Donald Trump - GUILTY!

This type of stuff really annoys me. I'm not politically minded in any way, don't really care for US politics at all tbh, and have no real idea what Trump is meant to have done. What does annoy me is that he will now obviously claim "it's all rigged" and spend ages calling out the courts, judges, and all and sundry, and claim he's innocent, even when he's been found guilty of all charges.

And redneck America will believe this, and be all over social media claiming a conspiracy. the mindset of people these days is actually insane. Something doesn't go your way, conspiracy. Something happening that you don't agree with, conspiracy.

It's the end of the world as we know it.

this sounds like a conspiracy to me.

I do wonder how vindictive a Trump admin will be to everyone involved in this. Bit like how every signature on King Charles I death warrant was hunted and killed, once his son restored the monarchy.

Can see Trump and his supporters going after the DA, the judge and lawyers involved once he’s in office. Or tit for tat legal proceedings.

If Biden wins again, a pardon for Trump might be a prudent political move.
Biden can’t pardon Trump because these are state charges. The President can only issue pardons on charges in a Federal Court.

America used to be a crazy place. Now it’s truly gone. I haven’t been there in a long time. 20 years ago there, I occasionally encountered the harsh, racist underbelly. Now that’s the dominant fashionable view. There still is an educated, politically moderate lobby. I’m not a Biden fan, but God help the planet if this thug is elected or somehow takes power next time around. The right are on the rise here too, of course make no mistake.

Think this will be a disaster for the Democrats. Trump now underdog hero among ordinary Americans. Their only hope will be to somehow lock him up, but I think they've played their cards and this whole thing will back fire.

Have the democrats actually been involved in his crimes/indictments in any way?

This was from a recent ABC IPSOS poll. Up to 20% of his voting base are up for grabs.

More than I expected.

Insane that you can get found guilty for something like this and still run for president.
Its more insane that millions will still vote for him, maybe even the majority. And the likes of Musk etc will still suck up to him. No matter what he does. Sexual abuse, prostitutes, forgery, stealing classified documents. It doesn't matter. The world has gone mad

It's actually the only case that will have potential impact on the election.

Absolutely wild that the cases of insurrection and attempted election fraud in Georgia haven't been addressed before the next election comes around. Completely, totally and utterly bonkers.

Depends how you define "the Democrats". The DA in New York, Alvin Bragg, is a Democrat, so in that sense they are involved. But Biden's DOJ is not involved in this.

Surely there are repercussions for calling a judge corrupt on live television?

It’s still hilarious to me that people are dying on the hill to protect a guy who paid a porn star hush money during a Presidential election.

Think the judge was corrupt, think the whole thing is a Democrat scheme, think all he’s guilty of is a bookkeeping error. But he still paid off a porn star to hide an affair from you - and you want this circus act to be your President again?

Did that juror also state they wouldn't vote for Trump? If not I don't see how it's relevant. Let's wait for a new round of polls. If they show a meaningful slide for Trump I'll gladly admit I was wrong.
The juror certainly didn’t vote for him yesterday.

A staggering amount of time wasted and a huge missed opportunity for anyone who wanted to see Trump behind bars for his blatant criminality. If he's elected in November, he gets away scot-free.

Unless they give him a lethal injection I don't see how this verdict does anything. Trump voters will still vote for him, everyone who cares would already have gotten of the Trump train.

Biden is still shit and won't pull people who dont care about politics to the voting booths.

I'm team lethal injection.

It's not that mad, and actually makes a lot of sense when you boil it down to the essence.

People support Trump because they believe he will be the toughest/nastiest/meanest to the types of people they hate. And to them that's all that matters.

Yes, but there will be an appeal and now there is no time to finish with that.
First appeal is to NYC, they'll deal with that in a matter of days or weeks, SCOTUS aren't going to touch this with a bargepole

We are in a social media era where people admire, follow and support a person rather than a football team or a basketball team etc.

Plenty of Trump supporters will continue to support him because they have already given so much time and effort. They don't want to give up what they have been supporting for such a long time and want to believe that the person they chose for Presidency is correct. People don't like to be wrong.

Nope, that's the first amendment for you, but railing and railing against the fella that's gonna pass sentence on you is really stupid

In the normal scheme of things what Trump has been found guilty of would get probation and a fine, but the max sentence is 4 years per charge = a potential total of 170 years, do you really wanna piss off the guy who decides!

It's normally unwise to call a judge corrupt when they still get to pick what your punishment is. In this case, I am not sure it matters.

Yeah, let’s let someone get away with repeated criminal offenses because it might galvanize his supporters.
Something is wrong with you people.

First amendment means you can call him a dickhead, but surely saying he’s corrupt is defamation?

This is a huge part of it. They deify him to the point where they will simply deny anything bad said or written about him, and call it fake news, a plot, or something else. Ironically, these Republicans that behave this way are the same people that will wear "Don't tread on me" t-shirts, while being completely submissive to their chosen authority figure.

What? Pardon would be the worst thing to do.

Presidents getting pardoned is what got the US here in the first place, starting with Nixon.

Leaders being immune from justice is not good.

It's not that mad, and actually makes a lot of sense when you boil it down to the essence.

Does it?

The Rubicon has been crossed, a US former President has been found guilty in a court of law of offences committed whilst running for, or actually in the highest Office... and incidentally when the incumbent of the Office is still recognised as 'Leader of the Free World'.

That world may never be the same again.

The imagery going forward, with Trump playing the part of (Billy the Kid) gets taken down by Bragg (playing the part of Pat Garret) and it's all passing into folk lore in the US.

The story of Donald Trump, Ex-President, convicted felon... and maybe (yet) even future President, is set to run and run...

REPRISE
How in heavens name did Trump get to be the Presidential Candidate for GOP in the first place?
How did he get to become the President?

Viewed from a far, it did seem at times that Trump knew he was living the dream and he was always expecting to be awakened from this dream...somewhere, somehow.... but (it seemed, as much to his own surprise) his wagon kept on rolling, even when at times the wheels looked as if they were coming off.

If you were watching a movie of all this, then when eventually the Democrats finally get their act together (by working hard to get out the vote in swing states) and defeat him in the next Presidential race, you would think its all over, even when Trump ridiculously ties himself in knots and spend millions of dollars trying to prove 'a fix'.

But no, someone somewhere decides to 'poke the bear' and even though Trump's wagon was now completely lacking wheels and he was slowly sinking in the into the sunset, suddenly he's alive again because it's been decided to make him pay; by doing something that had never been done before, i.e an ex-President would be made to face criminal charges arising from his time as candidate/President.

Now a new chapter of Donald Trump's story is opening up, will he go to prison; will he still run for office; will the GOP ditch him at the last minute as Presidential candidate, will he be brought before the courts over other charges, even if he is re-elected?

This story is going to run and run.... books, articles, movies are all being planned this morning, to capture the spirit of (depending how you view things) the story of a Rogue brought to book.... or a Martyr of the people, brought down by the Deep State.

Only in America... don't you just love it?

I think the key to all this is celebrity culture. I think you can attack it on the basis of someone cooler not buying into his myth, saying he is old hat, etc. Biden as everyone says is not an ideal opponent. Michelle Obama might have been.

Republicans would have turned her into the next Hillary and she would have been considered a Barack Obama puppet with no mind of her own. She’s already been turned into a Soros style bogie man

Yeah, at one point Republicans were shitting themselves and inventing all kinds of stories about how she was going to announce her candidacy. We even had people on here insisting it would happen.

People support Trump because they believe he will be the toughest/nastiest/meanest to the types of people they hate. And to them that's all that matters.
And they think like that because their belief systems are shaped by a chunk of the media that promotes hate and division (not to mention the US is the pinnacle of a highly unequal, individualistic, profit over everything modern society), while educational systems aren't doing a good enough job (lack of funding, not because of teachers) to develop people's critical faculties to challenge said narratives. Nothing will change until inequality is systematically addressed.
