He should really need a loan for this season. He has less experience than Tuanzebe and TFM and is younger and less physically gifted. If he doesn't (have one, not need one), it's simply because he is a signing, that's the only reason Lindelof makes his mistakes (and there are many) at Utd and Tuanzebe his at Vanilla.

He didn't put a foot on the pitch and people are talking about loaning him already. Like, seriously ?

Played 90 minutes today.

Any insight from those who watched the match on his performance ? Is he ready for first team football ?

Looked a bit lightweight at times but did have a couple of chances on goal. Difficult to gauge when he is playing second string opposition. I'd missed the goal we conceded so didn't see his involvement in that. I'd probably try him against Derby.

Hard to judge from highlights in a reserve game, but I think over-time based on what I've seen, he should offer more going forward than Valencia has last 2/3 seasons. Looks like he has a bit of ability on the ball (some good touches and generally assured passing), can cross a bit and likes to get forward. Plays with an urgency Valencia doesn't have and isn't shy to take on a player.

Obviously defensively there are going to be bigger question marks as he won't have been tested in these games and needs to prove it in the top-flight, but I do think there's potential there. Give him 12-18 months to progress and develop though, he's only 19 so no rush and I think some are a bit optimistic expecting him to replace Valencia as 1st choice anytime soon.

Eh? Where he tried going past someone but got nowhere and then had his cross blocked?

What's in the locker is more important right? 2/8 times he is brought down in the box or just about it. One can dream

He got some serious pace to burn. One small hiccup from the opposition and off he goes.

His physical abilities looks very promising, already look like an adult in a kids game.

I've really liked his passing ability in his first game and the highlights of this one. Doesn't panic and is able to to consistently play nice balls to players in good positions. Nothing amazing, but just good solid passes that help us get/stay on the front foot. Same thing Shaw has really impressed me with since the start of the season. A noticeable improvement on Valencia and Young (although obviously Dalot is doing it at a much lower level so we don't know if he can step up).

Looks very comfortable on the ball, LOVES going forward which is a huge thing a modern fullback needs. You can see Darmian/Valencia are a bit hesitant these days, but Dalot's first move is pass then gallop forward.

He looks a good dribbler but also picks the right pass instead of over running it. Probably needs a few more games to get full fitness but I like what I see, you can see he has "it".

Would be nice to see him tested against a pacey winger and see how he handles it as everybody looks composed at u23 level.

Its great that Dalot, and all those players, are playing on the OT pitch.Hopefully when some of these young players do get a chance they'll feel slightly less tense when they walkout onto the home pitch.
Also,Dalot and Chong

I have to say I'm more excited by Ethan Laird than Dalot! I hope his signing doesn't block a route through for our local lad!

What height is he? 6-1/6-2? Looks rather tall for a full back, a bit like Meunier, but impressively mobile and explosive in his movement. Any late growth spurts and he might just end up as too tall for the position.

Facchetti, one of the best fullbacks in the history of the game, was 1,91 meters tall. I think he'll be alright.

Looks like a good, confident, forward thinking player. Crossing is a bit shit though, and he should work hard on that part.

Ethan is a proper prospect and I see him playing CB if he keeps growing. Grown again since last season....

This is weird. I can quite understand being too short to be a CB, but why can't you be a FB if you're too tall? Too easy to nutmeg?

Be a bit of a waste because he's been a big asset in attack for us, winning the ball and driving it down the line is one of Laird's best aspects.

Tbh I still don’t know what was wrong with Varela.

Anyway, Dalot basically has a season to get himself ready to be regular starter for us, which should be enough.

One on one isolated against a tricky dribbler can be tough for a tall defender, balance, center of gravity, agility and quickness on the turn.

Perhaps shows how the game has changed though. 20 years ago wingers were generally slighter, more dribbler orientated. Now guys who would have been strikers back then are playing from wide and type of defenders to counter them have changed?

Meunier is a great example of it not being a problem, one of the best in the game, 6'3. Can't imagine much taller than that being best suited to playing FB though.

I was being slightly tongue in cheek, but his control and the way he strokes the ball around effortlessly looks very refined. I'm looking forward to seeing him play in the first team, hopefully this week.

But I'm serious.

Remember how Januzaj/Morrison used to take a piss out of the u23, and the likes of james wilson outscoring everyone.

I'll wait till he plays for the first team cause U23's is no indication. Works both ways cause I've seen first team players finding their fitness playing there that looked terrible too....
