Post some glorious gifs, it's much preferable to this Edwards silliness!

Just this one, nothing people haven't seen, but Camacho just cannot deal with this.

The defender doesn't know what's going on! Beautiful.

I'm still waiting on a goal for the Portuguese contingent to go mental. Doesn't seem forthcoming at the moment!

Few regulars are left to vote. Gio, Anto, Theon, Fergus from what I can think of. Think that will decide the game, I struggle to see many caftards coming at this hour, this being a Friday night and all that.

The defender doesn't know what's going on! Beautiful.

Indeed. That is the beauty of having Cruyff running at a player 1v1, he just cannot predict what will happen next, can be a straight cross or a couple of insane twists and what not.

It's a bit the other way with Best, a lot of times you can see what he's gonna go about with, pick up the ball and come straight charging at you, you know it, but you just cannot do anything about it. By the time you figure out he's gone.

I agree with anto that this game would be a treat to watch. Best and Cruyff fighting to be the top dog in the game would be a delight to watch. Best can actually repeat his special nutmeg a lot more easily this time given they are on the same flank.

We'll wake up tomorrow with a couple of votes (possibly spread out either way) as antohan and Gio keep us going to the nail-biting finish, bastards that they are.

In the meantime, let's enjoy this recently made video of Brazil's midfield king in that remarkable '82 team:

Now that's a proper centre mid. I'd pay £60m+ to add him to our midfield!

He really does look like a third division footballer there. Has no idea where he is!

The more I watch that the more I think Falcao could slot perfectly into your side and take it to the next level. Not sure I could fit Zico in there myself. Damn.

Oh yes, I was almost about to type when discussing with anto that if you combine the two midfields, it will really be a handful. Rijkaard, Falcao and a toss up between Charlton and Zico can really be a perfect midfield while also not being selfish/tantrum prone to hinder any superstar in attack.

It'd have to be Zico for the samba-factor but Charlton in there for a tough midfield battle could be golden, Zico's no Riquelme but Charlton's work ethic is something else for a playmaker. Rijkaard leaving the two Brazilians to run riot v the rest would be a sight to behold alright.

You watch that video and you think "how did they not win the damn thing?", then you see Serginho come in and feck it all up...I'd like to hear antohan tell us a bit about that Brazil side actually. Did it just suddenly come together in the last few months like Brazil's '70 team and shock even Brazil with how they played or did they grow together for a few years and that level of football was exactly as they'd come to expect? I can't imagine seeing a team play that well over a number of years. É impossível.

Anyway, I'm off to bed. Boa noite!

You are right about that, as much as I respect Charlton and feel that much like Zico he goes underrated when being talked about top number 10s, I just love watching Zico. Charlton would probably be more effective in a tight game due to his immense discipline and ethic, but if you wanna watch them play Zico's just as delightful as anyone else. The outrageous moves he tried, and the determination of scoring and then that beautiful celebration like a kid has just scored his first goal, he's a delight.

Aye I'll head over as well and leave with a totally unrelated but a fascinating quote I came across today.

Ronaldinho Upon collecting his Ballon d'Or trophy in 2006, Ronaldinho gave the world notice of what was to come. "This award says I'm the best player in the world, but I'm not even the best player at Barcelona. Since he began to come and train with us we knew we would go down this path. Someday I will explain that I was at the birth of one of the footballing greats: Leo Messi."

Sepp Maier if you're wondering.

It's that close that I'm even thinking about goalkeepers now! I think I'll go with brwned because the biggest thing that stands out to me is that Brwneds biggest threat is directly opposing the weakest links of Aldo's team, Zambrotta and particularly Alonso. Rijkaard is or needs to be more or less devoted to stopping Charlton and that actually places a pretty big burden on Alonso which he probably can't handle. I know Zico will help and Gullit too, but that means abandoning some pretty precarious flanks.

Sorry Aldo, its probably the hardest call I remember making in these drafts, I really like your team.

80's picks proving to be huge in this draft, all the best ones should've gone earlier.

I'm drunk as a skunk (do skunks get drunk?) so i'm staying out of the werewolf thread but i'll vote here since it's fun. It's the slightest edge but i'm giving it to brwned.

It seems the clearer strategy really. Excellent wings, quality midfield, and sharp defense with a pretty high quality striker. It's possible Aldo could win with the high quality players he has but I don't really understand how. I can't really follow that game mentally.

voted for aldo..but coming to think of it Brwned actually has the better balanced team.

I didn't really register Edwards, Charlton and Best

Hmm... in that case how about Ibrahimovic or Van Persie, Brwned? Surely would be an aerial threat too.
Van Persie was definitely a possibility but I wondered whether people would say he hadn't been at his peak for long enough. Would've been handy for the United spine of course. Ultimately I chose Villa so I had the option of playing him on the left if need be. With the criticism he got for playing down the middle it looks like that was a complete brainfart.

Ibra was a no-go for me, just not rated in the same way. I was arguing that he's pretty much at the same level as Henry - dominated Serie A with ease, scored fantastic goals at will but never really imposed himself at the highest level bar a few games here and there. Don't think anyone agreed.

That would've left it 18-18 you bastard!

Good game this, eventually.

Villa was the most consistent striker in the world until he joined Barcelona. Only read the first page but it does seem he was underrated.

Was just thinking how Gullit has gone completely unnoticed due to bigger names but how he can be really the key player here.

I have reunited him with Rijkaard, 2 key players of one of the best club sides ever, and his role is not much different.

Sacchi's Milan's main strength was spreading out and regaining shape with lightening quick transitions and I just cannot imagine a player better for that than Gullit, which is why he was vital. He just doing the same thing here.

While defending he'd be all over the pitch just closing down and harrying players wherever the ball goes. Again, cannot think of a better player than the joyful Dutch beast to do that. Infinite reserves of stamina. And as soon as the ball is recovered, he's either going to glide past players with his electric pace and dribbling or reach the far post if the ball is being played on the left. I have explained this earlier but this really is a terrific route to goal specially against Camacho who was half a foot shorter.

Once the players are tied up trying to deal with Cruyff, Zico and Muller, he would drop in deadly positions and would absolutely relish that role. I really wish I could see this game played JUST to see him in that role, he would be delightful in there.

I did find it strange hwo little mention that got.

Aye I am guilty of that. But I was thinking about it for some time and he could easily come out as man of the match in this game, which says a lot.

I was going to mention Gullit being overlooked last night but decided against that in the end...

Camacho's on Cruyff though, not that Brehme is any more suited to dealing with Gullit in the air. Who's providing the crosses with Cruyff attacking the centre backs?

The aerial balls can come from Alonso and Hansen, and this one attribute in which Alonso is actually not out of his depth here. Cruyff's mainly attacking the CB but he can put in a cross if he sees Gullit unmarked. All in all with all the confusion created in your defense by the rest of the 3, Gullit will just drop in deadly place, either for 1-2s, winning aerial battles or piling one in himself.

I'm completely stuck here.

I look at Brwned and I see a great core and spine through midfield, then get completely deflated and need to remind myself Best will be doing all sorts of shit.

I then look at Aldo and I drool at the front 4, go meh in midfield (comparatively) and see half a rock solid defence and half a defence in disarray.

DRAW.

Then I think if only Brwned's midfielders dropped back to leave no space between the lines Aldo's strong point starts getting isolated and in all sorts of trouble. Brwned agreed but Aldo is right that it's such a monumental waste that they will instinctively push on. I think the discipline is there but it's like there's a magnet playing tricks with me and driving them further up.

Mindfeck. It doesn't help that the two players on the pitch that I have a massive spot for and would decide me are also in different teams (Zico and Falcao).

It may actually go down to United theme, which is spectacularly unfair and a monumental copout.

I need to go to bed though!!!!!!

Neither side has an aerial threat of note from open play IMO. One because no one is doing much crossing, the other because there is no one who can realistically head it.

I know I'm in the minority here but I'm not crazy about Gullit out on the right. If I was Aldo it was be an area I would look to upgrade at some point - based on the decades he has available Garrincha getting knocked out would be perfect for Aldo.

Then we really are talking about a drool worthy front four, but at the moment Gullit is comparitive to the rest a weak point in an otherwise deadly attack

Outrageous! Bobby had a good noggin'. He's just got Rijkaard all over him unfortunately.

Agreed, it is not a primary weapon but Cruyff was quite good in short crosses (if you can call it that) of lobbing it from one edge to the other if a player is unmarked. Admittedly though it is not going to happen a lot, and most of Gullit's aerial presence will be used from hoofs coming from deep. Even if it is just Gullit and Muller up there against Brehme and Rio, they can make a goal from that.

The low crosses however will be absolutely deadly.

feck off. He already bummed Messi enough today to give him further reasons.
