You must be missing spurs matches. That second season syndrome is looking like a thing of the past, hes scored 5 goals in the past 3 matches. He has 8 goals at a rate of a goal every 170 mins. He has a goal contribution every 136 mins. All that forgetting that only now is he being played as a second striker and he's flourishing in the role. As for Muller's movement being miles ahead that's just ridiculous. Muller's movement is miles ahead of Martial's not someone like Alli's.

It's not ridiculous if you see Muller more regularly. The guy has become a world class player based primarily on his movement and finishing abilities. Delle Alli is not even close to that level. He is a good young player but his hype is beyond belief. His 5 goals in 3 matches does not mean the remaining 15 odd matches didn't happen where he looked all over the place. Against us he was practically invisible throughout the game. He has hit a rich vein and suddenly he is the English Muller.
 
He's a huge talent, that seems clear. He does look a bit like a flat truck bully for me, watch him go invisible vs Chelsea again. He's sich a player that doesnt take the game by scruff, and makes a show out of it and dominating play, but he rather picks his moment very wisely and effectively, his decision making is very good. But vs tough opponents and teams where you dont dominate or dont create much, he'll struggle a lot. That can obviously change soon as he's just 20(?), Spurs have a gem on their hands.

Tremendous potential.

What is amazing is that he has reached a PL goals milestone in much fewer games than Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard. That's some achievement.

And it is also amazing that Spurs were able to sign him on the cheap from a lower league club. Whoever did the scouting on this deal deserves kudos. It was a great spot.

We should look seriously at signing him. His development will certainly accelerate at UTD with Mourinho as his coach. He could become our new Paul Scholes. His first team opportunities will be limited initially but I am sure he would get plenty of minutes. He could potentially form part of a new spine for our team.

He would have been a liverpool player, except Ayre thought it was cool to offer him 3000 a week.

Then he signed for spurs instead.

I think what he showed was fatigue, which given the circumstances is completely understandable.

He only joined Spurs 18 months ago and his achievements in those 18 months are outstanding. He has a long way to go to be a world class player but the last year and a half would have him moving in the right direction.
 
I rate him, but we have no use for him. We already have a superior all action 8/10 hybrid who could decide the game in the final third, one that's even better at the defensive aspect of the game and who's sensational at bringing the ball from one box to the other.

I do like his game though and if he does leave Spurs, I hope he moves to Spain or even Italy. Alli - Kovacic in front of a DLP could be a tasty duo for Madrid for the next 10 years.

Mourinho doesn't develop players, he buys ones that have already been developed. Pochettino is amongst the managers who look to develop players.

He has nowhere near the passing ability/talent of Scholes, who was just a midfield maestro, I can see him becoming more like Lampard though. Excellent allround midfielder with a huge goalscoring threat and very composed in the final third.

We most definitely shouldn't. United needs to build a team that accentuates Pogba's strengths, and there'll be a severe overlap between their characteristics (especially in terms of watered down defensive responsibility and transitioning into the final third, leading to much of a muchness). Can't agree with the Scholes comparison, either - if anything, he's more like Gerrard or Lampard. Alli is perfect for Spurs - because they play to his strengths and he has the tactical freedom to influence games behind Kane, something he might not be afforded alongside Pogba (leading to another Gerrard-Lampard conundrum, where you can extract the best out of one player, but not both simultaneously, and there's a constant need to move other players around to shoehorn them instead of having a consistently fluid system). There's a bigger need to build a consistently good long term Mascherano/Alonso or Makélélé/Essien type system for Pogba to thrive in.

No crime there, and he doesn't play in the same position, Muller from what I've seen plays in a more advanced position whereas Alli usually occupies one of the 3 positions behind Kane and has more responsibilities than Muller. Yesterday for example he played alongside Eriksen in front of Wanyama but behind Son as well as Kane.

If he could get 13 or 14 PL goals this season from that position it would be an outstanding achievement.

Definitely no crime. Just that someone mentioned he is the English Thomas Muller and I feel it is really not even close. Muller is the definition of a world class forward while Alli is just an up and coming young player.

I think he's a bit more than just an up and coming young player, there are plenty of those in the PL and I think it's fair to say that Alli is the best of them with a chance to go on and be a top class player.

Whether he will or not remains to be seen.

Alli is not the best of them. That mantle goes to Martial. Players like Iheanacho can also stake a solid claim for it, not to forget the likes of Sterling as well. Alli is just one of many talented young guns in the league and all have a long way to go before they are considered established superstars.

Apologies I forgot that Martial plays for Utd and therefore had to take the mantle, just ahead of Rashford.
 
I love Martial, we can all see he has the talent to be as good as anyone however at this point in time Alli is the better player, he's delivering far more consistently for an arguably better team.
I wouldn't swap the two though
 
Alli is having a better season than Martial so far. I think their talent levels are similar. After watching Martial for a season I find him a little one dimensional, albeit very good in that way.

He has scored 9 goals in total so far this season for Spurs (8 in the league + 1 CL goal), which is only 1 shy of his total last season.

Being voted PFA Young Player of the Year last season and hitting 9 goals at the half-way point this season amounts to rather more than a "rich vein of form".

Martial, despite being off the boil, has had 5 goals in 18 appearances for us while Alli has had 9 in 24. Not to mention that 5 of Alli's goals came in the last 3 matches. So no, he is not having a better season so far. As for being one-dimensional, it is funny you say so when Martial has played as the center forward, wide right, wide left player for us all at pretty high standards.

Ask almost any football fan in the world (excluding Spurs/United fans) who'd they'd rather have out of Alli and Martial, and they'd all say Martial.

I didn't say he was a player just in rich vein of form. I am saying he has, like many before him, had a second season syndrome where they find it a little bit tougher. Same goes for Martial but that does not mean they are poor players. Young players always go through these rough levels where their standards drop a bit. Martial too had an amazing season last time around, better than Alli's yet you will get plenty on here who are ready to shoot him down.

They probably would, but they are very different players. Martial is a superstar that is going to score an extremely large amount of goals in the coming years. These players don't come about all that often.
 
Martial is anything but one dimensional, his dribbling at pace is incredible and he has both a decent shot and an eye for a pass as well. Just how easily do some people forget how good Martial was last season? He has been out of touch recently but the talent is there.

I think If anyone is being remotely objective it's hard to make a case for Martial having a better or even similar season to Alli.

I think you're absolutely right that Martial was stunning last year, and I think he has more top class talent/ability than Alli in the long run but he's been poor this year, for lots of reasons.

Could all change in the coming months of course, particularly if Martial plays like he did against Boro.

Alli has been pretty dire himself until 2-3 games back. His 5 goals in 3 games have suddenly padded his numbers but don't think the performances before them were any better than Martial's for us. Both have had poorer second seasons so far but Martial's injuries have also played a part in disrupting his rhythm. I think in 3-4 games, with us hitting our strides, Martial's numbers would also improve. As things stand, I don't see how anyone feels Alli has been better this season.
 
As a neutral - I'd rather have Alli right now. However I think Martial will become the better player (both will be great)

Alli has scored more goals and made more assists than Martial since both players entered the Prem 1.5 seasons ago, despite playing in CM for some of this time, but don't let these minor stats cloud your judgement.

However, Martial will potentially cost more than 10 times than Alli, so I guess the former must by definition be "easily more talented".
