Didier Drogba - Signed for Chelsea on a one-year contract

And Lukaku, well he's young, and if Chelsea get rid of him they are mental.I don't think they will though, and Drogba wil act and was brought in ,in a big part of joses thinking,to be/ a mentor to hone his game.

There's a rumour that Lukaka has pissed off someone important at the club, and that an ex-player has been trying to smooth it over for the last 6 months or so. If he leaves it's unlikely to be because of his talent.

Interesting. Considering he was the main man up front for the most part, that record is poor for who many considered a world class player.

He wasnt a Henry, Ruud or Shearer who poached goals, took loads of Pens etc, he was a powerhouse and a big game player.

When you wanted someone who would destroy, bully and toy with the very best, Barca(Repeatedly) Arsenal(Constantly), Bayern, Liverpool, and every cup final we were in who would you want? Drogba beats the other 3 hands down, but hes not going to get you a hat trick vs a lower ranked team every week.

There are strikers who are more than just a huge tally of goals, and I guess its what you guys may wish Welbeck could one day be. He'll get you one goal, the winner, and it would be in the final vs a top team. That and he probably would have scored it entirely by himself.

He was the man behind a lot of Lampards goals.

It's interesting that people still don't realise that Lukaku isn't currently suited to Chelsea at all. The world cup showed just how much he lacks when he is spearheading a possession based team.
He outscored all your strikers last season though spearheading a possession based team

Yeah, it feels like there's no real downside to it. He's only on 50k a week, it gives the fans a huge lift having him back, he can be a huge influence on the young players, he can start doing his coaching badges to hopefully end up staying long term on the staff, and he's still capable of coming on as a sub and turning a match around.

Lukaku has a terrible first touch, is very poor with his back to goal, can't hold the ball up well and bring his teammates into play, and is surprisingly poor in the air for someone his size.

He needs space to run at defenders and is much better facing the goal than playing the Drogba role.

They'd be mad to sell him anywhere as I think he'd be brilliant coming off the bench and battering tired defenses who've had Diego Costa to deal with for an hour or so.

Good to see back him in the premier league, one of my favourite all time premier league strikers. Has a habit of scoring against us though which I hate. It also means we get to hear Tyler scream "DROGBAAAAAAHHHH!" And the romantic return to chelsea punch line he can't wait to say.

He'll score big goals for them again, guarantee it. A 94 mins winner against Bayern Munich in the CL quarter final second leg has his name all over it.. Jose running down the touchline.."Chewsea,Chewsea,Chewsea,".. #Drogba Chelsea legend etc, etc.

Decent option off the bench but doubt he'll score more than 5-10 goals at a push.

I wouldn't necessarily disagree with you although you are being harsh in my opinion. However Lukaku's numbers don't lie and he scored 1 goal every 2 games in a possession based team which can't be dismissed.

based on what?
Mourinho doesnt do sentiment like that otherwise Lampard and Cole would still be there (i.e. he would have asked the board to give them 2 years instead of 1 year)

Based on the fact that it is entirely sentiment. Just like Fowlers return to Liverpool or Henry's return to Arsenal on loan. He is clearly past it. He was free so it's no big deal really.

Teams don't park the bus or pack their entire XI inside their own half against Everton or West Brom. He won't be afforded the space to run into and build up that head of steam that makes him so terrifying to go against.

The Lukaku at the World Cup is likely to be the one we see at Chelsea rather than the one we saw at Everton or West Brom. If you crowd around him and don't allow him space he's basically useless.

Believe Jose has got caught up in sentiment regarding Drogba, should have given Lukaku the chance this coming season. Impressed at West Brom/Everton and the fella must be wondering about leaving permantely now. This will probably conclude Chelsea's business this summer.

Chelsea fans will be delighted as he's a legend for them.. But could Drogba maybe tarnish his reputation a bit this coming year. I mean his last kick of a football was to win the Champions league.. Be different this time round.

The thing that annoys me is that if Lukaku had never played for Chelsea, was owned by Everton and had the exact same season as he did last year I honestly think we'd be offering 30 million odd for him.

Drogba coming in is a good move for Lukaku IF Chelsea keeps Lukaku around. They're similar players and Lukaku can learn a lot from him. As far as Drogba playing, he wasn't setting the Turkish league alight, so I don't think this is much of a squad improvement.

rubbish....Mourinho doesnt do sentiment. Its because he can do a job that is being asked of him. Do you honestly think Mourinho would give up one of the 17 CL non home grown if it wasnt for good reason.

Drogba and Lukaku aren't similar at all football wise.

Pretty much the only thing they have in common is that they're both huge.

How are they not similar...
Drogba in his prime was excellent in the air both offensively and defensively, great at set pieces, free kicks, hold up play, playing with his back to goal, and playing as the loan striker.

Lukaku isn't anything like that.

I dont think it will tarnish any reputation, because we all know why hes being brought back.

We didn't have a disastrous season last term, so its not like hes being hailed as a messiah coming to save us, its just a sensible decision, him being there will add experience the younger ones lack and add a few goals too.

Lampard leaving left a massive void in shirt sales. Although i still think he'll do something decent next season, far better than Etou, or Torres.

tosh..chelsea sell around 800k-1m shirts a season irrespective of who is there

The very idea there are hordes of Lampard fanboys and -girls!

Believe it or not, he's Second in record sales in the. PL, only to Wayne Rooney.

Edit: He's a London boy who had a better scoring ratio that Paul Scholes. Sadly for him, he was never even in the same galaxy as our ginger magician. That's why I pretty much hate the national team.

With almost every goal coming from a cross or counter attack. He very rarely if ever scored from a patient attack. His technique is shocking.

It is pretty common for players who excel physically either through pace or strength at a young age to have poor technique. Unfortunately lukaku does.

I think you 2 are underestimating the amount of teams who came to Goodison last season and put a lot of men behind the ball.
