Declan Rice

If Sir Jim gets control of the club we'll have to operate within a budget, which may force us out of the running for Rice if there really us a market price of 120m that someone else is willing to play. If the sheik gets control of the club I doubt he'll think twice about paying 120m for Rice, so long as ETH sanctions it. But if it is Sir Jim who holds the gavel at OT we'll have to look elsewhere for a midfielder of Rice's capabilities.

He may want to sanction bids but he will still have to work within FFP limits which will be tight for us this summer without major offloading

exactly the type of player we need to be avoiding. No more overspending for average english players. Can easily find someone similar to rice for half the amount west ham will want.

I think he's fantastic. How someone can call him average is beyond me. I think you need to be an English national-team-self-flagellator to hold that opinion

There is substantial amount who is still going after the Ole playbook of transfers... Kane, Rice. Won't be long until Pickford gets his mentions.

You talk like SAF didn't like to sign the best English players.

Even if you look recently, Arsenal have managed a title challenge aided by signing the likes of Ramsdale and White who most would turn their nose up to.

I would assume so, but I've seen multiple posts here -- yes, the caf is an online forum so a bag of salt always nearby -- that United would be able to spend hundreds of millions in transfer fees and still remain well within FFP limits. I do not have the wherewithal to dispute or confirm that thesis.

A) SAF has left 10 years ago.
B) I have not the smallest thing against English players. Just against the ones that will command unreasonably fees for a club, who doesn't have to bring in one play to finalize the puzzle but a few more. How much has Ramsdale cost? White was around 50, wasn't he? Would certainly think about Rice for 50 million, but we all know, that isn't going to be the price they will want.

I have a suspicion those people are living in cloud cuckoo land

If you think Rice is a 40m player what true price would you put on Antony?
To be fair, 40-50m could probably get you a quality DM these days not so much difference as Rice, and Antony is at most 40m player before and after he joined us. We have been robbed by Ajax.

Considering English tax, United tax and PL experience, I would only buy Rice for 50-60m at most, and Anthony for 40-50m.

And before you say it’s the market price, who do you think would buy 85m for Anthony, or 80m for Sancho, or 80m for Maguire from us? That’s absolutely none at any point, unless we lower the asking price by half or even less.

There were 40m+ bids for Gallagher
English tax is huge and also tax of buying from within PL. Check all the Brighton deals. Ideally Rice should go for 60m-70m but its likely it will be 80m-85m. All the talk of 100m+ os just posturing.

Fair play, if people think Ben White is worth 50m then to me Rice is worth 60-80m.

He didn’t rate himself at 120m, West Ham did & that’s why he wasn’t bought by anyone.

Overpriced at the club. The club that usually has to play homegrown players anyway and would lose their best ones.

Now Bellingham is a whole level of overpriced for just doing it in the Bundesliga whilst doing shit all for England.

Soon as an English player does it in the Bundesliga they get this cringe worthy hype.

White for 50m at the time of transfer I felt was overpaid but now seems like good value. Same for Ramsdale for 24+8 now Brentford are asking 40m for Raya who we were interested in before Ramsdale.
If Rice performs then 80-85 would also look good value.
Its because current deals are reference for future deals for proven talent.

I agree with your sentiment but I think the reality is way different. Sancho at the time seemed like a good bit of business considering how he preformed in the BL and personally I thought £70m was a bit of a steal considering how much other players where going for but I don't have a problem admitting I was very wrong.

Instead of learning from our mistakes we keep making the same ones when it comes to transfers. The same 3 you mentioned were signed for a staggering £235m. We laugh at clubs like Chelsea or Liverpool but we're not too far behind them in making bad transfer decisions.

With Rice I'm not even sitting on the fence. For £80m I'd snap him up in a heartbeat. Is he worth £80m? Probably not but it is a position where we have a gaping hole (amongst others) but I do think it would a relatively low risk signing considering the form he's shown in the PL the last 3 or 4 seasons.

Personally I'd prefer Caicedo but I do think hes the sort of player that if a team like Madrid come calling he'd be off whereas I could see Rice staying for the rest of his career. Horses for courses.

Behind them?

Liverpools transfer business since Klopp came in has been miles better than ours!

Chelsea were much better too before Mad Todd came in and trashed everything.

I find this narrative weird, seeing as we were already horrible at transfers long before Boehly and Clearlake arrived. Let's see.

2021-22 signings: Lukaku, Saul Niguez (loan)
- both terrible deals. Thankfully Saul was only a loan but Lukaku on the other hand...

2020-21 signings: Werner, Havertz, Ziyech, Chilwell, Silva, Mendy
- Silva was a brilliant signing, Chilwell's been good apart from injuries and Mendy had a great first season before falling into mediocrity. Others all terrible from start to finish.

2019-20 signings: Pulisic
- been mostly shite.

2018-19 signings: Kepa, Kovacic, Jorginho
- good deals apart from Kepa who was a massive flop for outrageous money

2017-18 signings: Morata, Bakayoko, Drinkwater, Rüdiger, Zappacosta, Emerson, Giroud, Barkley
- The less said about this transfer season the better. Rüdiger turned out good and Giroud was an alright stop-gap for a few years but also many terrible, terrible signings.

In the last five season prior to Boehly-Clearlake arriving we brought in 20 players and of them I would consider maybe 6-7 to have been good signings and the rest have more or less been a case of pouring hundreds of millions of pounds down the drain.

2016 and before we were much better though.

If true I would love us to make a move for him. A midfield of Casemiro and Rice with either Bruno or Eriksen ahead would make a formidable midfield.

CM would be my second priority after striker this summer. Obviously the price could be the issue.

In the tweet thread supposedly Thomas Tuchel wants him at Bayern l. A tier 2 source. A little bit odd considering they could pick anyone from Bundesliga
Bayern desperately need a 6 and a striker. What 6 is there, that has the potential to improve a Bayern starting XI and that is actually getable? Rice, Caicedo and Tonali?

Same guy that broke the Mason Mount stuff, he's been a pretty good reporter before too

I would love Rice (for not a crazy fee) I think he's great - and impressed me pretty much anytime I've seen him at Old Trafford.

Him and Mount together would be a wet dream for our Social Media team.

Aren’t they very good friends?

Surely if we really want him, we will get him over Arsenal? We are a bigger club, can offer more wages and everyone knows Arsenal will not be in the top 4 next season after bottling their only chance of doing a leicester this season.

It’s probably a coin toss between Rica and Caicedo but I think Declan’s height and physical superiority made him the better choice. His height is extremely valuable if we’re goin to play with a back line including Martinez and Frimpong. For a big player he also has that rare speed and acceleration where he can run past his opponents if he has space in front of him.I honestly think he’s a perfect partner for Case or together with Eriksen/Mount behind Bruno. Actually I can’t see any downsides worth complaining about.

Let’s pay what it takes. He will be worth every penny, mark my words.

Surprised there’s no moneyball signing in the Bundesliga, but if they want immediate impact makes sense why they were also looking at casemiro. Is any possibility they go after Kane and Rice?

How good is this guy? Can he cope outside England Will he be like other EPL flops at Bayern like Mane Sane and Cancelo?
