Another brilliant performance. Keep it up, he's very likeable when he does interviews and he starting to become very influential on the pitch,

I tell you what, he does look a bit leaner though, seems to have had a very good pre-season

According to RFR's Manchester United Blog – Photo: What was written on Berba’s shirt?

It says “For you, Father” in Bulgarian.

Seriously buzzin' for the fella! He's a proper United player now, you feel.

Agree with this point. Before I admit I always felt Berbatov would be gone in the next couple of years at least but now you do feel if he belongs. Still a long way to go in the season but until Rooney finally gets over his usual start of season hangover, Berbatov is able to carry the team.

Be interesting though to see how we line up against Liverpool mind.

he's been our best striker so far. still early doors, lets see how he does against bigger clubs in bigger matches. pleased with his contribution and effort though.

The big one will be what happens against Liverpool. I think it would be a kick in the teeth if SAF drops him, but its what happens in big games to accomindate the 451 formation

One thing I will say is, if he hadnt scored today (so we take away the goal he did score) then I'd still have been looking for a bit more threat in and around the box from him and concequently I wouldnt have rated his performance as highly as I do. Just my opinion.

But of course he did score, and it was a great goal.

My point is just that for me, he needs to be scoring goals and regularly for me to rate him highly and be happy to see him starting matches as I am now. Thats just due to how indirect he can be sometimes, and not the direct threat to goal that some of our other strikers are.

At the same time his general play did emphasise Scholes' play in the middle of the park and help us with the passing moves we did very well with. But if I have to choose between 3 or 4 passing moves or a game winning goal from my striker, then its obviously the goal.

Doing well, hopefully he keeps it up. I don't think even Berba-haters can complain at his efforts so far. I bet if he has one below average game in the next few weeks most will be on his back again right away.

how i've longed to read posts like these :)

And how I've longed to write them Erica. :)

He's running more freely this season. He's definitely working harder in some areas, like getting in behind the defence. A movement that was almost non-existant for him in the past 2 seasons. And he's also winning more headers (sometimes under good pressure). So I think its fair to say his hard work is more effective, if not more in evidence in the first place.

He's made one tiny adjustment to his game, and it's made a big difference: this season, whenever he drops deep, picks up the ball, then lays it off to one of the midfielders, nine times out of ten he immediately makes a beeline for the box.

Agree with both of you. Whether its down to workrate, confidence or tactical instruction doesn't really matter to me, but his movement is so much more effective now than it was. He's still a bit slow to shoot as it seems his first instinct is always going to be to pass, but its great that he's doing it in and around the penalty area now.

I'll agree with Brwned, he's putting things together this season. Last season he had a lot of chances and could have scored a lot of goals but it wasn't a bad season by any means. Towards the end of the season his work-rate couldn't be questioned really, it was just a case of putting the ball in the back of the net.

He is one of the hardest players to get the ball off, and his close control and short passing is brilliant.

I've haven't been Berbatov's biggest fan but even I am willing to forget the past if he carries on this form. TBF West ham were really poor and we would have beaten them with or without him. I just hope he hits 20+ goals this season because he is capable.

Just a fantastic pure footballer, wonderful technical ability on display yet again and looks to be enjoying his football a lot more, (maybe it kinda helps when the fans arnt booing you after 10 minutes)....

Always maintained were lucky to have a player of his ability at the club, can do things no other player we have can, and has been comfortably our standout forward so far, but for Scholes hes been our best player period.

Hes going to make a lot of 'certain people' look very stupid this season.

Classy goal and a more happy Berbatov which is what we want to see and I'm glad he looks settled now. I hope he plays a much bigger role during the important games and CL and prove the doubters wrong. Keep it up berb!

I hope he continues to make me look stupid. Very impressed by his start to the season

People criticising him up to now had been correct. So no they won’t look stupid. He had not performed to a level that was expected in his 1st 2 seasons, save a handful off games.

Everybody wants the same thing - and that is a fit and confident Berbatov

Now he is starting to look like the player we purchased 2 years ago. But he needs to keep on doing it.

3 massive and tough games coming up. Lets hope we are all singing his praises after them too

Never for sale if I was in charge. The guy is a genius whenever his side has the ball.

I have been watching him particularly closely since the pre-season kicked off because there were question marks over him, and quite simply I have not seen movement off-the-ball nor appreciation and understanding of space like Berbatov, ever. I'm only 26 though, so make of that what you will.

It's totally understandable why so many people slate him. A lot of football fans watch football for the ball at the feet, the dribbles, the goals, the volleys, the tricks, the stepovers. That's understandable, but there is far more to the game than that. For me Berbatov is the on-pitch embodiement of Sacchi, the compression and exploitation and control of space. The understanding of the team as a unit moving through space and attacking or defending space. I know that this is going to come across very poorly but as far as I am concerned it is absolutely true. Berbatov is not only completely unmarkable but he knows he is completely unmarkable and he also knows precisely where to be at any given time for maximum effect irrespective of whether or not he recieves the ball.

The guy is without a doubt one of the true genius players at the club. It is a shame that so few people see it. But I look forward to seeing him play every time a teamsheet is announced. If United can cope with his lack of defensive ability then what he brings to the attack is unique and very special.

I Have always been a fan. He was an absolute genius for spurs at times and i was so surprised when he didn't hit the ground running at United.

I was so excited on deadline day two years ago, I didn't go to bed until the transfer was confirmed (past 1am I think?) even though work beckoned the next day.

He is the kind of player that is Taylor made for us and maybe just maybe this will be the season that he shuts up all the doubters once and for all!

he's hot right now. his form comes and goes. since arriving at United (he's had his moments) but for whatever reason it's mostly been gone. right now he's on the up. for United's sake i hope he stays that way...but i'm not going to hold my breath.

I could have paid for him myself when we signed him, he was my absolute dream signing that summer and I was so happy when we finally got him. I have given up on him at least a dozen times since then but if he can finally show what a fantastic player he is this season it'll be like *cue cliche* a new signing.

I'd have had no qualms about him being sold in the summer, so far he has had two good games this season and if in 30 games time he is still playing as well then that will be great.

Is he still for sale by the Caftards?

I will not hide the fact that I more than anything wanted him gone and done with. That said, I think this season has more in store for him than most would dream of. This season is a make-it-or-break-it for him. I think he will make it. He will come true, or not at all. It looks good. No, it looks more than good. It looks brilliant.

Glad I have some ammunition to fire back at the lads. total haters of Berba while I been defending him since day one. Long may it continue :)
