Donald Trump - GUILTY!

Trump is guilty as hell, but my point is that if you have a witness, who is caught stealing from his boss, albeit as part of another scheme, it further damages his legitimacy in the eyes of jurors.

Luckily the jury must have realised that he was merely confirming evidence given by others already. It might well have been more problematic if the conviction relied on his evidence alone. It also probably didn't help the defence that a) the very pro-Trump National Enquirer guy said something to the effect that Cohen wouldn't even pick up a lunch bill as he didn't have express permission from Trump, b) Trump failed to take the stand despite saying he would, and c) the defense never really came up with an alternative theory or narrative.

Convicted felon running for president? Yes, no problem.
Convicted felon applying for a job at McDonalds? No, feck off.

The ones who are still Trump aren't enough to win, as @Raoul says he needs independents to win and there have been plenty of polls that show that there are many people who won't vote for him if he's a convicted felon, Trump loses 2-3% of independents he's toast

You would think that it is getting less and less likely that floating voters (independent in the poll) will move on average towards Trump and that is what he needs to win.

I thought that Michael Cohen ruined the case for the prosecution.

The prosecution did a good job of setting expectation before he testified. Nobody denied that he was a lying knobhead or that he hated Trump. But as he was mainly just confirming what other believable witnesses said it wasn't fatal.

God will appeal it all the way to the high court (if they agree to hear it) on the grounds that its a) mean, b) unfair because reason and c) its just Mabo, its just the vibe your honour (The Castle reference).

Yes, but there will be an appeal and now there is no time to finish with that.
Don't necessarily disagree on your timing, but you do have to remember how ignorant & lazy the American electorate is politically - it would potentially be lost in the white noise.

Well yes, I agree, although you can say that for all the countries in the world. (Except for those who cannot vote at all! )

I don't think that Americans are worse than Europeans. For example, Germans were voting for Merkel for 16 years straight, England voted for Brexit, Italy and Greece voted for clowns, and so on.

Anyway, let's hope that this conviction, and all the other shit Trump has done, will be enough to push the vote a little bit and make Trump lose the election. And that will be the end for him. (I hope! )

Trump is gonna run again in 28 if he loses this one, book it.

Convicted and sentenced he will remain even if he appeals. And it would be very bizarre if this got to the supreme court if he fails in lower courts. But it is Trump and the court is to the right of Gengis Kahn.

Lifelong Republican Jim Sullivan, 54, twice hesitantly backed Donald Trump - but the court's verdict has changed his mind, he says:

I'm not a big Trump fan and I'm not a lawyer, but - based on what I was reading - this seemed like a very clumsy case. It basically ensures that Trump, unless he goes to jail, is going to win re-election now.

I feel like the jury was led to a foregone conclusion. And I do think this judge has a bias. This was politically motivated. What stood out to me was how they really hemmed in Donald Trump, keeping him under wraps with gag orders. They wanted to keep him in a box and they kept him silent as much as they could.

I was leaning toward Trump and I'm probably going to end up supporting him once again. Seeing Joe Biden’s policies and the way he's conducting himself, I don't think he's got the stamina or the ability to do the job for very much longer. The border has been blown wide open. The economy just stinks...

I don't want to jump down the rabbit hole and say I’m not voting for [Trump]. But I do think he's going to be vindictive. This is a bad day for America. We've crossed the Rubicon. If he wins, I think he's going to go out and start punishing folks.

[Jim calls back 10 minutes later]

There’s no way I can support a convicted felon as president. He’ll have to appeal and win for that to change. But I’m definitely not voting for Biden.

Is there any real consequence to this? Expecting no jail time and the fine is essentially a slap on the wrist. Everyone with a sane mind knows he is a thick cnut so his reputation hardly takes a hit there as his fanatics will stick by him no matter what. And to top it all off he can run for President still!

Why the feck are reporters still profiling hardcore Trump fans? This guy is voting Trump no matter what. He saw what he did during COVID and the Jan 6 hearings and has the gall to claim his "hesitant" feck right off. He's an embarrassed Trump fan. He hates all his social circles laughing at him so he plays this stupid schtick.

At the time, even more than a few republicans had issues with January 6th, but somehow, "everyone" has forgotten Trump tried to overthrow the government since then.

Its like the electorates attention-span is only a few months at maximum.

I'm really surprised, thought at best we'd get a handful of guilties interspersed with non-convictions. Well then, convicted felon Donald J. Trump does have a ring to it.

No one knows how this will influence the electorate. The hypotheticals asked previously mean nothing imo - this isn't a reality many expected.

They'll try to spin it, but the fact is not only is he a convicted felon, he's been convincted of illegally attempting to manipulate an election.

As those plugged-in have been saying: Trump hasn't increased his support, it's just Biden's has fallen faster. This will trim at the edges of those still willing to vote for him, for sure. Will it be enough? No one knows at this point.

Insane that you can get found guilty for something like this and still run for president.

I do wonder how vindictive a Trump admin will be to everyone involved in this. Bit like how every signature on King Charles I death warrant was hunted and killed, once his son restored the monarchy.

Can see Trump and his supporters going after the DA, the judge and lawyers involved once he’s in office. Or tit for tat legal proceedings.

If Biden wins again, a pardon for Trump might be a prudent political move.
