Dejan Lovren

That performance against Tottenham was hardly the norm for him. He was slightly less impressive in the second half of the season than the first but for the right price I would still like us to sign him. I genuinely think we would be fine at CB if we went into next season with Evans, Lovren, Jones, Smalling and Michael Keane.

Liverpool transfer target Dejan Lovren admits his head is already at Anfield

The Southampton defender is angry and believes they have gone back on a deal to sell him for £20m - double what they paid for him a year ago

Liverpool target Dejan Lovren has blasted Southampton for trying to price him out of a dream move to Anfield.

Furious Lovren claims Saints have gone back on an agreement to sell him for £20million by rejecting two bids from the Reds.

The Croatia international, who has threatened to go on strike to force through the transfer, rapped: “Liverpool sent the offer and the club haven’t informed me. Not even about the subsequent Liverpool bids.

“That wasn’t right. I found out about the bid from other people which disappointed me and I realised I’ve got no business staying at Southampton.

“Liverpool sent a £20m offer and Southampton paid nine million for me, so they would’ve earned twice the amount.

“They are now looking for £25m, but I don’t think they’ll get it. At this point, I don’t know what I’ll do and I don’t like it.

“It was unbelievable that a few days ago I had an offer of £20m. It was in the morning and by the afternoon the club had said I was not for sale.

“Frankly, my head is already at Liverpool.”

Will there be any of the team from last season left. No wonder Pochettino jumped ship.

Really, really odd. They had such a good year last year too, could've built on it, instead it's been a fire sale.

Might put a bet on Koeman being the first to get sacked.

Has there ever been a side completed gutted in one transfer window before? 1st choice CB, LB, CM, LW & CF all sold in one summer?

Manager and influential chairman too. It's pretty much over for them (as far as progression goes) by the looks of it. Any chance of Europa League football in the near future is pretty much gone in my opinion. Money or no money.

On the one hand this guy is obviously a prick, not to mention the fact that he's a liability and barely worth half of what Liverpool offered.

But Southampton are well and truly fecked now. Any player there who receives interest from other clubs will want to leave.

What? Southampton supporters think he and Schneiderlin were their most crucial players. I was reading a Saints forum and they were saying that his only bad game of the season was against Spurs.

It must suck being a Southampton fan this summer.

Hard to know what they should do, really. If the try and spend all the money now there's every chance they'll go down anyway and end up flogging most of their acquisitions for less than half the price. Try and be thrifty and they'll almost certainly end up in the Championship with a lot of money and a shortage of quality players wanting to join.

I feel a bit sorry for them, their talented youth coaches are already being poached too.

They were on to a good thing but the overweight German woman doesn't inspire any confidence in running a football club and the lack of willingness to invest in the clubs future has cost them a great young manager and many talented players.

Definitely. At best, they might turn out to be like a solid mid table side. If they seriously wanted to challenge for Europe, you don't go and sell 1/2 your first team. And the better half of your 1st team at that.

I don't think it's about being 'serious'. The only one they may have had any control over was Pochettino, but even with him the chairman was a big factor.

There's pretty much nothing they could do to stop the players leaving (at least without it having a negative effect during the season.)
The chairman and fans may fully believe in the 'project', but players with short careers simply wont believe in it enough to decline lucrative offers from clubs at the top table.

Completely refuse to let a player go to a top club (let alone four or five players) and it'll only end one way eventually.

No but you're completely missing my point. If Pochettino (and in turn the chairman) was still there, these players wouldn't have wanted to leave. Lovren has said it, and AFAIK someone else did too. Point being, if the club as a whole was serious about sticking it out and not cashing in (which is what the owners have wanted to do, by the way), then they wouldn't have let anyone go, from chairman to manager to players.

Hope Lovren ends up in Liverpool, he's good defender, but not great one and prone to stupid errors from the first day of his professional career.

Not worth money they would be paying neither he's good enough, great scenario really!

Excluding a game against Spurs last year can you list any other errors he made?

Foul on Suarez (or Sturridge?) in the box which ref didn't see, otherwise it was clear penalty (match at Anfield).

Don't remember some other tbf, but he did have few in national team (Wales away).

Know him since his days in Dinamo shirt, good defender but prone to concentracion lapses which you'll find out when you sign him.

For me he's not better than any other Liverpool CB except Toure, but hey that's just my opinion.

Will be a very good signing for Liverpool. Now they can pair him with Sakho to balance out his lack of ability on the ball

He was well known for his brain farts but he hasnt had them in the NT for a while now and he was one of the few players who had a good WC. In my opinion anyway.

Overrated and overpriced.
When Borini is worth £14m I think buying a player with a good season behind him for similar money is about right. The market is nuts and inflated but that's the reality. These players are all going for massive dough.

Southampton are making a killing

That's true enough, but I don't really rate Lovren. Lallana for instance is overpriced as well but he's a very good player. I can't say the same for Lovren.

14m for Borini is an absolute joke so I guess it balances out for you guys.

The Borini deal isn't happening and I doubt anybody else apart from Sunderland are stupid enough to pay £14m for him.

Well wasn't it reported he turned them down and has since joined the Liverpool squad on tour? I could swear I read that unless it was bs.

Apparently having a medical at the weekend ahead of a £16m-£20m move to Liverpool.

That must bring Southampton's income from player sales to near £80m with interest in Schniederlin and Jay Rod to fend off before the end of the window. Has any Prem team ever been pulled apart this badly before?

It must suck being a Southampton fan this summer.

They've signed Pelle who by all accounts is a very decent Eredivisie striker (was 2nd top scorer and would've been top if not for peno's) as well as Tadic, an attacking midfielder who scored 16 goals in the Eredivisie last season and got 14 assists. Obviously Eredivisie isn't always the best way to judge quality but clearly two potentially very good players, especially Tadic and I'm sure more are on the way...

thanks to Liverpool signing Lovren for £20m & Lallana for £25m, and now Arsenal signing Chambers for £16m, Shaw at £27m looks like a bargain as he has potential to be much better than any of the others.
