If you reread my post you originally commented on, I said this transfer reminds of it. And it is exactly the marriage of convenience that reminds me of it.
I did read your post. If you read my post properly I stated the differences clearly. The only similarity is we are the only club in for him and therefore yes it is convenient for both parties. I mean Ajax are not a European super power like Real Madrid.

I watched DVB quite a few times and he just to me looks like a Spurs player. Decent but not top 4 player.

I said it reminds me of ADM situation, I didn't say it was going to turn out like ADM.

The clear fact is, no one will know what the situation behind the scenes are. The kind of signings we have made under Ole have been all good and get a sense that the player wanted to come to United. But let's see.

I see enough in his game to suggest with time he could be a deeper lying controller like carrick
Agreed on this one he’s tactically astute it would take him time but I don’t see what he’s missing to adapt to it.

I just feel it would be a shame to move him too deep as he’s great box to box.

Also the Di Maria comparisons I understand why you might suggest but other then both involving Madrid being first choice and us 2nd that’s about it.

Di Maria was messed about by LVG moved all over the pitch and didn’t exactly have a great experience in Manchester. He was at his peak not a younger up and coming player.

So there is a link but it’s so tenuous I don’t see the relevance to be honest.

Doesn't make any sense to me what so ever. With the return of Pogba and the addition of Bruno i think we have a healthy partnership and we have 3 holding midfielders who are more than capable of doing the job. I think we do need Van De Beek but he must play only when necessary and should not be part of the midfield 3 week in week out, which i don't suppose he wants. We should just play Mata, Periera or Lingard in midfield when either Pogba or Bruno needs a rest. We are just fine in midfield options and only need an addition on the right wing.

Is this sacarsm. We're not the only ones that played him in a pivot. So did France. I too want him to play as the most advanced midfielder but three different coaches have opted to play him as the DLP and I'm pretty sure I don't know better than them
Not sarcasm but the truth. Pogba has been held back for 4 years accomadating dross, even his heat map in a 3 has sometimes shown him at DM. It's quite sad.
And using France is a bad excuse. France mainly produces workhorse midfielders that arent good on the ball so Pogba has to sacrifice himself for the nation because otherwise the system cannot work. But we arent a nation but one of the biggest clubs in world. If we want to buy a decent DM its not that hard. Also managerrs are hardly infallible, it can hardly be denied that Pogba best matches (Everton, City 2018, Dec 18-Feb19) have been with two/three hardworking players behind him. If at this point you still think his place is a pivot you have to be very deluded.
Who pays 90m for a quarterback  What a waste

He’d be a handy squad option to have. If we can get a good deal, we probably should go for it.

Suggestions of playing him in a deeper role reminds me of us buying Kagawa and then using him on the left.

The difference being that VdB is defensively very astute/intelligent and tactically very clued on. He's played the role before and has done well in doing so. His distribution is good too from a deeper role and he would've been deployed in the role more often if it wasn't for the arrival of the superior talent Frenkie de Jong. Kagawa I couldn't ever imagine playing so deep.

Never said anything about Kagawa playing deep. We played Kagawa on the left, which clearly wasn't his best position and suggesting van de Beek is the right fit for a deeper role based on a very limited amount of appearances there is a stretch. Actually go for someone who's played there consistently or is a specialist, like his teammate Lisandro Martinez. If we want to buy van de Beek as squad option that competes with Bruno and Pogba, go for it, he's better than that though.

It's clear Pogba's best position is as the most advanced midfielder. But I will always come back to Ole. He's the one who has gotten the most out of Pogba by playing him as the most advanced midfielder. The following season instead of playing Pogba there he switched formation and plays him deeper while Lingard is now the most advanced midfielder. Now that we've bought Bruno there is no way Pogba is coming back as the most advanced midfielder which most agree is his best position.

Why did Ole who has personally seen him flourish as the most advanced midfielder decide to play him deeper? We could have easily played Pogba further forward with two of Matic Mctominay or Fred behind. Pogba's best position is as the most advanced midfielder so why buy Bruno who would take that role both with Pogba out from injury and when he returns? Unless of course you plan to play Pogba deeper

Sorry I thought you meant we played Kagawa deeper.

The thing is we don't know how good he could become in a deeper role because he's still quite young at 23. Everytime i've seen him deployed deeper he looks very good. And since Frenkie de Jong departed Ajax, Ajax have used VdB in a deeper role more often especially in the UCL to help with the build up.

That's the thing for me, I don't think he's that good in terms of the build up. There are players his age that have impressed me a lot more in that regard. IMO his best role quite clearly is that of Bruno and he has similar strengths. For 50m I think we should use him the right way and not shoehorn into something that he might become later in his career.

I personally would go for Zakaria eventhough my dream signing would be Camavinga but I feel Madrid are onto him. 50m is excessive for VdB for sure imo and i'd rather give Garner games rather than shell that amount on VdB if i'm honest.

Yeah, Camavinga would be priority for me as well, but he seems unlikely. Zakaria for some reason I am not convinced by yet. I'd really like Lisandro Martinez or Locatelli or as a cheaper option Koopmeiners. Florentino Luis is probably too expensive.

With all due respect... you would see where the careers of all these you mentioned go and where VdB will end up. He is an elite level talent. And most likely will have a career tragectory like Kroos, Carrick, Silva.
Camavinga, Zakaria may be the next best things currently. But in my view I don't see them flourishing at elite level. Canavinga can, if he stays humble and spends 2,3 years more at mid table club before jumping to Madrid or similar club.

I would have thought the Real Madrid interest would be for him to be the successor for Kroos - someone of that calibre would surely be worth looking at for 40-50m euros.

Trouble is VDB is better than all of those players. Would be better to let the 3 of them go, get them off the wage bill. We would still have 5 midfielders and 6 with VDB.

Still don't see this happening unless Pogba is off. Just think we are being used by his agent.

He's not going to come to us to be a back up player. He's far too good for that. And we don't need a CM this summer if everyone is staying.

Exactly this. VdB would be underutilized playing him deeper and it makes no sense buying him and playing him away from his best position. Just get someone that plays deeper if that's what you're looking for. If we are getting him to replace Lingard on the bench then I think that's fantastic. It would give us very strong midfield depth. Starting midfield would be Bruno as AM and Pogba and Fred in a pivot. Alternative would be VdB as AM with Matic and Mctominay in a pivot.

Never gonna happen of course but Pogba (if he doesn't commit) for De Ligt + money (Juve can't buy him if not player exchange), Partey, VdB and Sancho will be an excellent summer. I can see only one transfer though.

VDB is the perfect replacement for Lingard or Pereira. He's got more quality and he would easily get game time if the latter two were moved on. Garner could be promoted as well. I know it's a piped dream but bringing in Havertz to play the SS role wouldn't be bad at all if we get priced out for Sancho. I think Havertz behind a strikeforce of Martial and Rashford could do good damage. Pogba plays as a LM and Bruno as a RM with Fred/ Mctominay as a DM and have a back 5.....

---------------- Rashford --------------- Martial ----------------
---------------------------------- Havertz ----------------------------
Williams ---------- Pogba ------------------- Bruno ------ AWB
-------------------------------- Fred/ MCT -------------------------

Genius, let's play with 12 players. I"m surprised you are the first to come up with this idea.

It's true! I'd do that deal but i think Mata and Lingard extended their contracts and Periera might leave if the right offer arrives. I would keep Mata because he is an amazing player with a wonderful read of the game. He works wonderfully well alongside players who are creative and can make those darting runs or find his darting runs into the box. He's been let down by his pace but i think he'll be good for the teams in the second half of the table and the cup games. Bruno or Pogba can do wonders with him around them. He has an amazing first touch which i adore!

No goal-keeper? That’s insanity.

Edit: sorry I didn’t actually notice practically everyone has mentioned this.

I think your pretty close to what's going to happen or how Ole wants us to line up, but to make it work he needs a CDM that can drop in to CB and create a back 3. Considering we have a nice pair of defensive fullbacks, when the CDM does drop in to the back line it allows the freedom for the rest of the midfield to play freely or even our ball playing defenders to get more forward.

It's kind of a balance between a 352 and a 4231 done with a diamond.

Havertz and Martial can play as the support striker/False 9( whilst Havertz also has the ability to play the CM positions competing with Pogba/Bruno and the RF position off Greenwood). I've just kept him off since we haven't signed him.

The CDM who kind of shields and drops to create a back 3 allows us to play 235 attacking and defensive of a 532.

I'm not saying that Zakaria is the right player but players including him, lisandro Lopez, mckennie, rice, Kalvin Phillips and even our own James Garner could possibly do this.

Here’s another one!

You can’t play twelve players, mate.
