him in a pivot. So did France. I too want him to play as the most advanced midfielder but three different coaches have opted to play him as the DLP and I'm pretty sure I don't know better than them

I never really like these types of transfers. Reminds me of the ADM transfer, where he didn't really want to come but he couldn't stay at Real neither.

Not getting a great sense of enthusiasm regarding this potential signing around here.

I've thought all along the links to us were to get Madrid to pay up, I don't doubt they'll be interest from us but he's probably on a list with the likes of Grealish and probably 3rd or 4th choice on that list

I think we may pass just like we did on Dybala because Van De Beek wants to go to Madrid more so than to us.

Think many dont know exactly what to do with him, and/or is abit sceptical because the league he is playing in.

Getting him for £40 mill. is a good deal regarding his age and potential

Listened to the Spurs podcast from the Athletic today and the journo speaking on the topic of Kane leaving said "There's only United that can afford him (Kane) and they're going after Sancho and Grealish". I think the VDB interest is a one-sided story and Ajax are looking to sell for a big fee.

It’s quite logical that we and Ajax could cooperate to get Graelish price down for us and Real to get nervous about VdB for them , yeah.

Will be interesting to see.

I disagree with this. Van De Beek is different to Angel Di Maria. It's a known fact that Van De Beek is a team player with a good attitude. His mentality fits right in with the attitude that Ole is trying to develop. I don't get why people compare this to when we signed Di Maria.

Because this smacks of convenience of marriage, like it did with ADM. This is where the comparison come from, well from my part anyway.

When you say, "I don't get why people compare this to when we signed Di Maria", there must be some similarities to this and ADM transfer. So naturally, people will compare. Of course, it doesn't mean it will be the same consequences if he does complete the transfer to us.

Well yeah of course there is similarities. But to say it will be like Di Maria is wrong. You do realize that Di Maria was at a different stage in his career. Di Maria was world class and just played a huge part in helping Real Madrid win the champions league. So obviously didn't want to come to us as we just finished 7th in the league. Donny Van De beek is just starting out and just has the potential to be world class. He isn't there yet so I imagine he wouldn't mind joining Manchester United. Plus a good chance we have champions league football. So besides the marriage of convenience how is the Di Maria situation similar? Also Donny Van De beek would move to Manchester United from Ajax which is a step up. Angel Di Maria moved from Real Madrid to Manchester United which was a step down.

The guy has all the attributes to become a deep lying playmaker. This signing should be a no brainer.
In 2021, I would like this to be United's midfield:

Bruno, VdS, Ndidi, Fred, McTominay, Mejbri.

I think Van De Beek would still be open to joining Manchester United. Ajax to Manchester United is a big step up. Not like he would be taking a step down like Dybala would be. Think he would be a great signing.

United is far bigger club and brand than Juventus ever could be. I agree Madrid is definitely bigger and more decorated than United. Dybala is not suitable to United's style of play and many south americans still don't like english conditions.[/QUOTE]

Never believed we would sign Dybala or that he wanted to come. Wanted Bruno Fernandes as he actually wanted to play for us.

Does feel a bit like this is to get Real to stump up the dosh.

Going to be a strange transfer window with no-one really confident to pay and sellers not wanting to let go for cheap. Each year is very important for a player and some will be left hanging around.

If Real aren't buying anyone, they're going to be in for a long wait to stump up the cash aren't they? I'm seeing practically no genuine rumours of the big boys in Spain doing much this summer.

He's vest attribute is his movement and scorin goals as a midfielder. Why push him all the way back to DLP and take that away

If you reread my post you originally commented on, I said this transfer reminds of it. And it is exactly the marriage of convenience that reminds me of it.
