De Gea contract talk | Signs new deal

@Loublaze
I must confess that I haven’t followed many others consistently, but I’ve watched a lot of Barca lately due to a friend who’s a massive fan, and Ter Stegen would be my #1. Neuer, despite his injuries these last few years is more complete imo. I just wish for more from De Gea, imo he hasn’t developed much since we bought him, he’s only grown into his body more and, naturally, grown stronger.

I’ve already stated that he is world class, or only wc player at that. Even so, I do think we’d manage alright if we had to replace him.

Keep the best , get rid of the rest should be our mantra. Totally worth the money DDG.

Can't see him leaving now if the reported wage amount is correct,a keeper making top 5 player money would be unprecedented

As if the Sun have a clue what's going on, we've been hearing for months that he's "just about to sign". Until it's official, I ain't buying it.

I’d fecking sell everyone and give theirs salaries to De Gea if it needs be, we are a one man team anyway. Totally deserved in my opinion when you consider we are paying 100k+ to average dross.

From a fan's points of view, I don't care if they give him 700k a week, if it means he'll stay then I have no problems with it. But, objectively, we are probably only club in the world who would give that much to a goalkeeper(no matter how good he is), for me it's just another proof how inept our people who negotiate with player's agents are.

But totally understandable from de Gea's point if view, if I was him I would probably ask even more.

I have to be honest, I don't see why we need the best goalkeeper in the world when our outfield players are so garbage. Wouldn't it make more sense to sell De Gea, get a decent level keeper (someone like Becker is fine. Gets the job done) and invest in defenders?

I'm happy he stay though. Not my money.

Our investing has been atrocious. Les keep the one jewel we have

We need a top keeper cos our defence is garbage.

Wierd way of looking at it. I'd prefer us not to just give up.

We keep the best keeper in the world and we buy outfield players, too.

All the more reason why we need a world class player, we would be much further back without him.

Maybe there is no point buying world class strikers as we have no midfield.....and vice versa??

Yes without him God knows where we would be but also with him it's not like we are all that amazing and that's my point. Even with the best keeper in the world, we won't fix our problems which lie in the outfield players.

Overall I am happy with this and it does make sense to keep your world class players but the only thing that has me worried is we are investing in a big chunk of salary to keep the worlds best keeper and it just feels like a guy who is currently making minimum wage but keeping his Ferrari that he drives to work.

Again I'm not complaining but just worried that we keep on targeting the right areas.

Extending a contract to DDG makes complete sense.

Take Allison, for example. He cost something like £67M pounds. Over the course of a 5 year contract that works out to £260k per week.

United also have the lowest wage:revenue ratio in England. There is a lot of room to increase wages (and transfers too).

Of course a keeper can only do so much, remember that the club makes hundreds of millions of pounds every year, we shouldn't need to sell our only world class player to buy.

Even if many don’t rate him in the top 3, or even 5, he is definitely in the top 10. So my question is if he leaves, who the feck are we going to get in as a replacement? Allison just went for 65m+, Kepa around there too I think. So we looking at around that fee for a top keeper - I don’t even know if any are available, maybe Oblak?

Point is, any new top keeper (who we probably couldn’t get anyway) would demand massive wages on top of an insane transfer fee. It’s a completely terrible business and football decision to not sign him up at a premium of 100-150k per week.

Get rid of Sanchez. Give Dave a portion of his cash and invest the rest into an up and coming exciting attacker. Go back to our roots.

Not currently in anywhere near as good a form to deserve that kind of wage, but we know he can be. So I guess its okay

Not only has he been our best player over the last few years, he's been a complete professional even as the club has been in tatters around him. When we were close to selling him to Real he was professional throughout and continued to be so after the deal bizzarely fell through in ridiculous circumstances. We didn't hear a peep from him when he was benched for the Europa League final either, one of the few chances he's had to get silverware during his time here. How many other world class players would handle all that with as little fuss and drama?

Loyalty doesn't mean much in professional football but there comes a point where you want to see some and it this case it should be from the club/fans. The reality is that DDG has been far too good for the team around him over the last few years but has performed and behaved pretty immaculately throughout despite this. Even if this contract sees him get payed more than his market value then as far as I'm concerened that's the reward he gets for being awesome.

I really don't care if other goalkeepers are as good as him or are better value for their clubs. None of them are our goalkeeper and none of them have done shit for us so frankly they can all get fecked.

I couldn't have put it any better.

That's among the many reasons I feel pride that we in Manchester treat DDG well through thick and thin (unlike in Spain). Dave is one of our own!

Maybe it will be the best thing happen this season. Keeping DDG is a must and if anyone deserves ridiculous money in our team it's only him.

If there's someone who deserves it its him. I agree some players got too big of salaries but this one makes sense.

He’s our best player and should be winning top honours yet he’s sticking with us through this tripe. He’s worth every penny. Having said that it seems moneys our only selling point at the moment and that’s worrying.

Up and coming big names courted by the big clubs can earn top money anywhere, the chances of winning top trophies however will only be won at select clubs. They don’t think what Manchester United used to be or can be in the future they think where, right now, do I have the best chance of winning top honours. If you’re a big up and coming talent which all the clubs want, Manchester United would be way down the list

Disgraceful.

Not even close to being worth that. He’s a f*cking goalkeeper.

Surprised he's never pushed for a move back to Atletico considering they've been more successful than Man. United since he left in 2011.

Everyone o.k with a De Gea-Oblak swop even if you had to pay Atletico 30m given the differing contract lengths?

Definitely not.
