Declan Rice | signs for arsenal

Could very easily play in the midfield role Stones has played very well in and move Stones back to CB.
He could play the stones role yeah but stones wouldn't be as good as Dias/akanji roles for the CB and RB/RCB positions. It turns stones into a squad player which I don't know if he does?

Have United even been properly linked with him at all? Not sure why some people seem so butt-hurt that City have bid.

Seen so many Arsenal fans talking like Rice is definitely signing because of all the work they've done on the deal, obviously not learnt from the Mudryk deal

Arsenal's interest in Caicedo and Lavia makes more sense now.

If I was a prominent RedCafe moaner I would point out that even Arsenal's back-up targets are a level above ours. Luckily I'm not.

I think Stones could be as good as them in that position, but I generally agree that Rice to City doesn't seem like that should be a priority signing for them.

Arsenal moving from Rice to Caicedo doesn't really drop their level at all IMO so if I was an arsenal fan I wouldn't be too concerned. Be interesting to see what Pep does with Rice if they do get him. I don't see him as anything other than a 6 (or that Stones role), though I guess stones is 29 so maybe that's part of the thinking... I dunno, just seems a weird one. Though I guess they did get Grealish to sit on the bench for a year so not a whole lot different to that.

I think we've farqed it.

Just like the Mudryk deal - though that one turned out for the better in the short term at least.

Won’t move to United because of uprooting his family away from London but will move to City, just because….

Make it make sense CAF! Make it make sense!

Maybe difficult for you to understand but I will try. Caf is not a single person or poster, it's collection of posters from different locations, supporting different clubs and all with different views.

So go and find the post that you wanted to reply to and then reply to that post, instead of randomly quoting other posters and then moaning about some nonsense that OP doesn't care about.

City never really get into situations where they are involved in back and forths over bids. They table their offer and it's usually accepted or they move on.

It doesnt and I'd be happy with either. Unfortunately, Caicedo isn't gonna much (if any) cheaper than Rice. So either way, if we want to significantly upgrade our midfield with PL adapted players, we're gonna be paying over the odds. Might as well get it over with.

Yeah you're right and this makes me think they have had encouraging signs over tabling a bid. If City's interest is real I'd expect this to be done fairly quickly.

Don’t get the move for City. Rodri is arguably the best in the league at sitting right in front of the defense and controlling matches from deep. So why spend £100m or more on Rice who occupies the exact same area? When you’ve also just spent £50m on another DM in Phillips who they don’t even use.

This one hurts

Think he’d be a really good signing.

I just can’t get over how terrible our recruitment is. I could literally do better all by myself

They’re going to be very difficult to get through. They’re also sweeping up all the best English talent.

how the feck do we stop them?

Apparently Rice has ‘loads more to his attacking game’, and can play further forward. Which I’ve generally scoffed at when I’ve heard it. Wouldn’t surprise me if Pep actually brought it out of him though

Oh that’s news to me. Thanks for clearing up something I already knew.

Just perplexed that we now are admitting defeat the second City are interested. Same as Kane+Madrid. Looks like that never happened and news coming out that Kane wants United.

Just don’t understand the hysteria the second another big team comes in for our targets.

We all want big names and call club inept for not getting them but at the same time shit on our chances of attracting said big names.

Not sure where you see the hysteria, like I said you should reply to those posts instead of spamming the thread by quoting random posts.

We are admitting defeat? Not sure why anyone even thinks we are in race when no serious journalists linked us with Rice. It was all Arsenal and now it's Arsenal or city.

You really need some help, transfer forums are not meant for everyone. Just put this transfer forum on ignore.

Are Chelsea not interested in Rice? I seem to remember they were at some point.
Don’t think we can afford to spend £100m+ on a second midfielder when we’re out of Europe. He wouldn’t come here without Champions League football now either I don’t think. The situation with his best mate Mount probably wouldn’t work in our favor either.

Basically spending the money on him because then their nearest contenders from last season won't get the massive upgrade they desperately need. May as well hand them the league now if they get this done.

They'll be even harder to break down with Rodri and Rice in there as well which will help in the big European games.

In a more attacking team that enjoys more possession and higher quality colleagues he'll be 20 goals/assists a season.

He strikes the ball well, is excellent at carrying it on driving runs - his main limitation is a range of passing and how quickly he moves the ball at times.

Last year he had the highest number of 'progressive carries' of whatever it's called in Europe at one point, and was alongside Lanzini in the top 5 for pass accuracy, ball retention.

He's a very good player and not quite what many outsiders seem to think.

He's a full all-rounder who , with goals, would obviously be stratospheric in price. If he adds the goals, £90m-£100m will look cheap.

they did the same last season with Kalvin Phillips

They got Enzo in Jan and are looking to get Caicedo now. So probably not interested anymore.

My honest feeling is that if Rice and Caicedo were both available and both wanted to come to Chelsea, we would choose Rice. But Rice doesn’t want Chelsea anymore. There’s no reason Chelsea would let Arsenal have a free run at him for so long, if there was a chance Rice would accept a move to Chelsea. We would have been in there and it would have been a bidding war.

So are City going to bench Rodri for Rice or is Rice going to follow the same career path as Kalvin Phillips? Can't see Pep starting both Rodri and Rice. Too defensive.

Doesn't John Stones do this CB into CM thing now? so its usually Rodri, Gundo and Stones in midfield when in possession.
