Dimitri Payet | Joins Marseille for £25million

I haven't seen this on any articles, where did you get that from?

It's from L'equipe, they have been reporting it for a good month now, apparently Garcia sees him as a priority and Marseille are willing to pay 40m.

Going off their own valuations this window they can expect a barrage of 5 million pound bids.
I'm actually going to make a bid myself, a freddo, a packet of space raiders, 17p and however much lint is in my bellybutton at the time of the meeting. Fingers crossed.

Should we propose a swap loan deal until end of the season for him with memphis? As memphis too needs some playtime in pl. He can significantly impact our goal difference at the end of the season.

Going gets tough and he has a strop. Was always going to happen, it's in his nature - he's done it many a time in his past. Should be avoided at all costs.

I don't remember many strops, I actually don't remember strops at all.

Seems they want to dig their heels but if someone is offering good money they'd be much better off letting him leave and bringing in someone like Memphis who's a young kid desperate to prove himself.

Look at Berahino now, WBA digging their heels in has fecked his career (he is most to blame of course) and now he's worth zero, it's been a massive lose/lose.

40 million brass buttons perhaps, Marseille talk a good transfer but when it comes to actually stumping up the wherewithal it becomes less obvious. The OM is a 2 ring circus, always has been, always will be.

You don't know that, I will be the first laughing if they end up with their own Colony Capital but let's wait and see before laughing.

West Ham are having a delightful time aren't they  and now their star player wants to bugger off to France just to make things even better.

Bilic has really hung him out to dry with his comments hasn't he. (deservedly so depending on your point of view).

They've lost Payet!
Dimitry Payet!
I just don't think you understand.
He doesn't like West Ham,
He's off to China man,
They've lost Dimitri Payet.

He is a very good player and tbh deserves to be at a bigger club.

West Ham would be daft to decline a bid upwards of 30m considering his age.

I don't remember many strops, I actually don't remember strops at all.

He done the exact same at St Etienne. Didn't show up to training, handed in transfer request etc. Widely reported he had a bad attitude at almost every club and a reason highlighted that despite his talents he was avoided for so long by most.

♫When the going gets tough
Payet gets going,
When the going gets rough
Payet's in a huff♫

Going back to Marseille is a cop-out.

The whole point he left them in the first place was to get the exposure the Premier League gives. West Ham was not a glamour move but it's done his reputation a world of good going there.

He didn't had a bad attitude at every club that's a gross exaggeration. And you are right about St Etienne I forgot about it, he was promised a transfer though and the club didn't respect it when Paris showed some interest.

Not really, he wanted to stay but Marseille needed the money.

But I do know that, I know quite a lot about the OM as it happens.

Players are free to push for a move, even with a contract, if they aren't happy or seek a different/better destination - irrespective of whether it is down to sporting reasons, homesick, wages, whatever

I suspect if he got a better deal last season then the club also were incentivised to profit more on a sale too, can't fault a player wanting out when the sporting project looks to be bleak after finishing 7th last season and having a great Euro tournament - he'll be 30, I understand him wanting the best situation

As long as the arrogant little twerp doesn't come here.

I know it is nice to laugh at West Ham regarding this, but player/agent power like this is a problem for all clubs, & needs to be stamped on. In the end they would probably sell, but wouldn't it be great if they made him play with the reserves for the next five years. He would be nearly 35 when his contract ends, & would probably be just at the level to play in China.

How can they afford it? I thought the whole reason they sold Payet et al was because they were in financial trouble...

Ok. £10m doesn't seem a lot for a club like Marseille but I'll take your word.

Still when you consider how well he's done and the fact he is now recognised world-wide as a high quality footballer he can aim a little bit higher surely?

The precedent owner wanted to sell the club and they had a 40m deficit or something like that. That's why Ayew, Gignac and Mandanda haven't been renewed and Payet sold.

They have been bought by Frank McCourt.

Think we've seen exactly why he's at West Ham at the age of 29.

Obviously talented but not THAT good and with a questionable attitude to boot. Hope he rots in the reserves tbh.

If Deschamps had built the team around Pogba and Griezmann rather than Payet then France would've won the Euros but for whatever reason he chose to have everything going through Payet and look what happened.

Either shoots from stupid angles or dives around the box looking for his freekick.
It wont be a big miss for West Ham

The team was built around Griezmann which led to Payet not being very good at the exception of the pool.

To many people jumping into conclusions about his character.
He never wanted to leave Marseille in the first place. And as for West Ham, just look at the state the club is in, in general?

How will Payet respond? Will be interesting to say the least!

That's what I read as well. He never wanted to leave Marseille, so you can't blame him for wanting back, given the situation at West Ham.

Quality in the final third but a liability when backs against the wall.

Add poor attitude and the fact we have young talent in his position and its obvious he won't be joing us.
