If Arsenal and Manchester United approached West Ham with absolutely identical offers which met the club's financial expectations, the WHU support would expect the board to push him towards Manchester and tell him it's that or he stays put.

If Man City come in now Gundogan has gone , that would be the sale of choice.
West Ham hate us more than Arsenal

Trying to over think it. West Ham want more money and the United related part is bait for Arsenal to cough up. Any word of city being interest is pure nonsense and is also bait. " Oh if City want him we better pay up" How many times does you have to watch an elephant been walked down the road to decide thats an elephant. We, United , are not in this conversation we are not blowing our whole budget on a player and if we were silly enough to do it, it would be a striker. As for City if they go for a player they are already getting him , conversation is over before any talk of a bid is in.

Of course, but it's not in their interest to value our players high. I doubt they'll value Scott more than 25m and still expect us to pay £80m on top of it. It will be a shit deal for us.
I’d take that deal right now. £80m plus McT, yes indeed. Rice is a massive upgrade and we get Scott off the bill as well.

What will actually happen is we will demand £50m for McT and try and get Rice for £75m or some stupid shit. We’ll be stuck with McT and end up with some shitty journeyman on loan.

McTominay + £80m for Rice....funny only about two seasons ago many on here thought they were on a similar level, which was laughable at the time.

Maguire/McTominay + £50m give Rice £200k a week over five years....looking at all three players current salaries, its only costing us about £25m over those five years more than if we kept those two, be brilliant business.

When we've signed Tevez, we helped them to stay up the last game of the season at OT.

No they beat us, we didn't help them.

Not a chance Fergie would throw a game and certainly not against fecking West Ham.

Paul Ince? Costing us a title?

what they hell they hate us for?

Ince didn't help but I think it goes back even further than that. As to why they hate United so much I'm not sure, even SAF doesn't know and in the same article Pardew says United is/was a bigger game for West Ham than Arsenal or Spurs.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...lex-I-dont-know-Hammers-love-hate-United.html

Though to be fair the feelings mostly mutual because of their antics in 92 and 95. Not that a lot of United fans on here seem to be aware of with so many rooting for them a few weeks ago in their final.

Your fanbase would demand the board turn down a £100m transfer record for a British player with 2 years left on his contract just to spite Arsenal?!?

Erm… why? We aren’t rivals.

Because they're ridiculous.

I’m not saying he’s right but you seem to have missed the first line of his post.

As much as I would love us to sign Rice, i don’t think it’s happening at all. Partly due to the huge price and takeover issues partly due to prioritising other positions.

Never mind it was my own misreading of the later bit. I was thinking if both clubs were offering the same they’d not be missing out, but the “take that or stay put” overrides that.

Ignore me!
To be fair to you, I think you, like me, were trying of make sense it. I re-read it so many times trying to follow the logic. It really made me question things - is there some huge rivalry between West Ham and Arsenal that I’ve somehow been unaware of for 30+ years?

We ain’t getting more then 30m for Mctominay  Mac Allister was like 35m. People need to stop over exaggerating with the price of our players. Just because we was stupid to pay 80m for the likes of Maguire it doesn’t mean we’ll get loads for him back. He’s awful and worth no more than 30m. I mean I’ll be delighted if there’s another stupid club out there that wants to splash 50m on Maguire and 40m on Mctominay but can’t see it.
MacAllister had some kind of clause if not he’d easily go for £80m plus. Of course McTominay is not worth more than £30m but if we value him at £30m and make that our asking price then we’ll likely get £15-20m, but if we value him at £40m then we’ll get closer to £30m.

While you’re right about not overvaluing our players, people should also not make the mistake of undervaluing our players. McTominay and Maguire are both first team internationals with huge Premier League experience. The footballing and commercial value that they would add to most teams in the league should not go unrecognised in any negotiation.

Do you think City, RM, Chelsea etc sell their deadwood with the mentality of “how useless the player is to us” or do they instead focus on “how beneficial the player will be to the interested team” ?

Maybe it’s like the United and Stoke rivalry that only exists in Stoke fans heads?

The biggest mistake would be not getting guys like McT off the books. He has to be priced to sell and that means his value is capped at the highest figure another club is willing to pay. If it’s £20m, so be it. We can’t dig our heals in because we think he’s worth £21m - he’s got to go (sadly).

Negotiation is a dark art - who’s to say what approach is best in any given deal? We’ll never know the details of negotiations anyway. A quasi auction is best. At £10m there’d be a queue of clubs wanting him, as the price goes up there’ll be fewer. I don’t know what our reserve price would be but if we bring in another midfielder or two I’m guessing it would be pretty low. In any case, we just have to (in the nicest way) get unwanted players out the door.

Excitement aside, where will we actually fit him in? I don't think he's starting ahead of Casemiro and a Casemiro - Rice pairing is not what we want given our interest in Mount.

He seems tailor made for Arsenal if Partey leaves. Rice + Lavia is going to be amazing for them. Or if they go the same route as the other top clubs with two interiors (Havertz, Odegaard) protected by one DM (Rice) that would work too.

Yes as you suggest in your second paragraph. If you change your system and push up your lines, Casemiro will very likely be benched by a Rice or Caicedo at six. Its not a contest.

Casemiro is not a player who cannot patrol space better than Rodri, Partey, Caicedo, Rice or even Guimaraes. He is a better fit for a deeper lying team as United were in 22/23 and is excellent at anticipation and breaking up opposition attacks.

A cheaper, more rounded option than Rice or Caicedo, would be Bruno Guimaraes IMO. He will also bench Casemiro in a more attacking system like City's. But more importantly Guimaraes can play the defensive setup midfielder role better than Casemiro as well, as he's able to hold the ball well, break up play and advance play as well.

As for Mount, he resembles a box-box player to me as well. Creative, defensive, and comfortable with both feet and hence can cover the defensive and attacking midfield lines in your team. He would be a good signing for United, absolutely.

For United to do business quickly, I'd say get in Mount, Guimaraes and Rabiot. That would cost 100m but it would give United flexibility and depth in central areas. Fernandes, Mount, Guimaraes as your starting three, with Lisandro moving into midfield in possession. Skillful, energetic but also a solid defensive base for the front attackers.

I like that deal,I'd open with Maguire/McTominay + GBP40M

Instead of spunking loads on Rice , Caicedo at Brighton would be a better buy in my opinion and major spending is needed in every single position on the pitch as you have no spine to the team DDG Maguire and one centre forward

You’ll be lucky, why would West Ham want your castoffs?Maguire is rubbish and mctominay is just a hatchet man who looks ok in a shit Scottish team

Would be very surprised if he goes to City. Doesn't seem to fit for me next to Rodri and stones coming inside.

Gundogan + Bernardo Silva > Kovacic + Rice

They'll lose a lot of creativity and goals. Kalvin Phillips must be delighted

Be rubbish for the league, but the Arsenal fan that basically guaranteed he'd join them being in the mud is fun. Hope he signs for someone else though.

Was thinking this myself. Pep must have something up his sleeve.
Time to raise Scott’s price now when we know West Ham have 90m plus coming in

They are going to sign a very attacking winger to play RW

Could very easily play in the midfield role Stones has played very well in and move Stones back to CB.

Dunno. Pep seems to now have combined his footballing ethos with Mourinho’s penchant for footballers to be absolute units. Gonna be a team of giants passing it around everyone else.
