Television Dexter

Anyone want to hear a crazy, yet actually quite plausible theory on the ending and leading into next season? A guy posted it on another forum. This does NOT contain spoilers, it's pure theory.

I think it's the police Chief, the guy that wanted to fire LaGeurta and Angel.

Something about him doesn't seem right, he also had one of those "tv faces" after Deb left him that implies he knows a lot more about Dexter than previously thought.

Personally speaking, it was he, along with Harry, that decided Miami is overrun with scum and normal police work cannot sort out the mess.
So when they found Dexter they decided that they'd mould him into a serial killer that targets the city's vile muderers.
So dex grows up and everything works great. However the police chief(what's his name again) has noticed that dexter's admirable work has gotten sloppy of late. The reason? Rita.

So he kills her. Maybe not him personally but one of his minions. He kills her in the manner of the Trinity so as to have Rita's murder open and shut.
Now Dexter can return to be the efficent killer he once was.

But that's not all. He knows Dexter won't be around forever. So he leaves Harrison in exactly the same bloody situation as young Dex. It would have been impossible for Arthur Mitchell to know the circumstances of Dex's mother's death.
The reason? So Harrison can fit snugly into Dex's shoes when the time is right.

I thought something similar while watching the episode, whether he has known all along or whether he started watching Dexter after the ice truck killer I'm not sure but it did seem to tease that he knew more.

Hopefully it won't go down the him being in on it at the start and killing Rita though as that whole conspiracy thing just seems too much like flashforward/lost teritory for my liking.

As others have said a brilliant finale from probably the best thing on TV at the moment. Sad to see Rita leave as I quite liked the way he was juggling his wife and hobby but it really pushes the show along to its final climax, hom many more seasons are we likely to get? Hopefully they haven't shot there load too soon in taking him darker but with what has come previously I have faith.

Loved it when he slammed down the bonnet on Arthur and said "hello Arthur Mitchell"

I'm going to need something to fill the void before this starts again now.

Best bloody show on TV...its absolutely brilliant. Pisses all over Lost/Heroes etc IMO..

A rather weird finish to a fantastic season, I'm glad they finally decided to get rid of Rita.
I don't understand all the theories about who killed her, it's obviously A.Mitchell.I was kinda disappointed the way they wrapped it all up, it seemed a bit hush hush.Mitchell was a great character played by a very talented actor.I wonder where did Dexter come from when his car stopped ? Like a ghost he attacked him

I was torn between this and House for TV Show of the Year, that last couple of minutes was TV's equivalent of the 1999 European Cup Final.

I assumed he was hiding in the trunk

Ah yes! I should have known

Pretty sure he was following him, waiting for the car to stop - there definitely seemed to be headlights in the fog behind Mitchell's car when it stopped.

Holy shit.... did not see that coming. Wow.

Stunning ending but I'm left kinda sad Rita dying the way she did, I still liked her and what with her having 3 young children and that. Sets up Dexter for next season amazingly though. Brave decision by the writers.

Fantastic season adding to what is a phenomenal show.

fecking hell... haven't been this shocked by an ending since the S3 finale of Lost.

Finally i can now watch this, expect my 'that was brilliant , a total shock etc' post in the next 90 minutes

actually i was thinking the final was quite disappointing so i really should have guessed something was coming --- and when it did OH MY GOD!

what brilliant acting - michael c hall is immense, i haven't seen 6 feet under, but i imagine he was brilliant in that too.

I expect you'll really like some of the scenes with him and the cop.

Very brave by the writers, but it makes sense they took away his salvation. As for the police chief i think he does know about Dexter but isn't involved in any murder. The whole series has just had new live breathed into it, it also allows them to do another investigation around Dexter series, I once again was right though but once again got the wrong person. Simply stunning show. How it's not a huge hit and shown on British telly straight away whilst dross like Heros constantly gets aired is beyond me.

Maybe one of the biggest surprises in any series I've watched. I always thought the Sopranos and The Wire had the biggest balls when it came to killing of main characters but Dexter really outdone itself here.

Maybe one of the biggest surprises in any series I've watched. The sheer brutality of it is possibly more than anything I saw in Sopranos or Wire, and they would kill off characters any time any place.

Yet do it with an emotional impact that a lot of shows are lacking.

I kind of like the face its not broadcast on tv. Makes it feel more 'underground' and personal.

If you've not seen it I can recomend Breaking Bad. It takes a few episodes to relly get going, but very good once it does. Still it aint Dexter.

Yeah I remember being hit pretty hard by some of the deaths in those shows, but I think the thing that's making this once stand out so much is that not only was she a main character and incredibly important to Dexter, but she was a genuinely nice person and a mum. In The Wire and Sopranos you get the feeling a lot of them have it coming, but Rita really didn't.

When I think of the way a show like "The Shield" ended (total chaos in the main character and his friends' lives. It was a depressing ending) I really wonder how they'll close this series, it'll be immense because with the way they ended this season they have left themselves plenty possible directions

Holy Shit.

I felt so bad for Dexter! :( I got well involved at the end thinking that Dexter would of made a huge mess of Trinity if he got another chance to kill him. Great Twist

Shiiiit complete accident. corrected it now hopefully not a lot of damage done. REALLY REALLY Sorry if I have fecked it for anyone.

On the other hand just a quick note

Wouldnt the likes of Batista remember seeing Trinity talking to Dexter in the Police department?

so if trinity knew about dexter's past - how on earth did he find out?
also - the police chief knowing about dexter's upbringing seems to have thrown debra off the scent - the scene where dexter thought she'd rumbled him was over too quickly - must be more to come from that.
plus - does dexter have an alibi for rita's killing?
now i can't wait for the next series

It could be explained away easily as to why Dexters wife was chosen as his next victim. Remember Dexter said I'm sorry sir but you have the wrong floor.

Since when did Trinity know about Dexters past? Yes he thought she was in the florida keys but i'm sure all that will be fully explored in the next series.

maybe i'm putting two and two together to make six, but why leave the baby in the blood like that? he doesn't mind killing children

Young boys of a certain age, the next in his cycle was a bath victim. He's never killed a baby before.

i know - i'm probably reading too much into it - just that the scenes were so similar

Probably done by coincidence by Trinity but on purpose by the writers. Dexter picking up Harrison and walking away from the bathroom with him was like Harry taking Dexter away from the shipping container too.

Poor Astor and Cody though, still it will allow the writers now to follow some of the books ideas.

Can't wait to see the reactions from the likes of Deb and the rest of Miami Metro, and obviously Dexter himself. He could actually be under investigation for the only crime he didn't commit.

As i said it allows them to do another Dexter under the eyes of the cops, I reckon 1 already knows (chief) and 1 will find out but protect him.
The fall out from this season is huge.
