Diogo Dalot | Done Deal | Speaks better English than Valencia

He reminds of Azpilicueta so much in his playing style! Its uncanny.

Anyone think this is all to do with Ribalta? It's a very Juve signing.

Are you reading the posts you're replying to anymore?

Valencia being left as first choice is precisely the problem because it is, or should be, blatantly clear to anyone who has watched United this season that he's absolutely nowhere near the required standard any more, particularly going forward.

Which, as I said before you engaged in an exercise in making me rewrite the same post four times, does not bode well for our ability to compete with rivals who don't have glaring issues in the same position.

I really can't believe anyone has watched a season where Man City have got 100 points, seen the contribution from Walker – and not to mention that we're so far back that they managed to get away with a similar player at LB being injured all season who will come in and give them the same on the otherwise next season – and thought 'ah yeah, we're getting something comparable from Valencia'.

There's such an obvious gulf in quality between our options at full back and our rivals that I'm staggered that any one can be so blasé about us not upgrading, and simultaneously expect us to compete next season as well.

Which is to say nothing about Dalot as a signing, his potential, or his potential success as a United player, it's just absolutely staggeringly unfair on a kid who is 19 years old and played 8 senior games, to drop him in to a position where we clearly need improvement ASAP and expect him to single handily fix it. And besides, the same kids that are salivating over signing him now are some of the prime culprits for writing off young players within a few months because they're not the finished article; hyping up the Dalot signing as some sort of immediate fix to the RB problem, or not addressing the problem there and forcing him to become a fix, just increases the likelihood we'll see our fanbase turn on him before the end of the season.

And fine, it's not about Dalot, but we can't be considered to be in a good position for next season if a 19 year old kid who's barely played senior football is the only attempt to sort out that RB posistion.

I already told you why I disagreed with your premise, for me Valencia needs to go yes, but IMO our problems at fullback are worst on the left side, the issues with the right side of our attack are not solely due to the FB position, but due to also not having a right sided attacker, which has been the problem for years.

Yes Valencia needs upgrading, but actually Young does first, and if Jose has no trust in Shaw then LB has to be the priority. If we can sign a RB who can also start great, but we need to fix the issue infront of the RB first.

As for Dalot, he seems like a highly rated talent, so I am happy with that signing tbh.

So far he has been labeled as new:
Varela
Bebe
Darmian.

Keep 'em coming.

One poster even said "we finally replaced Irwin" so it's really working both ways.

I think he deserves a shot, maybe Mou could bring out the best out of him. Who knows, he could be our next first choice RB soon...

Sandro at LB, Young at RB (with a new RW)

Valenica and Dalot as back-ups.

And again, what are you reading that lead you to write that post, where have I said that RB is the only issue, or the only problem with our right flank?

I quite simply haven't. Creating a list of perceived 'priorities' in which we must deal with squad issues strikes me as disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing at this point.

No I am disagreeing with the fact that it is some sort of crisis if we have Valencia at RB with Dalot as competition, if we manage to fix the other issues like LB and a good player to play down the right flank.

Everyone talking about valencia like he has been dogshite for us. He has been playing through injury FFS.

Azpilicueta isn't quick and not very attacking. All the reports are that this guy is.

I think this transfer has a bit to do with -

1.Dalot being Portuguese and maybe Jose's contacts in Portugal told him about this kid, also maybe we have been scouting him for a long time as a potential RB buy.
Castles in his article yesterday said Monaco could be asking for more than 50 million for Sidibe.

2.Juve's stand on Alex Sandro : Juve now seem a bit reluctant to let Sandro go and maybe asking for a higher price than before.
I've felt that Jose wants to replace LB for sure and is OK with RB as he trusts Valencia, even though we ourselves don't.
And i feel Sandro is the first choice LB as we have been linked with him for about a year now.
This transfer could mean Jose is not very convinced with the established RB options out there and therefore is reluctant to pay the 50 million price tag on most of them but at the same time is fixated on Sandro.

The availability of Bale could also have played a part in this transfer.

If he's any good, this would be ideal. He would be an understudy to Valencia for 2-3 years until he's ready. And we're getting him for 17m.
Christ hope not for 2-3 years. Needs to bed in next season to fully be our No 1 RB for the season after. Valencia not good enough last season and will get progressively worse.

In my opinion, Young was better than Valencia this last season. Nevertheless, in my ideal world, I would change both of them fast.

Youngs job was made easier by the fact that we have attackers in the left hand side. Sanchez, Pogba and Martial all like attacking from the left whilst Mata and Lingard go awol on the right

How does him playing through an injury mean he hasn’t been shit at fullback? Because he has. For a long time.

2 or 3 more years of Valencia? Please no. If I was a religious person I’d be praying nightly that we are going to bring in song with this guy another RB who is ready to go.

Actually this kid can provide cover at both LB and RB, I'm liking this signing more. Hopefully he can challenge Valencia for his position by the end of the season

If the idea is to make this signing with the intention of gradually phasing Valencia out then I can definitely get on board with it. I understand some will want an instant replacement but I think this makes sense given there's a very real chance of us signing a new left back and (another) CB. Replacing 3 of our existing back 4 in one summer could be reckless so this is a good compromise.

The sounds are encouraging and I prefer the idea of making a signing like this than throwing £50m at someone like Sidibe. That is predicated on him actually receiving some minutes, though. If we sign him and he ends up starting 2 or 3 league games next season that would be a waste, so it relies on Mourinho actually making some form of commitment to a young player.

You obviously haven’t read the McTominay performances thread. It’s full of idiots who are far from patient.
No I haven't. I don't think player performance threads are an accurate representation of United fans. They're reactionary and full of nonsense a lot of the time.

 Only a minority of posters.

Take a look at the Rashford or McTominay thread.
Player performance threads are reactionary and rubbish a lot of the time.

The players receive support from Old Trafford and away fans.

I might be one of few but I like signings like this because there is always a chance the kid might develop into top class, and if not the fee is not high enough for us to say we made a huge loss. What we need is guys who are willing to put a shift in day in day out, people who take pride in putting on our shirt, I want people who are only in it for the wages to stay the feck away from this club.

So that guy has definitely started working for us? There was a big commotion when it was being announced, but I never actually saw any confirmation that he was hired.

Depends on your definition of crisis though doesn't it? If your expectations are we compete for the league next season, which most people seem to think they are, then we simply can't afford the lack of contribution we got from Valencia this year at RB.

If your expectations are simply for us to get into the Top 4 again then it's probably fine, but expectations that low may put you in a minority of one.

And at any rate, I feel given how far off the standard Lindelof is, and how much earlier in his development Dalot is, I think expectations that Dalot will come in and immediately be good enough to provide cover may be a little optimistic, even if he has the potential that people are saying.

Again I have already said I disagree with that, so stop replying with the same rubbish

Right, but you being wrong about how important full backs are in the modern game doesn't change the fact that it's an obvious area where we are significantly weaker than our rivals.

Besides, we're going up against a team that have excellent players in most positions, got 100 points last season, and are going to improve in the summer. Even if you think RB is an unimportant position in the grand scheme of things, which you'd be wrong to do but whatever, it still doesn't bode well for our chances to compete with City going into the season with a player who the best we can seemingly hope for is 'ah we can probably get away with him there'. Standards need to be higher than that.

I don't have any objection to see Young players like this come in here. I am sure some scouts have watched him and spotted something, which is what they are hired to do. Give him a chance before we criticise.

Wait, so for posters here who want a first choice RB, on top of what is most likely new first choices in LB and CB, we will have a brand new back 4 next season bar 1 of the CBs? That's not going to work in terms of stability, understanding and chemistry I feel.

I'm not wrong since I already said they are important. Again our rival won the league with Delph playing LB but you want to ignore that?
We can compete IF we get someone like Sandro at LB and a very good RW is my point. I won't make it again, I know your point and disagree end of.

Don't use logic dude.

This! Especially considering that the pre season is going to be short as many of our potential buys would be sway after their WC duty.
