Do we really need a new CB, if so who?

I'd take any of Marquinhos, Laporte, Manolas, Rudiger, Varane, Koulibaly and Stones. All generally strong and fast, and a few of them are decent ball players too.
Happy with either of those mentioned.

Bailly could turn out to be a great coupe, but I am not overly convinced with his rash tackling from what I've seen. Potential is there though, so I'd be happy for him to come in, that being said I'd like a more established defender come in to partner Smalling.

Rojo and Jones can leave for me

Where Blind really fell apart in his CB duties last season was in set piece defending. Apart from that -- which is like asking Mrs. Lincoln otherwise how she liked the play -- Blind was rather decent and for long stretches the equal of Smalling. Still, I'd go into the market for a CB as for about 25-30 of our league matches next season will be against opponents who will rely on set pieces and long balls to go at us. I wouldn't rule out Jones and Rojo finally coming good, but I wouldn't want to bank on it either.

Laporte for me. He'd be worth the wait until October to make his debut for us. But we're going to be stupid and let him to go City.

Every time ive seen Koulibaly he's looked class. If we're looking to bring in someone other than Bailly then i'd like us to go for him.

If we sign a another CB, someone like Bonnuci, Mustafi, Koulibaly or Manolas would be good. However, I think Bailly will play next to Smalling and we would go for a RB instead.

I'd rather we added an experienced CB and played Bailly at RB for now, he's raw and Smalling isn't ready to lead him IMO.

We need one more and i think Mourinho feels the same.

Mustafi or Koulibaly would be great.

I think we need an expierenced CB, since I have a feeling Baily will end up at RB. Not sure who it will be though. Everybody wants one and if you have one you want to keep them.

It will depend on whether we will ship both Rojo and Jones. If we ship both of them out we'll probably sign a new CB unless the likes of Fosu-Mensah/Tuanzebe/Williams impress Mourinho so much on pre-season that he decided they are ready to challenge our senior CBs.If we keep one of them we might not need a new CB but nothing wrong if we sign one. What if we keep both of them?Nah we won't.

How was Inigo Martinez last season? Was good a couple of years ago. Didn't watch Sociedad's matches last year

A quality, experienced CB would turn us from Top 4 to title contenders. Not convinced by any of our options there right now - never seen Bailly play, not a big fan of Smalling really, and Blind isn't a CB, never mind Jones and Rojo.

The question regarding signing another CB will be answered when Mou tells us where he intends to play Bailly or when we decide to offload Rojo and Jones.

Haven't we had enough of players playing out of positions because the manager thought they were better there. CB area is very well covered. We have OK back ups as well (Phil and Blind). We have slightly bigger issues just ahead. i-e midfield.
RB is an area which probably needs a review but I still think Darmian needs some time to adjust in this league and Jose is the right person to guide him through.

Would anybody be against signing Glik the polish CB.

He's impressed me these euros he seems like a typical Old fashioned CB... strong, good pace and reading/understanding of the game. I noticed he rarely was beat 1 on 1 in the air or on the ground.

he's only 28 but has fairly good experience so still has some good years left and he wouldn't cost stupid money.

I'm not sure signing another squad player is what we need. Either we sign a starting CB or clear out some of the shit we have. Don't forget we do have a couple of youngsters waiting to break through as well. So if we are signing it should be like a Varane.

I think we need a top CB who is skilled with the ball and with a great pass. A new Rio, in the vein of Hummels/Ramos/Pique. Of course, a good defender first, but nothing's better than a ball-playing defender (yes, I know, FM-ism).

Glik would be a starter though not a squad player. He's definately good enough based on the euros. I can't see us getting Varane tbh but yeah I'd love him to join

With Smalling and Bailley he's not the type of defender we need.

My dislike for that type of things is fierce, fullbacks aren't sub-players, you don't just chuck someone there because his body is warm. If you need a fullback, you bring a fullback.

Instead of buying its better we promote Williams or Axel since we already have Chris, Bailley, Jones and possibly Blind/McNair although I would rather Blind plays DM because of his positional sense and technical ability if we cant find a proper heir to Carrick.

Completely agree. I think that Smalling/Blind are good but not great, Jones and Rojo don't count and no idea about Bailly.

So yep, hoping that we go for an another player in that part of the pitch.

Yes, Stones, but also offload Jones and Rojo

I would be happy going into the season with for CB Smalling, Stones, Bailly, Blind with back ups such as Williams, Axel even Forsu mensah

RB, Darmian, Valencia, Bailly, Varela
LB Shaw, CBJ, Blind

Thought he was going to Monaco?

Indeed. Bailly will get the Zouma treatment this season imo. He might fill in at RB once or twice, but only when the tactics calls for it. He'll be used as a CB, like Jose said.

Muppet signing = Bonnucci
More likely - Manolas

Think Utd do need an experienced CB

Jones - 100% needs to go, way to injury prone.
Rojo - not 100% sure, not shown enough so far but under Mourinho? who knows.

Blind - The perfect back up
Smalling - A solid CB - not a leader though.
Bailly - don't know much about him, can play rb & cb? Excellent!

So 1 more CB, needs to be a leader.

That's like finding a new Messi.

CB isn't well covered though, I don't see Jose using Blind as a CB and Jones is never fit. Bailly has played in both fullback roles before and it would hardly be the first player to be capable of doing so, buying another CB doesn't prohibit us from buying a CM.

Bailly has played both RB and LB so it's not a case of chucking in a warm body, it's about using the versatility of a raw player.

4 times, he played there 4 times because of injuries. It's like thinking about Carrick as a potential CB.

Edit: He played twice in each fullback positions.

United desperately need an experienced defense leader to lead and organize the defense. This is what is lacking since Rio and Vidic left. Smalling is not the one for this task, nor is Blind (he may not even play this position anyway). I do not know about Bailly but it seems that he is just too raw to lead. Rather, he also needs leading.

Bonucci is my #1 choice, but it is just too unpractical. If, United managed to ply Kompany from the blue side, I will be happy.
