Do we really need a new CB, if so who?

Bailley looks very promising and obviously Smalling is also a good defender. But Jones and Rojo as backup are very poor. We could do with another CB.

Martin Caceres. He is a free agent, will be a decent back-up, can play as a rb also. He won't mind sitting on the bench and won't create fuss either.

Who do you reckon is the best one out of Manolas and Koulibaly? Koulibaly is the one who is most comfortable with the ball, isn't it?

What with Bailly heading off to the African Nations cup in January we definitely will need someone else. Ideally a more experienced defender with a few years left in them.

We need an experienced leader at the back who can organise a defence.

Smalling and Bailly aren't that.

There aren't many that spring to mind sadly. Jose Fonte would be a good signing I feel although many will likely disagree. He's been superb leading the defence at Southampton. Him and Van Dijk are great.

There's a huge difference leading a mid table team and being able to command respect at a bigger club. Fonte is an average defender who is no better than Jones.

Bear in mind Jones has been out for a long time. By no means am I saying he is the answer to our CB issues but once he gets back to match fitness we'll see a much better player.

As it stands, Smalling, Bailly, Jones, Blind, TFM and Tuanzebe isn't a terrible defence. IMO, Jose will see Blind and the youngsters as backup, with Rojo kept as a backup LB and CB.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us sign another defender but I don't necessarily think it'll be a CB.

Bruce-Pallister
Stam-Johnsen
Ferdinand-Vidic

Central defences good enough to build a team from.

Smalling/Blind - Bailly/Jones is still along way away from this.

Released by Juve this summer but currently out injured with an achilles tendon rupture. Not expected to be fit till October. About the same height as Blind too.

Last I know, Fonte is EURO 2016 champion with the team never lose a game in 90 minutes time. I am sure our Jose knows something about this Jose, both being Portugese.

Pepe would be a fantastic addition despite being old and not a very nice player on the pitch. He's still a brilliant defender and would compliment Smalling's style.

We need someone who's tough, strong and who's not afraid to jump into tackles and be rough on the pitch. Not sure of any defenders like that.

Oh hell no. I don't mind a bit of a cnt like RvP, Ibra, Rooney, etc. but Pepe is a step to far. Absolutely vile player I don't want to see anywhere near United.

Isn't that Bailly?

Caceres is off to Roma

The achilles tendon rupture has been because he drove his Ferrari drunk during the night in Turin and crashed aganist a bus stop

We need what we currently don't have. A defender who has plenty of experience at a high level (so our entire defence don't break down in the last 10 minutes) and who can start attacks from deep (so we don't have to rely only on Blind).

Basically we need Bonucci.

I find this idea that has been popular on these forums the last few years that we need "experience" or "leadership" at CB lazy cliched thinking. I remember people were using this reasoning to say we need Vlaar and someone on this thread just mentioned Fonte. I doubt everyone knew that Vidic was the CB we need to propel us to being an elite or knew the impact Godin would have with Atletico. Smalling and Bailly are both coming off breakout seasons. They are both quick, strong, modern CBs. Smalling has been here 6 seasons so he can provide the "experience" in the partnership. I think it can work.

Yes we definitely need a CB. Our 'scouts' should be identifying an experienced no-nonsense bastard. We don't need a fancy name. Just someone with the right leadership skills who won't shit themselves. Our lot are prone to too many brainfarts, and you can't win the league with that kind of mentality.

Smalling and Bailly are good enough. However we need quality backup/competitors something the likes of Jones, Rojo and Mcnair cant provide. In my opinion we need a radical change of staff in defense rather then simply adding players. Something similar to these lines

RB: Fabinho, Valencia
LB: Shaw, Darmian, CBJ
CB: Smalling, Bailly, Blind, Manolas

Maybe not so much experience (though it definitely helps), but leadership quality is very much needed in this team. When your leader in defence is Chris Smalling, and the captain and vice captain of the team are Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick, then you know you've got a problem.

The most hyped ones seem to be:

- Manolas
- Koulibaly
- Mustafi

I know nothing about either of them, just that Mustafi didn't impress me for Germany, and Manolas is supposedly fast.

Doesn't seem to be any experienced ball playing CB available out there, sadly.

I think we definitely need an experienced CB to compliment Smalling. Bailly looks good but it's too soon to be having to rely on him all season, Jones and Rojo are average, and Blind can fill in there but isn't a CB. Not to mention Valencia as our RB leaves us very vulnerable defensively, too.

My favourite defender for the last couple of years has been Sokratis but, having just bought Mkhi from Dortmund, I highly doubt we'll be in for him. I think he'd be a perfect partner for Smalling.

We need another CB, Jones and Rojo are not reliable.

Who that is i dont know, but Mustafi is not better than Smalling or Bailly. A few years younger Godin would be perfect, but currently i dont see an available experienced CB out there, that could start for us.

Caf favourite Garay or Miranda on the cheap maybe, but i dont know how good they are currently.

Not sure about Garay on the cheap. He cost Zenit a bit back in 14\15 and has three years left on his contract, also Zenit usually hold their players hostage.

Shaw has been out for almost an entire year and looked one of our best players yesterday. Jones just isn't good enough, and a match fit Jones just isn't going to happen anyway. The second he starts to show any sort of promise he'll get injured again, rinse and repeat.

Also don't we seem to have slight problems with Argentinians settling at United. Apart from Tevez for a short time, we never seem to get the best out of them.

Sorry mate  ....Koulibaly

And yeah i would love Banucci/Bonucci ;)
:D Kalu-Billi = "Black Cat/Pussy" in Hindi, so i wrote it intentionally as I was feeling lazy to look for the correct spelling of his name. I think we have no chance of signing Bonucci, Bruno Martin Indi is attainable but he is shite.

I would have Pepe for a season or two, having a nutter arsehole in the defence would piss our opponents off in a good way. He has been in great form for the last season. He is a better defender than Ramos.
