Dominoes draft

Pretty sure everyone saw it coming to be honest, even as soon as after Fontaine pick, not to mention going to Austria next.

I thought we would reach Krankl soon at the start.
I guess no one goes to pre war Nazi ruled Austria and comes back alive

Yeah thats what broke the camels back.

I understand not opening Brazil but Uruguay was a decent midpoint.

It has been very fun draft so far and we were bound to fall in the rabbit hole eventually. It was probably a tad too early, but we have 3 extra picks so everybody should be ok.

Love the drama so far. :D

No way that would've happened with after Fontaine. Marche and Jonquet were the only viable and known options, so that was expected and would drag us to the early 40's. There are 3 generations between them and Krankl

Hanappi played at Rapid Wein till 1965, Krankl started there at 1970. All that was needed was a 5 year bridge player.

Right... I could take us to 1979 Bundesliga but there really has to be some kind of incentive for us drafters at the bottom of the list. Otherwise it’s just not worth opening up a pool of excellent players and then having to wait 10-15 turns while all the really good players get picked again.

Good players always lead to good players. Longer careers, better link up with others. If you want to have a good option after 10-15 turns you got to open up the pool a bit. Expecting to pick one club duds and someone else just 3-4 picks before you to clean up the mess won't work IMO as we've already seen.

Otherwise you'll be looking at 60's Belgian league once again when it comes to your turn.

It really depends of you are looking to get better players for you at the end of the next turn, or obscurity again.

There is loads and loads of quality players still left and with modern link up you'll get a shot of few GOAT's yourself.

But that's exactly what will happen for those at the top. Loads of people could have bitten the bullet and just picked the youngest player possible to move us forward but no one has until now.

It's true that the bottom is going to get shafted having to wait so long to pick again, however I'm over it now and bored with going round in circles so I'd rather have a worse team than those at the top as long as I enjoy the drafting stage

From round 1-3 you guys at the bottom(10-16) picked Cruyff, Platini, Scirea, Baresi, Maldini, Facchetti, Zanetti, Davids, Carlos, Van Basten... Hardly inferior to the guys we picked from 1-6, apart from of course Lord Sinister getting lucky with his picks.

Since Fontaine you guys at the bottom arguably had worse picks individually than the guys at the top...

I found out after picking that Bonzo keeper linked to Karel Pesek Kada, which could have been a starting player for me.
I imagined that was possible given the club. Talk of reaching a dead end though...

I am sorry for repeating myself again but I don't think anyone would mind if we reverse the order at round 6 rather than round 8 since it was anyways planned. Not exactly a rules change.
Technically people at the top have had 1 round of bad players as compared to two round for people at the bottom. Its only fair
Damn, I sound like a human rights violation activist. I will shut up now.

Reason for refusal: invalidity of the request purpose.

As an Independent Authority, I don't see a single "round of bad players".

Also, the regulator considered your request as a "rules change".

Yours faithfully,

E.

Fair enough.

FFS stop trying to change the rules or asking for incentives. They are what they are and you just don't change set rules halfway through.

There have always been ways out and several people deliberately chose differently because they are following the spirit of the draft you all signed up for.

Worst case you stay stuck like this for a few rounds until the predefined change in order takes place and those at the bottom play nice to reap the rewards.

The funny bit is it all started because @Raees would rather not open up Brazil even if he would get Didí in the process. Most would kill for that option now

Think what he's saying is that it'll be a bit shit if someone takes a sacrifice to link to a good pool and then rest of the players after getting the top ones push us back into obvlivion, which is something that's happened and is honestly downright cnutish. That's the entire reason of hesitation, if we'd know that once we take it to a good pool the rest will play fair then there won't be any issue.

I couldn't get Didi. He played in the season after Kopa left?

Yeah.

I mean I don't object that as that's what the draft is but then don't come crying to the same people you happily shafted to do something for the greater good.

If you picked a player that could push us into 10 rounds of 40s Eastern Europe then deal with it.

I'm in agreement with that, that would have just given us the regular GOAT pool, but there was also Santamaria etc for a decent middle ground. Fontaine was simply destined to lead us where we are so excuse us for not giving a shit of what pool they get.

If someone pushes you to oblivion it will bit him in the arse in the next turn.

I mean look at picks 5 after Jonquet - you guys (10-16) got Klenovec, Voorhoof, Baeten, Hendrix, Vermeyen or whatever. From 1-6 - Zeman, Binder, Planicka, Sindelar, Bican... All are useless for us, but the second group are at least more well known.

There's no guarantee you will get yourself a GOAT for your efforts neither you should expect one, all I'm saying is that if the pool is better for the rest it's better for you as well.

Then why are they now pleading others to go for the exit? feck them.

You can't really affect picks IMO each poster will go for whoever he wants and he doesn't need to explain himself. If the pool isn't better tho and the guy picking doesn't have an incentive to go for a player that would actually work for him he'll naturally go for a noname that doesn't open the pool, which again will lead to 10 picks of the same..

There's absolutely no guarantee that with a better pool it's us at the top that would get the GOAT's, it always hugely depends on the guy before you.

I'm enjoying the draft so far and don't urge anyone to pick someone for me. I'd naturally try to open up the pool or follow suit come my turn as I really don't want to put great research into pre war duds.

Oh did he? So it was more about moving away and avoiding the inevitable Didí pick. Fair enough.

No argument there.

Problem with Santamaria is the next guy could pick Didí. Fontaine put an end to that. Fair play, good play.

Tbh Fontaine is a quality pick in a position I needed whilst also keeping some greats for me coming back round. Rest of the picks that came were players who clearly won't be part of your starting XI but people too afraid of opening it back up. I do think there is a distinction to be made.. not like I picked a complete no mark he's one of the greatest French players of all time.

not just santamaria, we could have gone for the other great Spanish forward not named Gento and taken a ride to late 1940s/early 1950s Argentina and 1950s Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay and even Spain.

I have a brilliant idea. After Oaencha opens up the pool, lets have a new random picking order and leave it to fate.

I would have complete missed the Brazilian contingent and the links to Germany/UK greats. Being in the middle is tough as you keep missing the creme de le creme.. would have had no GOATs by time it came back round.

Santamaria has a lot of other options as well no.

Anyway, enough discussions and convincing others, just get on with it, pick whoever you seem fit.

P.S. if you care so much about having a better pool do it yourself even if it means those after you getting the rewards instead of asking it to be the other way round.

Agree, it's been set in stone since the draft began so let's just get on with it.

 what? Fontaine didn't lead us back to anything. It was 50s France after that.

I'm saying it was a smart and fair pick. Take a great player for my first team in a position I actually need, good fit with my players and keep the Brazilian contingent still in the game for me. Guys above me got the very best players time and time again.. so I needed to make sure I still have a chance to maybe access Pele etc.

You and Sjor.. or guys below you didn't really have anyone to pick who was Fontaine class so I don't see the need to not open it back up when the picks were clearly not going to be starting XI quality.

Which is what was being discussed. I've sacrificed a pick to at least get us moving in the right direction. If Oeancha decides that he doesn't want to open it back up then fair enough, I can't blame him for not wanting to gift a good pool to those with only 1 sheep pick compared to those with 2.

I disagree to pin it only on Fontaine. Ocwirk had a nice exit to Italy in the early 60's where you really couldn't get a GOAT in the next few picks.

After Hanappi there was only one way - into the rabbit hole.

Yeah no one should expect you to do so mate or you should care that some would moan about it.

My point is the chain can break within 1-2 picks. So even if we have a good round and say you and Oaencha pick Pele/Garrincha at the end of it I could be left with Edgar picking up Zito in exasperated Santos pool. It's all relative and that's the fun of the draft - you have absolutely no guarantee.
