Gaming Destiny | Rise of Iron launch

Just pre-ordered my white PS4 bundle. Oh man

it's not so much a podcast as an hour of fuzz

How did you listen to it? It's quiet through my laptops speakers but through headphones I thought it was alright, with voices clear enough for the most part. Needs improving but I'm surprised you found it that bad.

Erm... my mind is having trouble reconciling that with my mental image of you. Where's the link?

There's a picture of me in the OP I just linked Lance too. So you can have the real image, and hear my voice too. I'll sing on the next episode for ya.

To be fair, that's not how I pictured you... I don't really do podcasts, but for you, I probably won't do this one either... possibly

If you imagined me looking about 12, there's one here of my kid sister looking older than me.

So, Destiny.. I didn't play the moon, I really want to go and watch the gameplay of it and see how it looks.. but I don't know if I should spoil another area.

I'll probably do the whole game on hard.. the beta on hard was pretty easy for the most part, with a few tricky bits but as long as you have atleast 2 players who are working together then it's more than manageable.

i'm only messing, it was grand!

To counter balance that, I thought it was shit.

I haven't listened to it.

@Duafc has the most Norn Iron accent I have ever heard

 Literally have a quite posh non accent for N.I. Which says it all for how horrific our accent is.

Just seen the white text ffs.

On Topic - After a brief jaunt around I thought Destiny was very good - a bit repetitive but it's a nerfed demo so dunno how much to read into that.

Ohhh yeaaaah, a hook from the white text. Haven't had one of those for a while.

I didn't do the Moon, partially because I was smashed and partially because I didn't want to spoil any more...

I never got around to playing the BETA.

Played the Alpha for about 10 mins. Im still not sure what the game is about. It is RPG similar to Mass Effect or more like Halo?

Is it more of a multi player game?

Yeah, probably should have played a bit longer Flanders... it's an MMO lite...

You bastard!

My ranting on this page about the multiplayer shouldn't take away from how good the campaign experience is. I did some areas alone, but it's much better with other people I thought. You don't need to chat though, and I did one mission with a random who was doing it solo too.

Maxed two characters, and got the other to level 6.. if you're playing on hard then it feels less repetitive as there is challenge, and you have to tackle the AI a little differently.. on normal you just spray them constantly and don't need to move pretty much.

Nothing to suggest that there is gonna be an engaging story, and I'm concerned it's not going to be as long and grand as I first thought, but there is still a really good chance it's going to be GOTY.

The 6 player raids that are meant to be extremely difficult and take an hour or 2 to do.. you can't matchmake, you have to do them with friends only.

Getting 6 friends online, all on Destiny, and all wanting to do the same raid and be able to stick around for 2 hours is going to be stupidly hard.

I assume the game will have 'guilds' or whatever the equivalent is though, that focus on stuff like that.

Maybe, there was none of that in the beta and I haven't seen it mentioned. Since it's making moves towards the MMO sphere though you'd hope so.

Otherwise I'm gonna have to be asking people on here and sign up to some other forums which would be annoying.

Nothing wrong with that.

I'd say there has to be a guild system, it'd be silly otherwise.

There isn't, but I'm not sure it'll be easy to even get 6 people through Redcafe on the bone who are playing it. On PS4 it'd be pretty easy I imagine.

I'm sure there isn't now but there surely will be. An MMO without guilds of some sort would be silliness, really. Especially if they are planning that raid system.

Probably.. Halo and stuff had Bungie.net clans though didn't it? And nothing really happened with them.

Is there's a hub on the game for all that sort of stuff or is it just over the web? It helps I guess, but I dunno with the consoles having more casual gamers, it's still a weird one that they're gonna have to actively search for clans with randoms and then ask if people want to do raids.

I guess they feel it's necessary though, and that they'd be too difficult with just random people in matchmaking who don't give a shit and will leave halfway through.

Nope, beta was lacking wrt Clan options/chat/etc. Maybe it will be in the full game?

So how is he level 29? Is that through gear and stuff I thought the cap was 20??

It still says his level is 20 in the Inventory bit, so I dunno. You level up through weapons/armour?

Theres a few good IGN videos at the moment... I want this game

The budget for it is, I don't know if the money that went into developing was but it's definitely up there.

Yea, but on the flipside repeatedly trying to pug the raids (which are s'posed to be incredibly difficult and require a lot of cordination) is probably not the experience that Bungie are trying to promote.... I doubt it will be that hard to find a group, and you wont be lasting for the full length of the raid until you are highly geared, at first it will be lambs to the slaughter no doubt (visions of raids gone bad flashing through my mind lol), 30mins to an hour maybe...

I definitely think that finding people on the net/in forums or being in a good clan/guild is going to produce a better experience with a higher % chance of success concerning the raids, but it seems unnecessary to force people to go outside the game to find 5 people who are able to do a particular raid with you. It's just not what we're use to anymore, and it's strange for the option to not be there. I've found people in games to be useless, but I've found randomers in games to be incredibly helpful and co-operative too, it's luck of the draw. They could even have a rating system to put people off acting like twats in these co-op situations, a DNF % (did not finish) or a thumbs up rating or something.. that way you could see who you were working with from the off and choose whether to invite them to your fire team or not. That probably brings up other issues mind, but it's definitely one way of doing it.

If they manage to have an easy in-game way of finding friends to do this stuff with then fair enough. I'm not sure they will though.. I'm still gonna nail the PvE side of things, but finding a good clan is gonna be necessary for the end game stuff it seems.

As is the case with basically any MMO, and from the sound of things, they're really going MMO on this.

I actually love the fact that there's going to be hardcore group PvE content, I've done it plenty before, and six players isn't a lot, but they really, really need to implement clans or guilds of some kind otherwise it's just ridiculous.

Yeah the lack of chat in the tower is a bit shite... would be easy to find groups in there. Of course then you'll have the usually attention seekers clogging up the chat soooo...

I don't know how it's going to work if say you need 1 more player but can't find them in your friends list or friends friends list or the caf/etc...

They need to implement some in game functionality for this too, I don't know if they will though... but yeah, the hardcore content option sounds great. Raids are the one thing I miss from MMOs... MMOs just take up too much time though, so I steer clear nowadays.
