Gaming Destiny | Rise of Iron launch

I thought it was going the other way. Usually well reviewed games gets an army of haters but I thought in general gamers were loving destiny and thought it should have reviewed far better
Yeah but this is the gaf...

Been on the gaf review thread... jesus.

Bungie may have let a few people down but reading that thread you'd think they set gaming back a decade while reintroducing smallpox to the general population... uuugh.

Also, people arguing that the 'loot cave' is more beneficial than doing strikes/crucible/etc... probably should stop playing this game. What are you grinding for? What do you hope to achieve? are you enjoying yourself? Better yet... is it actually working out for you?

haha yeah you'd think this game was the biggest pile of broken shit ever to be released and then hacks you bank account the way some (lots) of them get on.

The cave has been good to me I'd say, but after an hour or so of it on each of the past 3 days (whilst also mixing it up with some crucible/strikes) I agree it's time to call it a day, the only reason I went back yesterday was I hadn't got a new helmet out of it so far and fancied one but got bored after a while and once I got a new pulse rifle thought my time was well spent & I went on my merry way.

I think now im properly equipped now to do a good run of crucible matches so ill give that a good blast with the strikes to try and get more motes of light & ascendant shards etc, I really want that cloak of the six coyotes or whatever ya call it from the Speaker but think id be better off spending them on something that will actually benefit me and doesen't just look pretty... it is lovely though

@Laidback Levo and @Damien helped me farm the cave last night. Got me from level 16 to 19 in like an hour and a half or something.

Although Damo, you didn't have to stick with me as long as you did. I'm sure it was super boring for you  i do appreciate the help though chaps!

I got two legendary engrams from it! That session last night was probably the best session I've had at the cave. Didn't mind at all. Just kept popping off now and then to get engrams decoded.

Awesome!

Yeah i assumed you were nipping off to see what goodies you'd bagged.

I've always been a grinder when a game has really caught my attention and Destiny does that. These weapons are almost like collectibles and I like collectibles. I like having good stats in anything I do and Destiny caters to that aspect of my personality as well.

I can see me rotating between engram grinding, Crucible games and looking forward to DLC for quite some time.

Was trying to get enough experience to unlock an ability for my sunsinger class. Still haven't managed to yet but I'm so close. Surprised you stuck at it as long as you did, especially when alone as it can be a bit of a pain at times when you miss an enemy or two and they spread far and wide.

I got 4 legendary engrams last night, about 10 blues and about 50 greens. Was smashing the cave for about 1.5 hours. They were the first legendaries that dropped for me in the game, when I decrypted them I got 2 rare crap and two legendary warlock armour. I'm a fecking TITAN!! So frustrating..

Hit me up when you plan on doing so ;)

See... now thats a good answer to my question, I can't relate as I find it incredibly boring and unproductive now... but I understand your point of view.

Yeah i was very lucky that when i was on my own i managed to get them all before they got out, most of the time anyway

Not sure, how do you know if weapons are afilliated with a certain group? unless you bought it from them, in that case mine was just one I luckily picked up from the loot cave:

It says in the description if it is. Yours looks quality, don't think it's a faction one though. Mine is New Monarchy but I got it from the crucible, just so happened to be part of that faction anyway so I was happy with that.

I actually think all guns are viable, you just need a good one and to know how to use them... I've seen top players using hand cannons and snipers, depends on the maps too of course but you just know they have great weapons with great specs/upgrades....

I have that, is it good for PvP then? I've still been using my rare one with massive impact... I have a legendary fusion rifle that I've been favouring tho (Wizzard 77 I think).
Perhaps, though auto rifles are so much better than any other primary that it'd be strange to rely on anything else. I use a hand cannon, but that's because I use my shotgun most of the time and can get a couple of quick shots away if anyone's out of range.

I kind of agree, but that's based on my own experience... but if you have a scout rifle that you can tweak to medium range and it drops people quicker with no recoil, then it's better IMO.
It all depends on what guns you happen to have. That guy that was smashing it with a hand cannon probably had a beast of a hand cannon that was better than any autorifle that he owned... I doubt he thought 'Let me just smash these fcukers with my hand cannon for the lolz'. Or maybe he did, either way... it was fcuking viable in his hands.

When you do one of those bounties apparently you get a chance to do a mission and get some gear from that - legendary from what I've seen.

Shame the Warlock helmet looks like the regular ones :(

Might be a good way to nab some good engrams. Apparently after you do one of her bounties, a mission opens up that...
Gah...beaten to the post...

The reactions to this game for me are a new high water mark in idiocy regarding game reviews. Destiny is fun as shit. It's got a ton of content. The gameplay is superb and the social element is well thought out. It's not going to appeal to everyone, but then that can be said for every single thing that exists. There seems to be a massive disconnect between how much people enjoy a game, and what they rate it as. How many of those who give call of duty or gta5 a 0 or 1 on metacritic played those games for hours on end? I'll wager most of them. How many neogaf posters wrote essays painting ubisoft as morally reprehensible for the watchdogs demo, then bought and beat that game?

Just like every other major release, Destiny was put up on a pedestal and expected to be the best game ever, start of a glorious new era in entertainment and the cure for cancer. It's been put on that pedestal by the same people who are now castigating it for not being those things. There's an odd and troublingly numerous group of people out there who enjoy the cycle of building something up and then vociferously tearing it down far more than they enjoy the actual game (or whatever the subject of their ire is).

It's an extremely odd phenomenon and one I've decided to simply ignore.

So I'm pretty late to the party but can anyone give a fairly basic rundown of this game?

If you have hopes of sci-fi's next epic shooter, you will be let down. It's story is abysmal and quite simple gash.
Gameplay is fun and the shooting is great. And it's also a lot of fun doing strikes with fellow Caf members!

I'll have to check about the missions when I get in, traded both my bounties in an then left for work so I'll see if anything new has popped up.

Holy crap guys, do the Queen bounties. Each one you do, opens up a story mission, do the mission and you get guaranteed legendary gear. Then just dismantle it to get the shards. I've racked up about 10 shards today, which is more than I've had the past week. If those bounties refresh each day, I should be able to get to level 29 in a few days. I'm not sure that this is what Bungie intended, the reward seems too generous.

What's the story mission like? Easy enough?
Here's the best thing, it rotates between about 3 or 4 missions. You want to do the one set on earth, it's piss easy to do solo. If it doesn't come up, abandon the mission and load it up again. Just keep doing it until the earth one comes up.

are the story missions easy? Like at level 20 are they doable?

Well, i'm going to hit 20 later tonight when i get to play so these Queen's bounties look like a decent way to gear up fairly quickly. Although i might have to pressgang one or two of you into helping me do the mission

Feck me I just tried to do one of those queen missions on Mars and I got blown to pieces :(

Shame it doesn't matchmake those missions on the left like the queen one today. I don't have people to do them with or the raid!

Also I've had a few legendary engrams now but they all turn blue.

The cryptoarch guy is a bastard.

Anybody want to do the queen mission together?
