Divock Origi and Lazar Markovic

Different times. Basically back in the old days when we bought Ronaldo.

Markovic had a sell clause of 25m Euros, that's why he was sold at that amount.

I've to say it's a bit low considering the clauses the portuguese clubs usually set but maybe it was the condition on which Markovic signed for Benfica.

Fair enough, guess we will see how much he is worth. Hopefully a good signing for us.

I'm unhappy with the Markovic signing. Definitely worried that Rodgers will get the best out of his impressive raw talent. He's probably already a top 10 ball-carrier in Europe. The rest of his game is basically subpar right now, from what I've seen, but he's 20.

Is our Phil on that list?

Completely unphased by both of these signings (if Origi happens).

On the other hand, this is yet another reason for teams to defend deep against Liverpool. Not sure Sterling or Markovic have the variety or delivery to hurt teams consistently if they sit back.

Signing Bony makes more sense, since the pace of Sterling, Sturridge and Markovic can force teams not to risk a high line, and then Bony is the aerial threat they can use as a plan B. Same thing for Lambert.

I think that's where Lallana and Coutinho come in.

Coutinho obviously has 'expert long range goal-getter' as part of his career plan. He does exceptionally well getting into good positions for it. If he can start hitting the target, he'll be amazing for us this season.

Hm, strange, I think he could be good for you, sure he has brain farts sometimes but all in all he's a very good defender.

25m would be an absolute rip off. He's a decent defender with one good season in the PL under his belt, not at a top club. 25 million for that? Would be ridiculous. He's 15m at absolute tops.

Well with prices these days its not that crazy. I mean he's not worth 25 mil. but many players aren't worth the amounts they're selled for.

It would mean they would have spent well over 50 million on Southampton players. Which would be funny.

Depends, I see Lallana & Lambert as proven players in our league, sometimes it's a safer bet recruiting closer to home. In addition Southampton do play good attractive football, therefore the transition to the way we played shouldn't be as difficult.

I agree about Lovren though that seems very steep, not really seeing us linked with any alternatives at the moment.

Lambert is a good player who I like a lot. He holds the ball up extremely well. He's an excellent Plan B I guess, but he's far more refined than the likes of Carroll and can actually play a bit. Decent signing, if you sign another striker that can truly attempt to replace the void of Suarez.

Don't rate Lallana too highly though. He's good technically but there's a bazillion Spanish players as good or better. £25 million for a player with one good season in the PL under his belt is a bit silly. He was ineffective for England both in the warm up games and when he came on, albeit he was often stuck out wide or not used properly by Uncle Woy. Still questions marks over whether he will be able to do it at a big club. Where exactly will he play for Liverpool? Out wide or in the middle?

Lovren wouldn't be good value at 25m. Yes, prices are ridiculous at the moment but that would be pretty insane. He was good for Southampton last season but tailed off towards the end and to be honest, I don't like his attitude if he's demanding a transfer after one season. Players are leaving but Southampton have made replacements, he obviously thinks a bit too much of himself. He should stay for another season and if he can replicate that form, then we can start talking really big fees. He's only 25 - its not like he needs to rush in to a big move right now. Right now, that kind of money is only 10m short of a Benatia who is an altogether vastly superior player. I'm not even sure if he's better than Sakho, Agger or Skrtel.

Have Spurs signed anyone?

Nope. Linked strongly with Ben Davies, who I think we'll get and would be a good signing.

Also seen some rumors about Bony and apparently we're interested in Origi and Remy too. Basically anyone Liverpool target. Will probably be a quiet window, can see us signing a striker, but not a big name one, Davies and a left-winger on the cheap. No real big money acquisitions.

Hopefully Poch can get Lamela going. Have renewed faith in him now, he's so incredibly vital to our coming season its unreal. If we have to rely on Lennon on the right again we won't get anywhere near even Europa league.

Southampton I believe want £25m, much less than we have offered. Kind of gone quiet since.
You've offered them more money but they turned it down because they want jess?

I agree on Lovren I don't see him much better than what we have.

I thought Lallana would play on the left, sure he operated there quite a lot for Southampton in front of Shaw, and given Rodgers has been after a left sided player I assumed that's where he will be. However, Markovic has said that's his preferred position too, I suppose both are flexible which is what the manager has been looking for.
I think he can play in a few positions. I get what you mean about the price - actually allegedly it was up to £25m with add on's, complex because Bournemouth got some of the fee. But yes, he has risen from nowhere really, I actually thought he was very good last year so here's hoping he is for us too.

I guess we'll see. Rate Brendan as a manager and I'm sure he has some sort of plan.

All I know about Markovic is that he put in an absolutely sublime performance against us in the Europa league. Looked a real player so if that's anything to go by you have a great player on your hands.

Is he really a good ball-carrier though? I saw some stats that he had a horribly low dribble success rate compared to even players like Sterling and Coutinho?

As a Serbian I might not be objective, but I must say, for many years I haven't actually seen a Serbian player that might live up to expectations and become a top class footballer.. that was until Marković popped up. I have to say, I am glad for him, but I really wish United went for him, I think he could fit in with LvG and be a great addition, especially at wide right and left attacking position.

Keep in mind thou, he only had one year of experience in Portuguese football, after pathetic match-fixed Serbian league, so he is still very raw, and needs to work hard.

The voices coming out from Markovic's previous camps are very similar to Suarez and Ajax when we signed him. Ajax fans were citing him the best player ever to put on the Ajax shirt, I couldn't believe they would say such a thing. This was at a time he had bitten off a teammate's ear and was hardly setting the world alight.

Three years on and I now understand their bold statement. :( Let's hope Markovic is of the same ilk. Would be nice.

Origi is obviously a big time talent, he ought to be going to Dortmund imo. He's very lewandowskiesque and that's the forward that klopp loved so much he didn't even allow him to leave for a fee. Plus there's an opportunity in that spot at the club. If klopp deems him a bigger project than immobile he'd give him every chance to make it. Klopp's record of developing players is atm second to none.

He scored 49 goals in all competitions in a single season for them, if that isn't setting the world alight, then what is?

That's probably due to his ability in tight spaces rather than his ball carrying. The other poster is right about that, he beats men with the ball at pace in a way very few players can.

Saw Liverpool at Soldier field yesterday. My brother is a big 'Pool fan, so went with him. They are really struggling to offer any penetration up front right now. Markovic looked ok in flashes. He only played 45 mins.

It's only pre-season though and for most of the players returning from the World Cup it was their first outing, and Lallana hasn't played at all yet.

Immobile was Serie A's top scorer last season, scoring more goals than Origi has in his entire career. I know Origi's still a youngster but there's absolutely no way Klopp would have considered buying him as anything more than a back-up.

Yes we will have to wait and see, I recorded the game to watch tonight. Was it a good atmosphere?

It was ok. There was one end with quite a few LFC fans in it, who did sing through much of the match. Total attendance was 36,000. Solider field is 65,000, so there were quite a lot of empty seats.

Yes and if he'd outplayed immobile then klopp would've had him doing more than just being a back up. He's a bigger talent than him IMO and there's every chance that he'd do that. At the same age immobile was nothing more than what origi is.

It's all purely hypothetical though. Are you trying to say that Klopp wants Origi?
