Di Marzio: Mata has been offered to Inter Milan

The bloated wages of our squad players almost guarantee we won't easily be finding buyers. Extending the likes of Rojo on 100k contracts isn't the way to recoup value. Our club know this and it's why I doubt they extended the contracts in blind hopes that someone will take these players.
We extend his contact and we have an additional option on the bench, or a transfer fee when we sell him. If we don't extend his contract we get nothing. It's a no-brainer to me.

I am somehow beginning to feel Di Marzio is becoming less reliable. He has grown too much famous and is under pressure to put out a new breaking news every day. So he is putting out as much news as possible, even from his weak sources
What's that based on?

He's still pretty much spot on to me.

Much like Blind, very good technically but no current need or space in our 11 for him.

Nice guy, stand out professional excellent footballer.

Needs a new club to get regular game time and a new league, especially a less demanding league would suit him.

Hit good heights here, especially the brace against liverpool :)

Can't believe we'd get rid of him unless we're bringing in a RW

I always wonder how clubs offer a player to another club. Does Woodward just send an email titled 'who wants Mata?' and cc's every club in europe in it?

He's useless anyway. Might as well field 10 players than play with him.

We have Lingard and can even shunt Sanchez to the right if Rashford plays left. Both would do better than Mata's 2-3 goals per season. Nice guy, get rid and bring him back as an ambassador or something in the future.

I would assume the club get to know through various agents they are in contact with that other clubs are looking for certain players. Even our scouts might report that scouts from other clubs were at games they went to. Then probably a formal email inquiring their interest is issued by whoever's in-charge of transfers.

I'd imagine he puts together something akin to a Cillit Bang advert and sends it out as a video message. Something akin to "Hi, i'm ED WOODWARD and i'm here to tell you..."

I know he's crap, but we still need to make up the numbers if we're to compete in four competitions. Our right wing is already lacking quantity and quality as it is.

I'm sure I've heard before that they have some kind of online system. Maybe I dreamt that after playing too much FM though.

Only for PR reasons we need to keep him. I love Mata! Decent squad option and very healthy for the dressing room.

When di Marzio says Barca have bid for Pogba people here laugh it off. When he says Mata has been offered to Inter people here believe it.

Am I right?

I’d like to think there’s an eBay for football players.
Wenger would have been a watcher on every player so he could say he was interested.
Utd would constantly see items go unsold.
Bayern would have a star rating of 1 for all the damaged goods they’ve sold.
Levy would set the reserve price at £100 million for every player

Hopefully this is true not because i want him gone but because it signifies someone else might be coming in.

I'm a bit worried we have a one out one in policy right now, feels like we've stalled on positions to get ridnof others first

Hope we have someone coming.

Even so, I still think he's a useful squad member.

More concerned about the squad impact than loss of his abilities. Spanish armada wouldn't be happy.

It makes sense for Juan to leave. He might be the nicest guy in football. Unfortunately he does not really have a role in the Mourinho system. Jose prizes pace on the flanks because he is a counter attacking manager, Mata doesn't offer that. As it seems to be that United need to sell before buying you can see why Juan would be the one offered up to recoup funds.

Why are we getting rid of our best player at modelling the new kits (and general United swag) every year? I thought we were the World Champions of Marketing? If we want to retain that title, it's a poor move.

World class contribution there.

Don't let Jose see that the Caf almost universally agree that Mata should leave, he'll start him every week and blame Martial for the poor results !

It's tiresome to hear about Martial and Jose in every thread. What's the point of this comment that has nothing to do with this thread. it is a stupid comment who serves no purpose.

At this point, I think we need to keep him. We're days from the transfer window closing and he'll be a useful squad player over the season.

I wanted us to upgrade him this window, but without anybody to replace him we can't let him go this window.

RW is short enough as it is ffs!

The only thing this makes me hopeful for, is that we've got a replacement lined up. Shame to see him go, seemed like such a nice guy - Juanfield

He could be a good option in a possession based team, where players see plenty of the ball, but the way we play is not suited to him. Still, this only makes sense if we have a player lined up to replace him. He could be a good squad player, at least he has a good fitness record. Always available when needed.

If this is true, Surely Jose would not even consider the option of selling Mata without a replacement lined up.

Rather just keep him. Seems very popular, doubt we'll replace him either.
Pretty sure we would have a replacement in mind. Otherwise don't see why we would sell him this late and get rid of a body given we play about 50 games this season.

For what it's worth, if we are not going to use him in his best position, then it's better to sell him rather than going through the motions.

Replacing him I get. Selling him right now I don't.

As with Mkhitaryan (who was also supposed to replace Mata) you never know how new signings will actually pan out.

Much though I love the little guy, I'd be fine with us selling him once an upgrade has been signed and bedded in. Until he is actually proven surplus to requirements though it would be strange to sell him.

Hope we sell him tbh. Don’t think he’s that good anymore.
