I know he's young and he'll hopefully improve, but right now, he's not very good.

Feck knows what he was doing for the second goal... didn't go to the man, didnt cut out the pass... just stood there doing nothing.
 
The lad can’t defend yet. Not at this level. He can at best be a RWB in a 3-5-2 if we decide to play that way next year and that’s about it.

We need a starting quality RB. ASAP. Going into next season without one, we’ll just be getting our just deserts.
 
He's young and defensively has a lot to improve to be ready for this level. I'm sure he will improve though. A more experienced right back though is absolutely necessary, and let Dalot develop normally.
 
That penalty decision was somewhere between harsh and ridiculous. I don't think it would have been awarded under VAR unless there was an angle I didn't see.

Not impressed by him clearing the ball up in the air rather than away from our goal. One decent cross early on.

I like him. Still raw but that's to be expected. Think he will be a good player for us next season.
 
Disappointing today.

His best asset is his attacking... which is so bad in this game. Still a threat but bad contributions.

Yeah, his defending is still a big weaknesses... and I don't trust the manager and coaches we have now to help improve this side of him. Hope to be proven wrong.

Dalot and Smalling are the only ones (1) hurrying back to defend.
It was a deep run by Murphy from our left midfield whom Pogba should've marked, or if he fail, Pereira to takeover. I don't get why Smalling is too far near the touchline trying to help Young defending against one player, possiblly Ole instructed Chris to do that. Anyway, McTominay and Dalot are the only left defending the box. McTom heavy-marked his men well to the ground, but no one else marked Murphy.

Tbf, it's true that Dalot should've stick to his man (Mendez-Laing) instead of (2) trying to cover by moving towards Murphy (since he's too far, Dalot won't make it, leave it to De Gea and others) then when he couldn't make it, he decided to (3) try to intercept with a slide which failed. It's a quick attack.

Lack of experience and good defending coaching in his decision making.

So Dalot did 3 things.

What I meant is he didn't commit to any action. Either make sure you block the pass across goal or close down the man on the ball... As you say, he did a bit of both and thus did neither
 
One of the worst purchases for a fullback position in recent history. He gets skinned by average players, all of his strengths point towards being a competent winger down the right.

Take AWB over him any day of the week. Anyone thinking AWB will stall Dalots development need their heads checking, it's like buying a Lamborghini and returning it because it doesn't have the same MPG as a Prius. Absolutely pathetic, some of the support for players on here is laughable.
 
Still boggles my mind that we obviously watched Porto games before buying him and went and bought him instead of their first choice right back who is now doing well at Leicester. United all over.
 
He's a young player that needs time to develop. It really is as simple as that.
 
He's played more than he should have right? Iirc he was bought to not play much but learn for the future. He either needs a run of games or to come on as sub in a team that's not constantly changing.

I also then look at who he's gonna learn from and it's an issue
 
He needs to be playing a lot more than he is, if we expect him to improve.

If Ole can’t give him the minutes it might be better to send him out on loan.

Yeah, I don't think the club expected Valencia to fall off a cliff. Dalot had played around 6 matches for Porto's first team.

And I'd be fine with that if we thought Dalot had more potential as the younger player. But we needed immediate help at RB not a project which Dalot clearly is. So we have had to bin Valencia mid season and have Young stinking up the place every week for a season. The decisions we make are amazing.

Pereira is ‘only’ 25 too. And we’re faced with having to splash out on yet another right back this summer anyway. Our transfer dealings have been fecking baffling for years now.

He has potential sure but he is still not good enough to start. He is a defensive liability at the moment and still needs another year or two under a more experienced RB to grow into the role. He'll still get to play plenty as he'll be the first cover for both LB and RB.
 
I don't think he'll make it here but I hope I'm wrong. Potential but too many problems for my liking.

You're definitely in the minority. It's been tough for him this season but I've been disappointed with him. He has a long way to go defensively. We need a right back. He doesn't look ready to me.
 
Is anyone concerned with his pace, or lack thereof? I know there's a lot more to football than speed, but as a fullback it's pretty much a minimum requirement.
 
Watched the game then a replay of it on MUTV and during both games the commentators from different broadcasters both said that cross he put in for Greenwood was terrible.

Now I don’t know if they’ve been watching United over the last 5 years but by our RB’s standard that was a truly exceptional cross. Managed to whip it round the first defender and better yet put it in an area where one of our players actually managed to make contact with the ball.

It was flat, whipped in with pace and was only just behind Greenwood. as far as I’m concerned that’s the best cross I’ve seen from one of our RB’s in years.

That's really the only thing that's worried me about him. At his age and lack of experience, positional awareness is normally not there yet. He's comfortable on the ball, has a great cross in him, but yes, he's pretty slow for a full back.
 
Lahm was one, but are there many modern fullbacks with as slow an acceleration as he has that play at the highest level? He takes a very long time to get going. The weird thing is that he uses the same technique as Evra did, give them a yard down the channel, which blocks the attacker going infield, but has a yard on you on the outside. The difference is that Evra could outpace most attackers and regain that yard, so it worked. With Dalot, he makes the most average attackers look class as not only do the attackers get away from him, they are often able to run around him. His one on one defending is wrong on so many accounts.

He seems quick enough when he has the ball. He's even kicked and run past defenders easily.

It's when he is defending he looks slow. Think he's just really slow to react to the attackers movement and ends up looking slow when's he's just struggling to catch up. Then he ends up diving in.
