Dodo

We could definitely use a defender - especially a young up and comer when one considers the Rio situation.

He probably got the Ljajic treatment.

If we couldnt get a permit for Ljajic theres no chance of one for Dodo. He was good at the Sudamerica under 17s tournament though. But he was playing left back which is the one defensive position we havent had any trouble with this season.

Wasn't it mentioned that he's got a Portuguese and EU passport so the work permit wouldn't be an issue?

Manchester United drop interest in Corinthians star

Manchester United have decided to drop their interest in Corinthians teenager Dodo, according to reports in South America.

The agreement with ‘Timão’, which gives the English club first option on the player, expires next Monday, and they have yet to place a bid.

Today Corinthians president Andres Sanchez confirmed: "Manchester have priority until February 15, if they pay €9m there is nothing I can do."

The deadline has been dismissed by both Manchester United and Dodo’s agent Wagner Ribeiro, with both parties stressing that the clause runs for another year.

This latest news from São Paulo will worry Manchester United fans, many of whom believe a similar deal for Serbian teenager Adem Ljajic; collapsed because the financial burden put on the club by the current Glazer ownership.

The deal has also been stalled by the complexities of Dodo’s third party ownership, as his registration is owned by both Corinthians (70%) and local businessman (30%).

A composed, skilful centre-half, Dodo was included in Brazil’s squad for last year’s FIFA Under-17 World Championships, but sat out all three games in an unsuccessful group campaign.

He would face stiff competition for places at United, with 20-year-old Chris Smalling recently added to an impressive group of centre-halves, including the new England captain Rio Ferdinand, whom Dodo’s playing style has been likened to.

:nervous:

omg .
we have no monies .. thats why instead of paying 8m for a CB , we signed smalling for more (reportedly)

glazers out

Yeah, I think Smalling's deal KO's this one. At least he actually plays central defence and not left back, so we can see what kind of improvement he needs to make. As for the third party ownership, its a common thing in Brazil and South America. Its only 30%, and the 9 million euro fee is already agreed. So it shouldnt be as big a deal as it was with the last guy. At least, not unless we try and push the fee down again...

Clause runs for another year, lets just stand by and watch.

Third party ownership? Again?

feck that. Let some other club deal with the inevitable bullshit.

Pretty much all the talent in south america are third party ownership. We signed a deal with the largest one (traffic football management) to get first refusal on all the players when they turn 17 on their books if i'm right.

What can we expect from a young South American player. It's just a wonder that they're not all under third party ownership. Those Kia Joorabchians in the world make a fortune out of players, solely by catching them as youths and sponsoring them for a pittance.

Conniving gits

For some of them it can be a good thing though. The poor ones who wouldnt make it otherwise I mean. If a third party company "takes care of them" for a while, at least they can make a career out of football.

True that. They are looked after whilst they still trying to make it 'big'. From a poor blokes perspective that's not that bad, is it?

So sounds the deal is dead.

If only i could think of some kind of extinct bird like creature which which i could create a comparison.

Corinthians young defender Dodo has revealed his potential move to Manchester United isn’t as dead as his name might suggest.

United signed a ‘first option’ deal with the Brazilian club for the 17 year old centre back last year, but it was believed to have expired in February of this year.

However the youngster has revealed that the Premier League champions have first dibs on him until he turns 21 (in 2013);

“This is so complicated that sometimes I do not understand the law. There is a contract with Manchester United and also Corinthians, which runs through to when I turn 21 years of age. So things are still quite slow.”

Barcelona come calling but Man Utd still have Dodo advantage

Barcelona are being linked with Manchester United target Dodo.

The Corinthians defender revealed earlier this week that United have first option on him until he turns 21 in 2013. This came after claims that United's call on the left-sided defender had expired in February.

Real Madrid have been in contact with Corinthians to register their interest this season and Radio Cadena Ser says this morning that Barcelona are also keen.

Corinthians coach Mano Menezes has called up the teenager to his first team squad this season, with Dodo drawing comparisons with Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos.

Next Roberto Carlos? Wasn't that Marcelo?

Nope, it didn't seem like it...but I'm sure I read him saying we still had an option on him

It's almost as if he's become extinct. Not heard anything on this story in forever.

We supposedly have first option on him till this coming Jan according to one or two sources. But everywhere else went quiet on this one, so we may not even have that. Just taking a look he's 18 now and hasnt played that many matches yet for Corinthians.

"Dodoooooooooo"

You stand by your claim that "he'll be the most naturally gifted ball-playing CB in the world" after watching him play twice. On television (I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it wasn't a stream)

Unlike yourself who is standing by a claim in another thread based on the fact you admit know nothing of the subject you are talking about. ;)

Whether or not we still have anything to do with him, it turns out he still exists and he's playing on loan at Bahia in the brazilian top division

Won a penalty a few weeks ago with some nice skill

Video package

wow, that could have gone wrong !
and how is that not a red card ?

I was going to laugh at the ridiculous play acting until I saw the slow-mo side on...
