Declan Rice

I remember the whole :
"England are the only side yet to concede a goal at Euro 2020, with no side facing fewer shots on target in the process (5). Indeed, England have restricted their opponents to a competition-low xG total of just 1.3. Measly."

For me this is what Rice does: he blocks off the central areas by being in the most dangerous areas before the opposition do.
I remember England is playing very defensive in Euro, with 6 defensive player, plus another 2 defensive-minded attacker on the starting line up though. So I am not sure you can credit this all on Rice.

I think Rice is the most attainable player who makes the biggest improvement to us.

I have been against us signing Rice due to fee and I wasn’t 100% convinced by him
But I’m starting to come round to the idea of signing him.
I think a player of his type is our most important signing over the next year or two.
If we can unearth another player from Europe who can be as good or better for less money then great.
If not then maybe we should throw in a cheeky bid of £60-£70 mil. It won’t get the job done but it might turn his head and allow us to get him for that sort of money the following year. Just like we did with Sancho

He doesn't really appear that attainable, given the length of his contract, and he was over-priced at 100m. Now they're talking 150m. We should run away from any deal like that... quite fast.

He’ll have 2 years left in the summer and he’s turning down renewal offers.

Yeah I know, they also have an option to extend for another year. West Ham aren't interested in selling and are quoting stupid money. I don't see him moving this year unless that price comes down a good bit.

Chelsea is still the most likely destination for him I think.

I wonder if Tuchel would play him in a back three replacing Rudiger as the guy to step out.

I think Rice would be the player making them move on from three at the back. If so, I guess you could say that he would replace Rudiger.

Hasn't he been on record to say that he doesn't want to play CB?

I love the idea of Rice back at Chelsea, but with the fees being bandied about, this is a nonstarter for us, or any club, for at least another 2 seasons.

We must try to sign this guy. Ive said for a long time he is perfect midfielder for us, at a good age, improving all the time and a proper leader.

He is worth 80-90mill in current market but will prob fetch 100mill. If chelsea get him then it is a major blow.

Would be a bit of a waste though surely? Considering he's pretty much an #8/6 hybrid now.

He has said that he wants to play midfield yes. @andersj made a good point in response to my post regarding his position.

It depends on what your new owners do I guess. He'll go for lower than the figures being banded about though I'm sure of that.

I can't see West Ham agreeing to sell him for less than 100m this summer, which is still an insane fee for him. He will end up going for lower but not this summer. When West Ham realise he'll never extended his contract with them, the longer they keep him the more his value decreases. There could be a deal to be had in 2023 I suppose.

Tuchel has dabbled in the back 4 system a few times. He could perhaps want to finally move away from the back 3. I think that could open up our attack in a good way.

I cant see him staying 2 seasons at west ham though so something has to give...

Might be one of the rare occasions a player plus cash deal could work... Ross Barkley and RLC for example?

I don't think they'd be particularly interested in our squad rotational players unless it's a proper valuable one like CHO or Gallagher, and I doubt Chelsea would be open to that.

If they win the EL, I think he'll want to stay at least one more season to play CL football with them.

We tried offerring players to the deal when we didn't really want to pay Sevilla's asking price for Kounde. We were chucking good players like Alonso and Zouma in there and it still didn't work. There's no chance Barkley and RLC will get West Ham juices flowing.

If they win the EL, he could play CL football then leave the season after, I think that’s the best case scenario for all parties.

yeah that might be enough to keep him... west ham must be worried that next summer he would only have 1 year left on his contract and about 4 months into the season he could sign for real / barca etc for nothing on a pre contract.

I think a cash up front offer and they might not hold out for as much as some of the numbers put about in the press.

Very defensive is an understatement. Back 5 at times, 2 DMs and a GK basically dedicated to defending. Utterly embarrassing stuff. Considering the abundance of attacking and creative players England have at the moment we played 8 defensively minded players most games. I'm not sure who is the worse manager honestly. Southgate or Ole.

There's a reason why no big club outside england is interested. He's not worth the fee west ham is asking. I hope we stay away.

No thanks. Another overrated english player with an astronomical transfer fee. I'm sure there are good players out there to be found, just like other clubs have been doing.

My thoughts exactly. Whatever he's worth, we'll have to pay double.

If Rice is leaving the Hammers, it won't be for us. We don't have the cash to spend that much on one player in a major rebuild, and we don't have the CL place to tempt him here. City, Chelsea (post Abramovich), Liverpool, Real are realistic contenders for him, not us.

Few reasons I'd imagine. If the top English clubs are interested, I think his choice would be those clubs anyway. English clubs will pay bigger wagers.

I don't think any English club is even interested at the price West Ham are quoting. At this point, I'd be very surprised if he's not at West Ham next season.

He's a top player and will surely love him at United but in the middle of a rebuild we can't pay that much just for one player. This also seems like it will turn into a saga that will last the whole summer, something we can't afford either.

Should be staying as far away from him as possible.

He's very good. But there's not a chance in hell that across all of world football there isn't a midfielder who could fill that same role and represent a better purchase than Rice does at that price. And we're not in the luxury position of not having to worry about the actual value we get from the money we spend over the coming transfer windows. If we ended up spending that much on him it would be a failure of recruitment.

Let Chelsea drop 80-100m on him if they want.

And I’m glad it won’t be for us. Why in Gods name do you even think Real Madrid will be after him? I mean the hype stops in England, no one outside of England rates him especially with a 150 million price tag. Keep hyping him. This English player hype is over the top.

Realistically he is probably worth about £60-65m.

Biggest transfers fees for CMs of all time are Pogba at £89m, FDJ £65m, Rodri at £63m. I think its being pretty charitable to Rice to say that he is on the same level as FDJ or Rodri were when sold.

You could grit your teeth and pay a tiny bit more due to the English tax, going to £70-75m. Paying £100m would be just insane.

Real need a midfield rebuild. And if you can't see how good Rice is, that's your problem.

A DM who's very good at screening the back line but is not good at dominating possession really is not worth that much in the modern game. We need a player better on the ball who can help dominate possession.

I'm sure players such as Tochuameni, Haaland, Gravenberch have offers from premier league teams, but that doesn't keep other big league teams from being interested.

Rice is a good player, but he's over hyped as feck in England. I agree with you, nobody will touch him for 150M. But if the price was anything about 60-70M no club from other league would anyway, it's the English tax were seeing on him.

That same tax that has made stupid teams like us pay 80M for a shit defender, 50M for a shit right back for example.

I just get the feeling that he will inevitably move to Chelsea. Not this year though with the money involved and Chelsea's issues, the only spanner in the works there would be whoever happens to be on the manager merry go round there in a year or so.

The only possible way I can see us signing him this summer for a massive fee is if we sell Jorginho to Juventus for a decent fee to partially fund it. And that’s only if West Ham would be willing to lower their price to around Jack Grealish levels rather than the £150m Moyes mentioned. Because nobody is going remotely close to that.

Just in terms of best fit Chelsea and United are the only ones who really make sense. City already have an expensive screener/recycler in Rodri. Them spending £100m on Rice who does the same thing would be silly as feck. Having 1 of those two sitting on the bench would be ridiculous. At Chelsea or United he walks right into the XI and plays every match.

If we didn’t have the uncertainty swirling around our ownership I’d say we’d be heavy favorites. But because of that I think he goes to United if you really push.

Of course but high profile English players tend to stay in England. We're seeing more young English players go abroad to kickstart their career. Given the money in the PL and the comfortability English players have in the league, I'd expect this to remain the case.
