Dean Henderson | Sold to Palace

We must absolutely get rid of him. He is a toxic in dressing room, huge ego, refused to play as backup, badmouthing the club publicly, on super high wages, and we need money.

It’s called a negotiation mate. We have enquired about 3 other Keepers as well as talked to PSG about Navas.
Jose loves Henderson, at Roma he might want to upgrade and Rona have huge financial backing, He would definitely pay the £20m we want, he tried buying him when he managed spurs for £30m then ?

Roma are completely broke. They had to have a fire sale to raise 30M before the end of June to avoid being penalized under FFP rules and they are effectively only able to sign players on loan in this window. This is also ignoring the fact that Rui is twice the keeper Hendo could ever be.

At one point it looked like we had the next England keeper, and it could have been a big mistake letting him run down his contract and go for a miniscule fee.

However, De Gea had a bit of a renaissance, Hendo showed he wasn't ready to step up / showed his slightly offputting character, and suddenly we were stuck with 2 highly paid keepers.

How we still haven't wrapped up a deal everyone wants to happen though I do not know.
Well if Forest stop with their derisory bids then maybe we can wrap this up with a ribbon on top.

how much was Hendo's contract, and how much is Onana's?
looks like just in that department we have reduced our ~10M/year in wages.

Probably way more than that. DDG on £375k/week, Henderson on £100k/week (?), so that’s £25M off the wage book. Onana seems to be on £100K per week, which is on par with Hendo. So basically we’re saving DDG’s total wage of close to £20M per year with these moves. Crazy.

EDIT: I just made some edits from my original post. In any case, even without knowing all the specifics, we can conclude that there’s a ton of wages being saved from here on out in the GK dept.

Not sure the specifics, but sounds about right, probably more than that. DDG on £375k/week, Henderson on £100k/week (?), so that’s at least £20M off the wage booj. Onana can’t be £150K or £200K per week can he?

I read that Onana is on £200k, but that's with incentives. I imagine base is around £150k somewhere. He was on £100k+ at Inter apparently, which makes sense as he signed on a free.

Edit: actually, might have been €100k at Inter. Sorry, getting currencies confused myself now!

Why can't he?

He's first team goalkeeper for Man United. What do we think his agent does when he negotiates with Man United? First thing he says is look at what you're paying David de Gea and you believe my client is better. That's a starting point. Not in the hope of getting the same ludicrous deal but certainly in setting a high benchmark. Second thing he does is look at wages keepers for similar level clubs have. That's what the agents do, they're constantly benchmarking and leveraging these deals.

Onana will be on at least 150k in my view. Anything else would be extremely shoddy by his agent.

Premier league fans don't realise the financial state other leagues are in. For premier league clubs covid was just a minor hiccup but the other leagues are still recovering. La liga have spent 200m(100m of this is Bellingham) this window compared to almost a billion by prem clubs so far.

Negotiations should be conducted by fans, it'd be hilarious. Either no-one would ever be sold, or the non-flavour of the month who is "shite" would be "driven meself to [whichever stadium]" on a free.
Now that would be a reality Tv show id watch

On topic, is it an obligation to buy or an option to buy? Hopefully someone else comes in for him and we can do the transfer.

Henderson’s was £120k per week. Onana will comfortably be on higher than that as he’s the 4th more expensive keeper of all time.
I guess Henderson’s pay was at least partially inflated by the absolutely crazy amount we were paying DDG.

Everytime this thread is bumped*, I eagerly click hoping he's finally left. But no, he's still here. Probably can't get his ego through the doorframe.

I desperately hope for his sake that ETH hasn't noticed him, because then he'd want to keep him because he's just so great. Whilst also never playing him, because he's erm....so great.

*I realise I've just done this ;)

They must be broke this window. Elanga was their 2nd transfer of the window.

Edit: Also if they get relegated what happens?i doubt Henderson would then agree to move.

If there’s an obligation to buy them regardless of whether they stay up or not Forest are legally and contractually bound to pay the agreed obligated transfer fee, it won’t matter if Henderson wouldn’t want to play in The Championship as he’d have zero say in it so at best he could tell Forest to sell him back on as soon as the move was officially completed.

Thanks brother! If the OTB price is right, we should let him go, assuming they will cover his full wage this year.

Hope all is well your side.
I assume there will be a loan fee along with a obligation to buy with his wages being paid by Forest.

All is good here bro, I hope you're also doing well.

Disappointing if true. Really need the money and FFP impact this summer. Obviously no guarantee, but you’d think we’d have new owners by next summer.

don't like the obligation to buy and loan move....we need the funds now unless we still have options to sell some combo of Maguire, Fred, Martial and Scott

I dont mind a loan with obligation to buy as they are always taken up its just an FFP tool.

I hate ‘option to buy’ as they never do.

If we see off Hendo and Bailly with Telles and Elanga already gone and West Ham fork out for Maguire, Mctominay or both that will be the best we’ve done on shifting players in quite a while

As long as Forest pays 100% of his wages and obligation to buy next year for 25-30M
Depends what will be included in obligation to buy. If it is 15 games then ok but if it is clause that he must play 25 (or more) games then it can get tricky. At end of the season they can bench him to avoid buying him.

I wonder if Ten Hag wants to keep him now he has seen him in training....

Well two scenarios here ...

A) Other bidders or interested clubs which are in a better financial state and can do an uncomplicated transfer (buy) now? Then don´t do the loan and progress in this direction
B) No one else interested (should be clear by now if so) - do the loan with OTB but in a way it is safe for us (what are the conditions for the obligation to trigger? what happens if NFO gets relegated?). Don´t get us screwed on this.

Obligation to buy price should be higher than upfront payment due to deferred income. Some of which is offset by loan fee.

Agreed re option “a” - always best to shift him now if we had a suitable offer on the table. Yep, one would assume the liability moves over at a certain point in time with an OTB, but yeah, conditions permitting (like the relegation one being quite relevant).
