He's a promising young player, but like I said so many times, don't get too carried away and just say he'll walk in and start consistently. The kid barely played for Porto's first team last season and was being groomed to step up for them this season. Just now he has to additionally do it in the premier league instead of the portuguese league. He's shown plenty of potential, but is clearly very inexperienced and shows that defensively pretty often. Ole will use him correctly I think and rotate him around, but no need to go overboard if he gets caught out defensively now and then.

I don't know what people are expecting, he's 19. He's a work in progress. We need to keep playing him.

He needs to bulk up a bit. At 19, this is valuable exposure for him and we know he has the goods.

I think hes fine going forward but he definitely needs to add some focus on his defensive responsibilities

It seems a bit harsh to call him out for that when thats Young and Valencia's weakness at right back as well.

The flow of the game was mostly on our left in the first half hence he was quiet obviously. He needs a run of games and I'm sure his class will shine through.

Mistakes is within expectations, so it's forgiven. He'll learn, EPL is just that tough, aggressive and energetic. Like Lindelof now who is stronger challenger, used to be so soft.

I think next game instead of pairing him with Fred on our right, it should be Herrera, a better support defensively. Fred should partner Young.
Basically,
(RCDM/RCM) + (RB)
Herrera + Dalot
Fred + Young

:drool:Almost score, his attacking sense is good but we know that already. Defensively showed his talents, but need more focus and better decision making.

Not a great match but he's had barely any first team experience so it's no surprise.

Not easy to be a RB in our team when you don’t have any support while defending and are asked to sprint forward to combine with attackers leaving the gaps behind you. We could do with Douglas Costa honestly, enough of these false wingers.

Up against one of the fastest players in the league and some on the Caf think he’s slow. Jeez the negativity in here!!!
I'm from Huddersfield and believe me the lad he was up against is absolutely rapid. Mbenza would beat most fullbacks for pace.

I'd say keep playing him. You don't get better sitting on the bench.

I'd rather he gets a chance this season to improve and make RB his own spot. Rather than the likes of Young and Valencia who though decent, shouldn't really have a future in the first team next season.

I like him going forward, but defending he is currently a bit of a liability which is a shame. I was hoping he'd be nailed on as our number 2 for the rest of the season but nah, Young it is.

He must improve, but honestly the potential is there. I prefer to give him minutes this season that is already lost, and see him develop rather than keep wasting minutes on Young, Valencia or Darmian.

I think being a 19 year old starting for Man United you cant blame people for expecting some brilliant performances that make you think "hes definitely the next big thing"

We just need to remind ourselves hes young. He has a wicked cross on him but yet to see how good he can be defensively

It's unlikely he's faced many wingers faster than Mbenza. In previous matches he actually relied on his pace to get him out of trouble, think he was a bit shocked to find out how rapid he was.

It still bothers me how little we attack down his side of the pitch though. Most of the match Mata was joining Pogba on the left, leaving Dalot in absolutely acres of space by himself on the opposite side. If we can sort some balance we'd be more of a consistent threat imo.

Thought he had a decent game but Ole did the right thing in taking him off. Young's experience was needed when Huddersfield upped their game.

I've seen nothing of note so far to say he's a special talent that we read all about before/after he signed. Poor defensively and offensively at that.

People making stupid judgements when they're saying they've seen as much as nothing of him. A few weeks ago he was shit, then he was the best thing since sliced bread after the Fulham game, now he's fecking shit again. Give him time.

This. Compare Dalot to TFM (who was rightly replaced by more talented Wan-Bissaka in Palace) or Rafael at similar age and he really pales in comparison. Needs to improve a lot, we’ve sent better performers out on loan.

When our tactics set us up to attack so blatantly and we have no wingers and Rely solely on full backs to provide width then there will always be massive space in behind that looks like the full backs are out of position when in actual fact they are positioned exactly where they should be and rely on system (and Matic) covering the space behind.

I think he played pretty well put in 2 good balls and had he scored from Rashford a cross it would have been a superb goal.

And this is based on how many minutes of an young player coming from a different country ?

Robertson was playing for Hull until last year.

It doesn't matter what team you play for. If you watch enough football you can usually tell if a player has it or not. It's not to say he won't make it but from what I've seen he is not great at anything. Not one attribute has stood out for me.

Yeah I think this is quite accurate.

He’s miles ahead of Timbo at RB.

I really like Dalot. The talent is obvious.

Don’t think he suits Fred as the RCM ahead of him. Fred and Mata on that side both look to come on the inside on their left.

Hope you had the same feedback about Evra and Vidic after 5 games.

And yes, it matters . Even highly talented scouts makes judgements only after several rounds of scouting . So lets agree to disagree on the part "if you watch enough football." because its pure BS.

Not even impressed by some of his crossing? What did you think of Varela when you first saw him? I thought he was going to be a world beater, he just looked like he had "it". Obviously he didn't. So maybe I will agree, Dalot doesn't have any great qualities at all.

If only he score that goal, the comments here will be different d. Like Fred, needs a run of games and agree that he needs to be paired with Herrera as right midfield 3.
