Didier Drogba - Signed for Chelsea on a one-year contract

Mourinho bottled it with his lack of faith in him and in turn it cost him a league title.
you do not know very much then do you.
It has been well documented the the manager wanted him to stay but Lukaku want guaranteed starting spot because of World cup.
The irony of it all, is that had lukaku had the bottle to stay and fight for his spot he would've ended up playing quite a lot especially in 2nd half of season when there were injuries, suspensions and lack of form to the other 3

Lukaku is massively overrated anyway.

Lukaku obviously felt Mourinho didn't show him enough faith or give him enough reassurances for him to want to stay. It was bad management by Mourinho and it cost him a league title.

rubbish...read the interviews.

I think this is a clever move by Mourinho, they cannot go wrong with bringing Drogba back. Is it correct that he will be a player coach?

Might damage his reputation if he has a few shocking games that frustrate the fans.

Powerful forward with a great scoring record in cup finals, bar that he never really had more than 2 good goal scoring seasons, just saying.

Poor signing. Being too sentimental isn't something you could often criticise Mourinho for but this time it's true. They'd be better off giving one of their youth strikers the minutes Drogba will waste.

not officially. But the word is that he will do his badges and ambassador work at the club in seasons to come

he was also the reason why Frank Lampard scored a shed load of goals, often drawing defenders away, or knock downs, pens and free kicks

Lukaku did the right thing. Played the whole season at a good team instead of wondering why he was sitting on the bench with a lost headcase being preferred in his stead.

He'll still be good I reckon. I don't expect him to be first choice but if Costa is injured, he'll do the job.

I expect Torres and Lukaku to be sold.

that might be so...but it wasnt Mourinho's fault why Lukaku went.

A manager like Ferguson would of showed him enough love that he wouldn't of put in a loan request. Lukaku must of been getting bad vibes of Mourinho for him to request a loan especially considering Lukaku is a big Chelsea supporter who would obviously prefer to play for them over Everton.

and leave Chelsea with just Costa and DD plus the youngsters?

I don't like blaming Lukaku or questioning his attitude. If Jose wanted him last season he should have not sent him on loan.

All signs seem to suggest he'll be off (Lukaku) which is a shame as I still think he could be very effective for us. Yet another big money forward not working out.

As for Drogba, I'm chuffed to bits he's back.

now you are speculating just to please your non factual posts

So Mourinho signed the star striker from his old Chelsea days, and last season the star striker from his Inter days... does that mean Benzema to Chelsea next season?

Didn't realise had so many low-scoring seasons. That's a very high proportion of <20 goal seasons. Don't think he got that many assists to make up for them either?

I'm thinking there's something to the rumors that Torres could go back to Atleti.

Costa and Lukaku each starting their fair share of games with Drogba as the guy that comes on no earlier than the 80th minute on rare occasions.

He played upfront on his own in almost all of those seasons, occupying both opposing central defenders whilst other players could do their thing. "assists" is a bullshit stat in my opinion.

I dunno. If you've got a supposed top striker only scoring 15 or 16 goals in a season it looks a lot less ineffectual if he's also setting up his share of goals. Rooney's record is better than Drogba but not up there with the very best. In his defence, though, when he's not getting 20+ goals it's when he's playing a bit deeper and creating instead.

Not saying Drogba isn't (wasn't?) a great player but those stats make him look like someone who blows hot and cold. Piss poor compared to the likes of Ruud, Shearer or Henry and I always thought he might go down in history as someone who was close to their level.

He has been linked to go back to Atletico for seasons now It would be a poor for them Atletico can not see it happening.

This is like signing Duncan a Ferguson when he is in his late 30's. A battering ram, no more!!

True, but this time there seems to be something in it.

Apparently their fans were chanting his name at Mandzukic's unveiling so they obviously really want him back and their owner/director has come out and said they'd gladly welcome him back. I could see it happening. Maybe even a loan.

Mourinho still loves that tactic of hoofing it forward aimlessly if they're chasing a goal with 20 minutes to go and in fairness he'll surely be a lot better than Ba at being the super-sub target man off the bench. I wonder if they're still paying him a shedload of cash though?

70 assists in 8 seasons is a pretty good record for a striker I think. I think his goals record in the cups was pretty good but in the league over the course of his Chelsea career he scored a goal every 150 minutes which I imagine is a lot closer to Welbeck than Henry.

Ivanovic has played the last 20 minutes upfront in our last 2 pre season games. I'd much rather have Drog as the target than him!

As for his wages, I hope he's on an absolute shitload. He deserves it.

He's on 50k a week apparently.
