Manchester United target, Dodô, made part of Corinthians first team squad

July 22, 2009

With the sale of André Santos to Fernerbahçe and the injury to Sergio Escudero, Corinthians have included youngster, Dodô, in their squad to face Vitória on Thursday.

The 17-year-old left back is widely believed to have been bought by Manchester United. However, my sources at Traffic have told me that United have yet to make a decision on the Brazil Under 17 player. Dodô is not expected to start against Vitória as centreback Diego should fill in on the left. On Sunday, Corinthians take on archenemies Palmeiras in Presidente Prudente

So it doesn't look like we've signed him yet, contrary to various reports.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I think reports about the twins were not conclusive at first.

Probably wait till he's 18. Don't want to anger Blatter considering we are the only evil team in the world that buys talented young South Americans.

Brazilian players cannot move until they are 18. Have we signed a transfer agreement or was it just speculation previously?

If he does arrive in January as reported he will not be able to play until next season anyway since his birthday is in February and we wont be able to register him.

Dodo himself said he was signing something with us, but staying at Corinthians for a while till he comes over to us. Something like the Ljajic deal I suspect. There's been nothing to confirm it from the club, just the comments the player made. And possibly something from Corinthians too.

What does your friend from Brazil say about him?

The mystery continues...

Manchester United signing Dodo has turned pro at Corinthians.

The Brazil U17 international won't be joining United until next February, but has been promoted to Corinthians' reserve-team in the past week and could make his first team debut in the coming games.

Dodo said: "I do not know how things will happen, but I am motivated to do a good job. I have a better senior chance with the team in Brazil and it's a good opportunity to work next to great players.

"I am not now thinking about what can happen in February, because I still have many months ahead."

So we've signed him but he'll join in February? Or do we plan to sign him next year?

Sounds a lot like the Ljajic deal. Signed but will stay at the club until we take him after christmas. The difference being we officially confirmed that one...

I'm waiting for Muppets Climax to pay out from the transfer betting thread.

Yeah but the bookie has been busted by the authorities, guess the bets fell off with that.

So what's the deal with the extinct bird? Is there an agreement ala Ljajic or there woulda, shoulda, coulda kinda sign him next year?

Ferguson closing in on Brazilian trialist Dodo 25 November 2009 - 15:24 | Sport.co.uk

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is closing in on a move for left sided Brazilian defender Dodo according to reports in the youngster's homeland. The Daily Mail and Daily Mirror reported in May that the Red Devils were close to securing a £5 million move for the Corinthians wonderkid, however a deal was put on hold until Fergie could have a close look at the player.

Manchester United scouts have watched Dodo in action on several occasions, most recently against Fluminese and are ready to confirm the transfer. The talented defender also accepted an invitation to take up a trial at Manchester United's training complex Carrington, and has reportedly impressed United coaches with Fergie eager to seal a deal for the starlet who excelled at the recent South American Under 17 World Championship in the Summer.
Dodo was quoted in the summer before the move was first put on hold that he was looking forward to moving to England:
"Every player dreams to play in the national team and then be transferred to a European team. I am doing that. Next year I will join the first team of Manchester United. I am going to play next to the best players of the world.
"As there are already some Brazilians in England I suppose that I am going to get adapted easier.
"I have never played with the twins Fabio and Rafael, neither with Anderson, but it's good for me to have them near. Even Cristiano Ronaldo as he speaks in Portuguese."

If Dodo completes his transfer he will join Brazilian compratiots Rodrigo Possebon (Brazilian born Italian footballer), Fabio and Raphael Da Silva, and Anderson. However reports suggest Dodo will dodge any work permit issues as he holds a Portuguese passport.

"I started playing at Cruzeiro. I was 11 years old and played there for three years. Then I went to Corinthians where I am since 2007. I returned from being on duty with the under 17 national team and only had time to be with my parents for a few hours.
"I received the instructions to travel to England. I don't know how to speak in English but I am travelling with an interpreter.
"The way in which I play is the typical Brazilian style, with technique and ability. I also get identified with European style so that mixture can be something very good for me."

Dodo is reportedly expected to join up with Manchester United in the New Year with the figure of £5 million mooted as the agreed price for the starlet.

Err someone needs to break it to the lad that Ronnie's gone.

Just shows crap journalism yet again. Article full of old quotes.

That is a old article..

From the article: Posted on:25 November 2009 - 15:24, so it not that old...

Also, it says in the article that:

Dodo was quoted in the summer before the move was first put on hold that he was looking forward to moving to England...

So it is not claiming that the quotes are new. It is saying that, having scouted the lad more, United are now comfortable with finalizing the deal and bringing him in this January.

Of course, it is probably still crap.

lazy journalism - can't be fecked writing a story so, i know, lets redo one from the summer

For what it's worth, the story in the summer was that United had decided to wait until January to make a decision on completing his signing... So this story could be legit', albeit with some very old quotes thrown in.

i heard that the trial at utd did not go well enough for us to be willing to buy him.

Don't care to have him on the squad unless he's the next Lucio!

Three Brazilian defenders in our back line is pretty scary.. That's a ton of offense!!

Could Dodo be a similar story to Ljajic - we have paid a small amount to have an option on the guy and then we decide in january or during the summer ?
