Dodo

This bump reminded me of Adryan of Flamengo who we were supposedly clamouring for at one point. What became of that?

Dodo announces Roma move

Corinthians full-back Dodo, nicknamed ‘the new Roberto Carlos,’ has confirmed a transfer to Roma via Twitter.

“Tomorrow I will be in Italy. I’m going to Roma,” he wrote on his Twitter account.

“It is a club that proved it believes in me, despite my difficult moment after the injury. I will work hard on the field and I’m very happy with this decision.

“A new phase of my career begins now.”

The 20-year-old suffered a knee injury and only made his return to the pitch in May.

It’s believed a deal had been struck back in March, when the Giallorossi leapfrogged Manchester United in the race to sign Dodo.

United had tried to sign him three years ago, but FIFA blocked the transfer as he was under-age.

Is it now becoming standard practice in sporting journalism now to add a bit about how United were involved and weren't able to get them in every transfer story.

Anyone remember him? Starting for Roma today.

They apparently rate him well there now.

Fergie has mentioned files being left over from extensive scouting, and Dodo has been deputising for Balzaretti very impressively in my view. Great ability and drive, looks like a young Evra. With us looking for a left-back, and Moyes seemingly not fancying Fabio - it could be an option to re-visit this one.

Is he better than Fabio?

I'm not sure yet, if Fabio had the same game time in this Roma team I think he would excel aswell.

I think he may well be. He is faster I think, and his close dribbling is better. Not sure defensively though, as perhaps haven't seen enough.

My point exactly... If it's really the case he isn't playing Fabio, and it's solely down the fact he isn't left footed naturally, that is stupid IMO, but Dodo probably isn't a bad shout, I'd say his weaknesses are what Fabio's are in a WB position though, from a DEF pov they go missing, however both are natural attackers from a wing back spot.

To be honest, whoever has been signing players for Roma in the last few years has done a smashing job. They have had some great looking South American finds that have made them big money like Marquinhos, Lamela and Osvaldo, in addition to having picked up the likes of Strootman, Pjanic and Benatia who are attracting envy and will probably make them big money in the future (or bring them big trophies). Dodo looks another talent destined to go far from what I've seen.
