I don't blame Payet at all. He's 29 now and he wants to play for a top club which he's capable of doing. I also suspect that West Ham have made him promises that they haven't delivered on considering all of the high profile signings that they have tried and fail to complete.

I really feel for Bilic though and you know exactly what will happen.. West Ham will get considerably worse and the West Ham fans in their delusion about being a big club will attack Bilic, and he'll ultimately pay for it with his job.

They should sell him and use the money to buy Memphis.

He signed a 5 year deal less than a year ago. They should tell him to get fecked.

I'm curious, will people be so understanding if we don't make the CL this summer and Pogba, Mkhitaryan and Bailly decide they'd prefer to be playing for Madrid?

Probably with the promise that they'd bring in some star players! They just half-heartedly make bids for everyone these days, maybe to convince Payet that they're trying to bring in better players and maybe at this stage Payet sees right through it.

Who knows what he's been promised when signing that last contract.

What a blow to the fans though, seeing the best player they've had for years pulling a strop mid-season whilst they're in the shit.

In the end I don't care about Payet and where he plays but when you know that he only left Marseille because the previous owner asked for a favor, you can understand why Payet would jump on the opportunity to go back where he wanted to be in the first place.

But United is doing everything to get back to the top. Payet signed a new contract thinking he'd be playing in a new stadium with Lacazette, Bacca or Batshuayi but they ended up with duds like Zaza and are now scrimping around for Snodgrass and Scott Hogan.

Quite. It's a pretty shameful way to behave if you ask me. If you sign a contract, you do so in the knowledge that you can be held to it. Especially when that contract makes you rich beyond any possible merit or most people's wildest dreams.

If Payet has a problem with being 29 already, with little time left to take advantage of his current standing in the game, he can only blame himself for not knuckling down earlier in his career. He's been considered a talent in France for a long long time, but several coaches have noted his lack of application. I think it was his Nantes coach who described him as 'talented but naturally indifferent'?

I'm sur£ h£ was thinking of other things at th£ tim£.

Oh dear West Ham, maybe we'll have to sell Martial for £20 million to them after all.

If I'm one of Atletico, Bayern or Juve, I will carefully consider him. Might be the push that gets them past the Spanish Duopoly in the CL.

If City had tapped him up and they could atleast get 50m or something then they would be annoyed but fair enough.

The fact he wants to go back to France for half his potential value is a bit of a kick in the teeth. Marseille have obviously said let's bring you home and he's pissed now that they've told him no.

It's frustrating for them but let him sit on the reserves for £20m.

God i hate players that refuse to play for their club, there is nothing in football that i hate more. Hope his career turns to shit after this.

I'd feel a bit sorry for the club it's happening to if it wasn't West Ham, feck West Ham.
That said, if they did promise Payet they'd bring top players in and evidently failed to do so, I don't see why he should hold up his side of the bargain. I'm not sure who would want to sign him though. Maybe some Italian side?

Shit situation for both sides. Payet never wanted to go to WHU in the first place but motivated himself to play a great season so that he'd be a starter in his NT for the home Euros. Now, after he's achieved that he's standing in no mans land with a club with no perspective and him being tangled up with a long contract.
On the other hand you can't blame them for rejecting that 20m bid, that's brutally under todays market value.

No one forced him to sign the 5 year contract with a massive payrise and probably a hefty sign-on fee, that was all his own doing.

West Ham have had such a shit season

Small time cnuts, couldn't happen to a better bunch. I remember Bilic on TV covering the euros and waxing lyrical about him. Payet has done absolutely nothing since and it's been brilliant.

Apparently that's exactly what Bilic is doing.

According to him, they're not selling him and he's not playing or training until his attitude improves.

Well, fair play to Bilic, but that's a difficult position to stick to.

I suspect the fans will want Bilic to force him into the reserves as punishment at first. But both the fans and the manager will eventually accept that its better to take the transfer fee and the wages and tell him to eff off.

He'll be sold, they're just forcing him to hand in a transfer request

Normally I take the players view in these scenario, especially when the regression is as stark as West Ham's has been this year. That said the guy took up a new contract with the club last year, which nobody forced on him. If he wants to go back to Marseille fair enough, but trying to force it through in January when the club are in a bit of trouble instead of waiting until the summer and throwing a tantrum over it is shite. Feck him.

They have been bought by Frank McCourt.

Joke of an owner. What he did with the Dodgers in baseball showed the level of idiot he is.

Contract until 2021, they should do a Berahino with him. At least until he "feels like playing football" again.

Griezmann Payet Sanchez

Is Payet better than Martial currently... probably yes

Will he effect Martial development.. probably not

Will Mourinho look for 1 more elite level attacker.. knowing him ..yes

Who would you choose if you had the choice. Payet for £35 mio

I'd try and get Sanchez for ... maybe 60-70mio

Just looking at possibilites

But at the end of the day I'm pretty sure that if OM ever offer West Ham these fictive 40 million euros (instead of the measly 22 million € actually offered) for Payet then it will be accepted in a flash..

The annoying thing in this situation is that it is obviously up to the owners whether or not they ultimately sell Payet. As of right now they've obviously told Bilic that he can publicly state that Payet is going nowhere under any circumstances, but there is a good chance that come the end of January they'll sell him for a decent offer. Then the fans unleash on Bilic for his comments today.
