Poor again, not sure if he’s got it in him to be a wingback, defensively isn’t sound and doesn’t offer much in the attacking third. Performed consistently well last season, this one he’s the polar opposite.

Strange game. Gave the winger a bit too much space for the first 15 minutes or so, but was good on the ball for the first half (the rest of the defence would basically just pass it sideways until it got to Dalot and he'd be the one who'd play it forward). Then in the second half he it felt like he utterly disappeared from the match and barely got involved.

Yeah same. Was the only player willing to play it out the back in the first half and then went missing second with some poor passing.

He's not left footed so we should stop playing him there. He'll be a much better RCB or RWB.

He can't play on the left. End of discussion. Emergency option only, otherwise the bench as mazraoui out performing at the moment

Played one really nice ball into the channel in the first half and that's about it. Forgot he was playing in the second half. Made good runs but he's always useless once he gets into the box so not much point. Think the only spot I'd play him in this system is RWB

Think he's more suited to the RWB and can own this side. LWB, I don't know what we do there. Can just play Malacia there, can't be worse.

Thought he was awful, he seemed to be incredibly wasteful with many passes especially second half. We cannot continue to rely on him on the left, think he has been woeful over there for most of the season.

dont know what game a few watchd but he was horrific today, genuinely wouldnt ever play him on the left ever again. cant build up from the back with him, no over lapping runs.. offers nothing

The worst thing is how uncomfortable he looks receiving the ball in our own half. He looked absolutely terrified in the first half
Strange how different people see things differently. In the first half I felt he was the only one at the back who looked comfortable receiving the ball and either taking on his man or spinning him and playing the ball forward. Didn't work every time, but most of the time it did. He was basically the outball from the defence as the others would just pass it sideways.

Second half was more like you describe.

I think he's been poor all season and should be displaced once Licha and Shaw are both fully fit.

That’s true. We need to try someone else at LWB next game, Dalot was inadequate to requirements

Benefit of the doubt, he really isn't a LWB. He was very poor, but new position new formation etc.

I’ve said it before, he’s not that good and will look below average once we stop playing clowns like Lindelof and Maguire.

Can’t believe people were saying he’s one of the best RB in the game last year

Yeah he did ok first half. Played one sublime pass to Garnacho too. But it all got more and more predictable. Every time he got the ball he tried one of the same three things. Once his opposite number worked him out it was game over.

To me, the issue wasn’t all his fault. Him and Maz were the only players actually attempting to progress the ball out of defence. Which is why we were so easily worked out and shut down after the first few minutes.

I geninuely think he's a very good footballer... unfortunately he's just monumentally thick.

I just don't think he's ever been that great. He tries hard often, but he's never truly convinced me. He's just missing something to take him to the level required.

I've seen quite a few people say things like that, but he had the most complicated set of instructions in the squad last season under ETH. Everyone else largely stuck to the basics of their position, while Dalot was sometimes sitting back in his position, sometimes moving inside to join the midfield, sometimes helping the winger overload the wide areas, and doing all that while also being the one we relied on to use his speed to dig us out of trouble quite often when the opposition got through our relatively slow backline. He was having to make a hell of lot of decisions on the fly about exactly which he should be doing at what moments. And he was our best player over the course of that season (admittedly that was quite a low bar).

This season has obviously been a huge drop-off, but it's actually happened as his role has been simplified a bit as he hasn't been moving into midfield as much. Instead he became the surprise target of that long ball from the back as he broke into the final third.

I hope it's just that he's somewhat fatigued (either physically or mentally) and needs a bit of a break, then after a month or so he can get back into the form he showed last season. He was also quite impressive in the first half of 22/23, so it's not like last season was a one-off. On the other hand, maybe they were a couple of good periods but what we're seeing now will end up being his more normal level.

There are moments where he'll look quality progressing the ball forward but he can be so brain-dead at times.

It's his passing, concentration and decision making that really lets him down sometimes. Pretty much all the qualities you need him to have.

the momentum shifted back to 50-50 when he came on, needs to step up or loose his place in the team

I struggle to see where he'll fit in in Amorim's 343. Unlike Shaw and Mazraoui I don't see him playing as a wide centreback. Ruben seems to prefer wingers as his wingbacks as well and I don't see Dalot adapting well to playing LWB long term.

He's awful on the left which means LWB is going to be a seriously problematic position for us until we find someone that can play there. Plays far too many dangerous passes infield to players that aren't great at making space for themselves admittedly. Needs to be on the right but Amad is looking the part there

4 good thing 6 terrible things! That is not a good ratio for a footballer so for me his time is up and we need to upgrade. In Maz you can see very quickly a quality defender that doesn't have to cost the earth.
