Declan Rice | signs for arsenal

City joining the race as I predicted. They dont need him but want to stop their rivals from getting him, makes sense i guess, even though they just signed Kovacic.

Only option we have is a player plus cash. It wont be 2 players plus cash as will be incredibly difficult to do this.

Mct+ 60mill would be my push, we need to market MCT as a 45million player. But judging by the fact we are selling bailly for 2 mill and Iqbal for 1, i do worry.

Said all along Rice is a key key signing, idea player, personality and will give us some much needed athleticism in our midfield, but i have zero confidence in our negotiating team.

Our team sheets in his last few seasons could look pretty laughable for one of the richest clubs at that time I think was the posters point. Not in 07/08…
He literally said we've never been able to do it since the glazers took over....

Never in a million years will Pep convince him to come in and play the Stones role. It’s an exciting position but Pep won’t play it every game, he won’t play it as well as Stones or Rodri, won’t start for at least 6-12 months and would prefer to play as a central midfielder.

Getting outbid on our primary target only to get the better second option. Havertz-Zubimendi-Odegaard, another Edu/Arteta masterclass
That Rodri-Rice-Kovacic-Phillips midfield will be tough to break !

from memory i think it took 3 years for Ronaldo's money to be spent. Listen its game over if City has entered as they always get their man, or its another Ronaldo moment.

The chance to work with Pep at the reigning English and European champions, on a wage that would pay off the national debt of a small nation, versus a club that is rebuilding and in the throes of a takeover? It's game over all right.

Does City even need him?

Obviously not given their success without him this season. However when they've had all that success, its very interesting to see the players they go for because they're at their peak attractiveness for signings at this moment. Kovacic coming in on a free is interesting, but slightly different because of the free transfer status. A huge sum for Rice? Says a lot about the level Pep thinks hes at, even if it was just to compete with Rodri and he was just rotated in and played less games. It would just mean that whatever they paid, Pep thinks Rodri is worth that and a fair bit more.

West Ham to reject Arsenal's £90+ million and accept City's £40 million...nothing to see hear (wink wink)

They’re losing Gundo, so yes, they do need him. Unfortunately.

Not much being made of the times saying West Ham expect United to make a bid

We just not believing it, or assume we don’t have a chance now anyway?

Only way I can see us going in for him is if a Takeover happens sooner rather then later.

And we all know it's going to be later.

Pep probably won't end up playing the 3-2-2-3 box the whole next season either and move around the midfield 4 again, he needs depth for that and Rice is very versatile defensive midfielder.

Hopefully he doesn't forget to include a relegation release clause if he goes City.

Thought Kovacic was replacing him

I might be very wrong, but Kovacic might be used more for rotational duties with Rodri.
Pep normally only uses his midfield and forwards for 28 or 30 league games per season, max.
Preferring to rotate.
In the past, some were only getting 23 - 26 starts.
Rodri had 36 EPL appearances this season, which is unusual.

Well hadn't seen anything about them expecting us to make a bid, also I don't believe we have any chance with City involved

The one thing Rice needs to think about is the likelihood Pep moves from City next year.

I'm not sure why he'd choose us over City

we'll need to outbid them which seems unlikely

Only including McTominay and something like £70m would bring us into the picture properly. However with City now involved it will be all academic anyway.

TBH rather City than Arsenal, I no longer really care what City do, they print money and have the best manager by a country mile, however I think rice would dramatically improve Arsenal and would rather not see that

Probably agree with that, just wish we had the necessary extra funds to get him but have to prioritise Onana and a striker likely Hojlund

I don’t think Rice necessarily chooses the club which is currently top of the heap over Manchester United.

I don’t rule out delusion on my part but we’re the biggest club in the world (with Madrid and Barca) and I could see Rice and Mount jumping aboard, being as we’re on the way back and to be part of a (potentially) very exciting project. And we could outbid City if we wanted to.

This Man City bid just looks like what they did with Maguire, just to ensure the player does not go for cheap to opponent. They Rodri , phillips and also stones to play that position and are still going for him. If they identified him to replace Gundogan they would have closed the deal by now.

Do you honestly see Mount playing any part in Rice's decision, initially I thought maybe but now don't see it having any influence
