Gaming Destiny | Rise of Iron launch

Yeah, that's somewhat disappointing.

I know that expansions were going to be a big part of it, but I still expected a huge base game.

Yeah, but after you hit 20 you'll still have to level up all your abilities, much like in the beta. And there are going to be 3 sub classes I think.

Yh but since I don't like the PVP I'll likely have to just keep playing the same raids/strikes/missions over and over.. or buy all the DLC.

So what's everyone's favourite class so far? Haven't been able to play the beta as I don't have my PS4 with me. I set my sights on the Warlock before the Alpha/Beta and having watched some Twitch streams as well as YouTube videos I haven't been disappointed. Might be different once I try it out for myself though.

I've only used Warlock so far. Have you seen this piece of armour for Warlocks?

Beautiful.

Ye I think it is. I played the moon mission last night, was pretty decent I thought. Also there was another map in the multiplayer I had a go on. Not sure what to think of the crucible stuff it doesn't run very smooth at the moment but I expect them to make changes. Some of my shots take a while to register or sometimes don't even register at all. I don't like the way they have the vehicles on the moon map either they should scrap them or just have a couple of the big tanks that spawn into the game at some point. There are too many right at the start of the game imo.

Any idea what the full game reward they were giving out yesterday was? I saw it mentioned in alerts over the last few days but my gf was round all day and I couldn't find any time to sneak off and sign in.

Just reached level 8, managed to do the devils lair on hard with a couple of randoms. Took nearly an hour trying to down that spider robot thing. Looks a cracking game, had one bash at the crucible didn't really like it as it was too fecking hectic. Looking forward to the 9th September

I found it too hectic too! Glad I'm not the only one, you get no time at all, not even enough time to change your weapon. I didn't really enjoy it.

@Damien did you get that? I did the moon mission but I got nothing for it, seems a bit odd.

Beautiful.
That looks fantastic. Too bad I won't be able to get it. Love me some cosmetic armour like that.

Did you manage to get to 15 to try out the Sunsinger tree? Think I may go for that one on release, though I still need to do a little more research before I decide.

So, is this the game worth getting a next gen console for?

Know I'm a bit late but just read there's only one area per planet!? So we've played over a quarter of the game in the Beta? I thought the game was a lot bigger than that? I'm guessing the Planets will be Earth, Moon, Venus, Mars?

That is what they have said, one area per planet. It's put me off buying it to be honest, I knew it was going to be DLC'd but that doesn't feel like enough content for a base game. I think I might wait and see, I wanted it to be a massive world that will keep me going for 50-60 hours, now it feels like a ton less and a heavy reliance on PvP which I'm not that into.

If anyone wants to see the plants then check this out:

Yep. Feels like no more than 20hr game without redoing shit constantly. I loved the character building, but I thought we'd only got a very small slither of the game.. I hated the pvp and it didn't engage me in the story.

I really loved it for the most part too but I have another games to buy without game budgets going on DLC. If the Earths content was typical of what a £15+ DLC is then I doubt I'd be prepared to get behind it.

I thought this might be the game that convinced me expansions could be worth it.

There's lots of repeatable content though, at level 20 there's raids and PvP that people will be doing to gear up. There's a ton of different factions that have various gear and mounts, hitting lvl 20 is just the tip of the iceberg for me.

The iron banner was also an example of how Bungie will add events to the game as well, no doubt there will be pve content added like the pvp event we played in beta.

I've not put a huge amount of time into this, but I'm currently a Level 5 hunter.

I went into the Crucible, and largely got my ass kicked, probably as every player was a level 8 and I was level 4/5 at first. Well either that, or i'm just not that good!

One quick thing though - what is the best way to get alternative weapons? I've got an assault rifle and a sniper rifle, and I found that the sniper rifle was of little value in the crucible. A shotgun or something with more power would have been far better.

PvP isn't as bad as you lot make out. I quite liked it. And the vehicles are fine, once you get in the tank and start dominating a round you'll come around trust me... just don't run around in the open like an idiot. Play smart and the vehicles aren't much hassle. Anyway, it seems that you either love it or hate it...

I don't think it's bad at all. I did have some problems with bullets registering and I've seen plenty of video's online of similar stuff but it is a beta after all. I don't like the vehicles how they are right now on the moon. There should only be two tanks which shouldn't appear until later in the game and no Sparrows. At the moment the start of every game is a rush for vehicles which really isn't the point.

It's not bad, I just thought it boring and uninspired so far. It doesn't offer gameplay that you can't get elsewhere done better, quicker and with fun mechanics. It's not very skillful, it doesn't take tactics or strategy.

Largely, whoever sees the other person first will kill the other person before they have time to react. Unless you camp in a corner then you'll have blindspots and die through no real fault of your own just unlucky timing. Atleast on Titanfall you can use parkour to keep out of reach, and COD is less open with more buildings/smaller areas with more chance at covering yourself decently.

It didn't need to be Halo, but after they created a close to arena shooter with map choke points, power areas, strategy and intense gunplay where 1v1s can last/turn then I expected better.

Sorry but, what does it offer? What unique does it bring to the table?

Fair play if you like it, I honestly really wanted to as I'm a huge fan of Bungie and love the PVE. I thought this could help evolve multiplayer too, but instead it's a floaty COD clone (so Crysis)

Methinks you were either expecting too much, weird as you seemed to have made your mind up weeks ago anyway... as for me, I'm fine with it. I had no expectations from the PvP portion so I ended up being pleasantly surprised, and the PvE is as good as I hoped it would be. Now we sit tight and wait for the finished product...

I expected too much but made up my mind weeks ago? You told me that playing it would make me realise it's not COD it's Halo but I'm sorry - it really isn't. Arguably I went into the beta with low expectations as I started to get these concerns after watching videos I while back.

Expecting the studio with the multiplayer pedigree of Bungie to produce something better than a sci-fi slower paced COD that (seemingly) doesn't bring anything new to the table? Yep, I expected more, but I don't see how that's an issue.

It'd be like Naughty Dog producing a 7/10 standard solid game and people complaining, and others telling them they expected too much. I had expectations for the PvE and they delivered, why shouldn't I have high expectations for their multiplayer?

What can I say, you didn't like it... don't play that portion of it. A lot of people do like it though, and a lot of people feel that it plays like Halo (Gaf). It's a solid attempt, I reckon it's got more legs than Titanfall...

Probably, but only because it helps to level up your single player character and gets them loot etc. That doesn't make it better than Titanfall though, which atleast brought some new features/mechanics, and actually takes some skill.

If it didn't contribute to your character outside of PvP, there'd be no reason for it to last longer.

If you want to tell me how it plays like Halo, then please do. To me, the fact that you can jump high (like Crysis/Titanfall) and it has a sci-fi style are really the only similarities.

Titanfall has fallen off a cliff it seems... at this point I'm not even anticipating the eventual release of Titanfall 2. There wasn't enough to the overall package, and I can't see that changing... Let's see...

That's odd. I have never had a problem getting into a full lobby.

Destinys PvE being good shouldn't really be a defense toward criticism of it's multiplayer. That's weird.

If you're going to defend it, defend it on it's own merits - something you've been unable to do. Titanfall brought lots of fun features and new mechanisms to the party, it took what COD had and added some nice changes which help to make it feel fresh, and can actually take some skill. Destiny has put a coat of sci-fi paint on COD, made it slower and less smooth, and made it more open (more likely to get dicked by someone without having chance to respond) - it's redeeming feature seems to be that you can get rewards for the good PvE side of the game.

What did Titanfall bring? Wall running and Mechs? Revolutionary...
What is Destiny bringing? A campaign for a start, and options for those that don't want to PvP, anyway...
You didn't like the singular mode of Crucible (PvP) that was available in the Destiny beta, I'm just putting it to you that others did...

I believe you, no need to get defensive. There were people complaining about that very issue a while back, on the gaf I think... do you not have issues finding full lobbies on some of the game modes?

That wasn't me being defensive, you fruit. I didn't even call you a childish name.

I only play Marked for Death and Attrition. No issues getting a game in either. Sounds like you have been reading the same crap on GAF that I have.

The PC version may have experienced a drop off, though.

Wall running and mechs do add whole new dynamics to that sort of multiplayer which no one else does.. So yeah, it's far more revolutionary than 'bringing a campaign and allowing for people who don't play PvP'.

Anyway, have you listened to our podcast yet? You can hear my beautiful voice.
