Television Dexter

I think overall the season was pretty average. I didn't particularly like Lumen and I do think they could have explored the Jordan chase back story a bit more. I still don't get why he wears the vial of blood around his neck. The finale was also very forced I felt. Hope next season is much better otherwise it might b time to put an end to Dex. Matsuka's gf was pretty fit though :)

I agree, I think they wasted a potentially very interesting character.

As much as I do love the show (and I enjoyed this season immensely) the plot holes and some of the writing in general was weak, and I think it had to do with the executive changes. Some guy who was doing 24 (and he got bad reviews there) took over and it's obvious that he didn't do the best job in terms of guiding the writing and ensuring the writing stays tight

For those interested, in real life, Debra and Dexter have filed for divorce.

Agree with all of that especially with the finale. V poor imo

MICHAEL C. Hall is moving on from his marriage breakdown.

The actor — who recently announced his split from wife Jennifer Carpenter — has been spotted getting cozy with actress Julia Stiles.

The pair were seen together earlier this week while taking a break from shooting Dexter.

“Michael was checking out Julia’s butt,” a source said. “He was fixated.

“He seemed fine though. You would never tell his marriage had just collapsed.”

Hall and Carpenter — who play brother and sister Dexter and Deb Morgan in Dexter -– separated some time ago and are now starting proceedings to legally end their union.

“Having been separated for some time, Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C Hall have filed for divorce,” their reps said.

The couple — who married almost two years ago on New Year’s Eve — did not give a reason for their separation but insist it is an amicable split.

However, insiders on the set of Dexter told Access Hollywood that the pair had been squabbling for some time, with the 39-year-old actor — who successfully battled cancer earlier this year — speaking at length about their problems.

Despite the claims, Michael has previously insisted his relationship with Jennifer, 31, did not affect their work.

“We certainly pride ourselves in being professionals,” he said. “We work on the same show but we’re not in every scene together. We don’t see each other on set as often as you’d think.”

Michael was previously married to theater actress Amy Spanger for five years until 2006.

You should not presume anything from that article. It's a typical tabloid article.

No different from when The Sun makes up a transfer rumour based on a recent event.

It'd be more interesting if it wasn't an amicable split, season 6 could be something like this.

Just finished Season 4. I seriously can't get enough of this show although I can't see how it can continue to develop after this season without it becoming repetitive. I hope Season 5 proves me wrong though.

Never quite liked Rita but I can't believe she dies.

Dexter must pay his nanny fecking megabucks for her to be willing to go to off to Florida, organise a birthday party etc.

I just finished watching the last episode and now I feel so empty and bored.

Does anybody have a suggestion for another television series that I can watch?

I know I am going to be slaughtered for saying this but I couldn't really get into The Wire. I watched about 4-5 episodes and it just didn't seem appealing to me.

Maybe I should give it another go.

I guess we should carry on Wire discussion in the other thread, but stick with it man, the pay-off is immense.

Yeah that's one thing I've always found pretty funny in the series, he seems to have endless supplies of cash at his disposal. I'm sure his rather unique job pays good money, but that's a bit excessive.

Then again, in most shows like this the principal characters always seem to have endless money supplies at their disposal.

What besides the boat would you say suggests that he has endless supplies of cash at his disposal?

I guess they would explain that easily saying that he has a good job, had no real family (until recently) or hobbies(:smirk:) to spend his money on. Might have come into a fair bit of money from Harry's inheritance as well. Who knows?

I was the same, it wasnt until towards the end of seaon 2 before I realised its brilliance.

Considering that he can just walk in and out of Miami Metro as he pleases, no questions asked, Dex really has the best job ever.

Full time nanny for his kid.
Owning both the house, boat and apartment.
Paying for Lumen to live.

Rita never had a job either as I recall (when they got married), which means at one point he was paying for her, the 3 kids, and he had the boat, big car, apartment and house.

EDIT: Even this season, he just hired a lovely room in a hotel for 2 nights so he could nab Cole, I'm sure that was expensive.

He also pay 500 dollars or something like that in the motel Lumen stayed at just to get her contact details!

Anyway, it's not exactly an important part of the plot, it's just something that's always seemed to exist in order to help things along. There has never been any mention of Dexter struggling with money, as I recall.

Yep, I guess you do have a point there. It does seem to add up.

And what WP said about him not spending ANY time in the office, this season especially. I guess the writing is not as tight as it used to be in previous seasons. I guess the reasoning would be that he's taking advantage of the fact that people are sympathetic
since his wife was brutally murdered
and needs some time off.

That's a ruddy understatement! The writing was woeful at times this season, as I've expressed repeatedly, much to the annoyance of hardcore fans who seem blinded by their undying love for the show :)

I didn't have a problem with the time off thing anyway, that was fair enough, and when it was urgent he did go to the crime scenes to help them.

I don't think anyone will deny that the writing is not as good as season's 1 and 4. They have taken too many easy cop-outs (especially with the finale) and the entire Laguerta-Angel storyline really is dragging the series down. But even with all the loop holes and other minor problems, its still very enjoyable and better than most other shows on telly.

Well, we have a few explanations. He and Deb would be the beneficiaries of Harry's estate and life insurance plan, so that's a bit of cash.

Plus
Rita's death would have paid out a lot, probably triple the benefit due to accidental death. I'm working on the assumption that his job's group benefits plan would have provided some option for insuring his spouse's life.
and then finally we have, as you mention his job at Miami Metro Homicide which undoubtedly pays very well.

Plus his double income with debs
and paid holiday leave. Add to that the possible will and pension of Harry, that he owns a boat as well as 2 homes in Miami in very nice districts, it's quite obvious they're rolling in it.
. My main problem is how on TV there seems to be 48 hours in the day.

Wow. I can't believe you guys are debating the income and wealth of a fictional character in a TV series.

Yeah honestly, what the feck. Who gives a shit. Jack Bauer never slept or took a shit but he managed throughout 24 hours of real time.

Weak, predictable, formulaic and at times a chore to get to the end of the episode. A big disappointment after the high of season four. The writing and sub plots were plain boring. The puns/jokes are terrible.....

'These kids eh? They'd drive you to homicide'
Followed by a wry smile by Dexter...

This kind of ridiculous reference to murder or the plot happens every episode! What's the point in crowbarring this joke in all the time even if it doesn't make any sense! We get it he's a murderer, how ironic!

For any one who thinks this show has great writing or great dark humour rent the fecking Sopranos.

Disappointing overall.
