I do think that Berbatov is pretty much indefensable at this point. When you have to bring up a game like Bolton, where he did all, then you really are clutching at straws. Is he a very good player? Yes Has he been at United? No It is really that simple he doesnt fit with the style didnt last year, and even more so doesnt now. In the end he was a really poor buy much like Veron, not because he cost a lot, but because he didnt fit in and wasnt really needed.

Going back to his purchase though, I blame the whole thing on Tevez. He missed the first match of the season to go home and see his uncle or something for family matters. Now not that I dont have a heart or anything but Tevez seems to have no problem with his baby mama raising his kid while he frolicks around with supermodels, so I dont exactly consider him the most oriented family man, just a selfish footballer, like many today. Regardless, that 1-1 draw v Newcastle on the opening day highlighted the lack of attacking options available to SAF on the day, Ronaldo was out(and at the time reported to be out til mid december) and tevez wasnt reliable, espiecally considering all the WC qualifying. I seriously believe had Tevez stayed in Manchester that weekend and United skullfecked Newcastle say 5-1 or something that SAF would have told Levy to feck off and one of two things would have happened Spurs would have had to keep the unhappy Berbatov or they would have sold him to United or another top team for a much lower price, or perhaps he would have ended up at City on deadline day as the rumors go. Quite amusing when you think that Berbatov could currently be at City adn Tevez still at United hahaha.

No one has excused your posts ;)

The point is that he made a stupid post, and a quick search of his posts since promoted seem to be almost predominantly negative about Berbatov, even in unrelated threads, so there seems to be an agenda.

An agenda?? People usually post on forums to further agendas/views etc. Par for the course and not a reason to single him out.

The stupid post was the reason to single him out.

Agendas against certain players don't exactly lead to productive discussions, likewise those that are so blind about supporting a player that they fail to acknowledge any faults.

Ouch!....Before joining the site I read for quite a while and noticed the animosity on any topic concerning Berbatov, that is why I have simply avoided discussing him at any length, basically some have venomous views on him and those that defend him are venomous to those that think he's crap so in the end it's a viscous circle.

At this juncture he is our player so I hope he does well when he plays, personally I never thought he was a good buy and I am mostly underwhelmed by him, my one question is if we are going to sign an extension with him, which I guess must be due up soon.

I think the most puzzling aspect has always been why he hasn't performed for us as he did for Spurs, and the only answer I can think of is that he is one of those players that fades under the pressure of playing for a huge club.

Personally I think he was signed at a time when the ownership of the club was beginning to come under some scrutiny. We were at the top of the game...we made a mistake before after 99 by not strengthening, and SAF didn't want to make that same mistake again.

So it suited both SAF and the Glazers to 1) deflect the attention off the owners and/or any debt, 2) strengthen with a proven premiership player.

The problem arises when you consider the time scale of the transfer. We had all summer to tie it up - yet the price probably got bumped up more in the last few hours than it did over the entire summer. Yet we still went for the transfer, just because City rushed it through. Increasing the price, adding further pressure.

It seems to me like we didn't take into consideration the style of play we were going to adopt in the season ahead. It ended with Fergie admitting he was playing Berbatov in the wrong position.

so this season, we were expecting bigger things, after being assured the problem had been resolved. But it just hasn't happened, maybe because he can't take the pressure...but more over, the strain on our midfield (the 3 man midfield is a necessity in big games) has lead to Berbatov being benched. For some reason though, we are unable to understand this - and blame him for his inconsistency.

Combine the fact that he has rarely scored important goals for us with the fact we seemed to pay over the odds for him (considering that other strikers, considered to be of better quality, are going for a similar price), then we have the cause of the complaints.

His nonchalant style of play doesn't seem welcome at United. We want players who wear their heart on their sleeve. Anything less than this, and its unacceptable.

Or, it is, if you can pull it off against the biggest teams...but sadly it doesn't seem to be the case. You may say that Cantona was the king of nonchalant...he had the guile and the desire to win - backed with the ability to orchestrate the play whilst being a major attacking threat - Berbatov has these qualities (arguably not to as high a standard as Cantona). Not sure how useful Cantona would have been as a lone front man either. He always had a faster strike partner alongside him (See Cole and Hughes). Similarly, we have seen how good Berbatov is with a faster strike partner.

Strikes me as a feck up by the management team. We signed a player who never really fitted into any future plan or system we expected to play.

Anyway, it's back to the drawing board...unless he can add a healthy amount of goals to his below par total for the season. 5 would suffice.

Muppets. People who don't share your view.

By your own defintion, I am should call you a muppet.

Where does this get us?

Nowhere.

You think Berbatov is great. I don't.

Ferguson's defence of Berbatov smacked of a manager not particularly overwhelmed with his striker looking in fact to big him up, Sharky McShark style.....................in order that some other team please make a bid for the lazy mofo.

That's not the defintion of a muppet. Whether Berba is a good player or not, and whether we should keep him are things that are definitely up for ongoing debate. I can respect both sides of that debate.

The idea that his contribution pales in comparison to that of Tevez, or that like I said he hangs around in the centre circle not doing much - those are plain wrong from a factual stand point, and as such anyone that adheres to those views is a muppet.

That's a good question. He's a much better player than Berbatov but I reckon Berbatov would look better as part of the same side that Cantona played in front of.

As a doctor you should know better than to waste your breath on the simpleminded :nono:

So he feels strongly that Berbatov is not cutting it for us and posts his thoughts often because he's impassioned about the subject and these posts he made happen to come at a time when he's been promoted. So what? Most of my posts lately are about how lazy Berbatov is, but because I joined in 2001 or whatever it was, I can be excused my posts?

Daft.

You're right about that, Dans.

Newbies are sometimes not tolerated for making the same kind of comments that older posters make.

Double standards are alive and well.

this, there are brigades with their agendas on these boards and there is very little sense discussing certain matters with them. lets say a poster X is perfectly reasonable when it comes to player Z, becomes blind, limited in his/her perception and furiously bigs up his man- player Y.

Talking about Berbatov is a pleasure with loads of people here, however few 20k+ posters decided that he's the second coming and that's about it. Feel sorry for the guy (Commodore or whatever) but he will get his ass kicked just for not being a fan of certain player.

Well put Dans.

I have a feeling this Berba debate will run and run.... until the summer. :smirk:

Seriously though, I wonder what all these posters who have so venomously backed Berbatov would say should SAF decide to move him on in the summer and admit that he never really fitted in here?

:lol::lol::lol:

I King Kev's voice: I'd love it, luuuve it

one more serious note- opinion is just opinion, what's best to the club is the most important. If Fergie decided that Berbatov is the right man to build a team around then let's be it.

I somehow think that Berbato'v situation won't change next season. Still with us, still a utilized as a weak team unlocker (so to speak).

You would, wouldn't you? Prefer it to him turning it on for us? :smirk:

The man's class is apparent, and it's sad he's not quite working for us... I hope it can work out :\

Im not a fan of him but i was pleased with his form recently. do check out MOTM threads with my votes. I frequently put Bebrs as a MOTM.

id love nothing more than Berbs becoming a player we all wished to be- prolific striker who can change games on his own.

but aye, id would be funny to see some poster eat their words ;)

Frequently MOTM? How is he doing badly then, for you? That's better than most other players, in your eyes ;)

My scepticism towards him is rooted in his first season with us and the beginning of this. He has recently changed the way he plays - he playes further on the pitch and realises the ball faster. that alone has changed my view. a bit but still.

Oh, feck off! You can't have it both ways. You obviously would like to see Berba crash and burn, not that anybody with any sense would lend you an ear though. Being critical is fine, being skeptical is wholesome, but you can wipe your ass with your negativity. Annoying as feck you two bit glory hunting midget of a dildo. Exclamation point. Rant over.

This... only politer.

And Red Norse: does your location ask us whether we lick dick?

great. now do try to figure it out which option i would choose- proving some random posters wrong or seeing my team performing well and winning trophies with certain player being a key figure?

now let me think....

That would usually be a good rhetorical question, but on the Caf I'm afraid you're going to have to spell it out.

Which is bollocks to be fair. . .I don't know any poster who doesn't think he's been disappointing or a ****.

Would be nice if some you could actually read first though. But again, agendas and all that - perhaps you're right.

Spare us from your "thinking". This random poster would rather throw exclamations than argue his case as you and others are obviously visionally impaired. How can you argue with a person bereft of the most basic of senses to enjoy what Berba brings to the table?

And Eriku; it's the polite form to ask if someone can give you decent head..

How's it polite? What would the casual way of saying it be? Feel free to pm the asplanation, or to tell me to feck orff :)

"venomously backed"?

Brilliant. That's what we're dealing with here. People that think a player can be "venomously backed"

16 mins gone, United attack, Nani puts the cross in, Berbatov isn't even in the box. 3 others are though.
