Dippers to top the league by New Year?

It's not the points that bother me, it's the style of play. We have better players in most departments than them. Klopp would have had them purring along like a Rolls Royce engine. We are getting points but sometimes it is just sheer good fortune. An OG against Spurs, an OG against Watford. Those games could easily have been 4 dropped points.

It works both ways, we could've easily taken six points from City & Newcastle - it's a result of the football we play.

Agree on the points, our position in the table means playstyle is the only justifable criticism that people have.

Our play style make the fine margins in games too significant either way. It's always the odd goal/odd chance/referee decision.

We shouldn't be in a state where after 18 months they are the norm.

SCENARIO: Ibe gets the ball out of his feet and tries to whip in a cross from the front. Taylor jumps to block the cross and the ball hits his arm and defects away for a corner.

GALLAGHER'S VIEW: Correct decision

GALLAGHER SAYS: "I can't see how you can't give it. His arm is so far out and he's jumped up to the ball."

you missed the point I was making. Liverpool was flat. Swansea absorbed Liverpool's style of playing. They lost to a debatable penalty.

players not in the starting lineup today: Coutinho, Firmino, Henderson, Benteke, Sakho, Clyne, Milner, Ings and Ibe.

Then why did you use it in the first place ? We all know the answer to that.
It was in reply to a statement saying on current form you'd overtake us. Which isn't true without including Europa league and Carling cup matches.

I agree we were flat. However Swansea had no shots on target, no saves for the keeper to make and in fact did SFA bar keep 10 men behind the ball for 95% of the game. The penalty wasn't debatable (except to opposing fans), actual referees are solid on that.

Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in England. This is why they're either in crisis or going for the league. People can't take the middle ground with Liverpool even though it's usually the right approach. Let's not forget what players they have. If we're so crap that this Liverpool team are able to overtake us, we have bigger problems than Klopp.

We are, that's why we are above them in the league and that they've only lost ground on us since he's arrived, is that not correct?

Normally you'd expect the better team with the better fixtures to capitalize on their rival's disarray by more than a single point though.

They came for a point. simple. and when there is a debate it is debateble.

EDIT. Having seen it, I probabaly would have agreed with the ref. ;)

He's done well to get what he's gotten out of the players he currently has, City are still easily the best squad in the league IMO though and all of the supposed contenders have been erratic, I definitely think he'll get them top 4 and then next season they'll be legit challengers once he gets a summer transfer window under his belt. Regardless of the exact outcome I imagine Liverpool fans will be well entertained over the next 18 months.

Mirrors my thoughts exactly. Though I can always dream of more ....

Can see them definitely going into some crazy run, though not sure that they can win the title despite having the best manager in the league (well, Mourinho is probably the best but at the moment he is on self-destruct mode).

It is possible for them to leapfrog the top 5 teams in the table by the end of this month though. No team is that strong.

I already placed a bet on these feckers to win the league as I'm certain it's going to happen :(

They've already played their toughest away games and will coast to the league title, might as well say congratulations to all of their fans now

Normally you'd expect a team to play above themselves when a new manager comes in which they've done and they still find themselves losing ground on this bang average United side.

If they can keep Sturridge fit and Coutinho in form they'll finish above us.

Sturridge won't stay fit though thankfully. They are a different prospect when he's available. He just always seems to score.

dont think the southampton game is anything to go by. steklenburg was terrible in goal and every shot at goal seemed like it would slip past the keeper.
their form off late is good but they dont have the players to win the league or even make the top 4 this season.

Probably not quite top, but anyone writing them off as no threat to us and our top 4 spot needs to re-evaluate.

Yeah, given the state of the league it wouldn't be wise to write them off. But it goes both ways. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up challenging, nor would I be surprised if they end up right where they are at the moment, i.e. around 6th-7th. And, yes, they could end up sneaking past us to get 4th too.

They're in honeymoon mode at the moment. I don't think anyone expected Klopp to have a truly miserable start - the effect we've seen so far has been quite predictable. But nothing seems to stay predictable in this league.

It's just a few games, let's not forget last season at some point, it looked like everything had clicked with Van Gaal's fauxlosophy too, then the rest of the season happened. At least wait for an extended period before declaring him Liverpool's saviour.

They certainly look more capable than us at the moment.
As a few have said on here, let's see after a few more games.
It would be almost funny to see Gerrard's face if they actually went on to win it the year after he left. Almost.

Amazing how an upbeat coach can inspire a bit if confidence eh?

he's a positive attacking manager who lives for the game. young and vibrant and is a winner. look at the team he put out and they killed soton.

Chelsea were meant to win it according to this place, then City now Liverpool and we're not even at the half way point

It's one thing getting a few results with no pressure after where Rodgers left them. Lets see how they cope when they are expected to win games.

Why is there a thread for this? They've hit a purple patch, and Klopp's ideas are obviously bearing some fruit, but they certainly aren't world-beaters because of it. Everything came off for them against Southampton, and Steklenburg had a shocker for two of the first three goals. Moreno and Origi both scored with unlikely efforts.

I don't read much into that.

It is probably because of their previous results against City and Chelsea. They do seem to be getting things right at the moment.

They have similar problems to us at home; struggle to break down teams who sit behind the ball. They'll face the same problem away from home soon if they continue putting six past teams as other teams will learn and start playing defensive.
