Didier Drogba - Signed for Chelsea on a one-year contract

Well, he can hardly be worse than Ba or Torres. If Lukaku is up for it, I think they'd just be better off having him and Costa compete for a starting place.

"experience" is overrated. He might bag them a goal or three. But I'm not worried, he is pretty much past it.

Looked finished to me in the WC. Bit part player and more for morale than anything.

Shouldn't have left them in the first place. If Drogba had been there last season, Chelsea may well have won the league. Always wished he could have been a United player. He may act like a big girl's blouse at time, but when he's on song, he's one hell of a player.

to a point I agree but he can still do a job off the bench or against certain types of defenders.
But certainly a help on the training ground and in the dressing room

Seen a few Chelsea fans on twitter ranting about it. Complaining how Mourinho will buy old players and either ship youngsters out on loan or just not use them. It's nice and all for them from an emotional perspective but from a football perspective seen quite a few questioning it.

he hasnt bought him

I know he's getting a feck load of cash, and the chance to work with Mourinho again, but he went out as their key player in one of their best seasons, scoring the winning pen in the champions league final. Now he's just going to sit on the bench behind Costa.

Jose really doesn't rate Lukaku it seems. If I were Drogba, I'd have stayed away. His last kick for Chelsea won them the Champions league, so I'd have left it at that.

Weird signing. They have limited CL spots open and he doesn't meet any special ones. Wasn't good in the CL last season. Wasn't good at the WC.

They should have learnt from the Eto'o transfer and not sign a striker who's past it. He was a beast of a player but those two years didn't do him any good. I expect goals from him but he won't tear the league apart like in the past so i'm relaxed.

Great for morale and still probably has a few goals in him but I can't see this as a good move, unless Torres is leaving. Lukaku should be getting those games. They could use a strong leader, now that Lampard and Cole are gone but this feels a lot like Henry's return to Arsenal. Sentimental and, frankly, pointless.

Ba was great for them. Great option off the bench.

And work on the training field with the youngsters, be able to do coaching badges, work with his foundation doing fund raising ( use to hold events in London where loads of PL stars use to come along) etc etc.

Why leave in the first place then?

he allegedly turned down a 2 year deal with Juve for a 1 year deal with Chelsea. That suggests its not about the playing time and there are other factors involved

He won't tear the league apart but its a great move to sign him back. He will be a brilliant option off the bench and still has that physical, dominant side to him.

He's nowhere near the player he used to be, but Mourinho loves his attitude and with Cole, Lampard and a few other veterans gone, his experience and leadership may come in handy in the dressing room.

Plus, he won't play a lot, and coming on as a sub with 20 minutes left to have a go at the defensive line that had to deal with 70 minutes of Diego Costa or Romelu Lukaku before that, he might do some damage. As a bit player he may still be quite valuable, and of course, he's a big influence off the pitch.

spot on

Can you hear all those groans coming out of North London? :D

Excellent news. Arguably our most important ever player, last kick of the ball for us was the stuff of fairytales, and now he's back in a support role. Should Costa need the time to adapt we know we can rely on Drogs.

You have to wonder why Chelsea wouldn't try and tempt Cavani.
