De Gea contract talk | Signs new deal

Perhaps my brain has melted after a busy week, but i honestly feel thats over the top. Even for a stellar keeper like him.

If he doesn't want to keep playing for us for less than that, well, maybe it's time to part ways?
Our wagebill are already absurd as it is, even at this day and age.

We will obviously not find anyone else as good as him at shotstopping, but maybe we could find a more vocal commanding keeper?

He's the best keeper on the planet so I don't really care about the wages.

Now Sanchez on the other hand..

Why are people losing it? If he doesn't sign people will criticise the club for not keeping him but if he does sign it's too much? It's 400k AFTER bonuses, meaning it'll likely be 280k-300k and then bonuses for clean sheets, motm etc.
The guy is worth every penny of whatever he makes, he's our only world class player and the fact he wants to stay whilst we're not at our best suggests he wants to help us get back there, true loyalty which these days you can't put a price on. He's won us many of games on his own in the past and he will in the future, you need those kind of players if you're going to be at the top and I certainly wouldn't count on Romero as our no.1 to take us forward.

It basically sets a precedent so that other players can now hold clubs to ransom and let their contracts run dangerously low. Those desperate to keep them will pay the price.

I'm guessing we'll be seeing this a lot more often. If reports are to be believed Martial is doing the same.

We'll find new sponsors and new markets.

Not really, world class players can do this not just about anyone. Wouldn't you have Neymar here for 500k a week?

To be honest, there's hardly any players we've got where that tactic would work though. It's not like we've got a squad full of players we're desperate to keep. But I do get what you mean.

We have players like Jones and Rojo who earn around 250K per week (combined) without even ever staying fit and people have problem with paying 400K (including bonuses) for the best GK in the league and arguably world.

No one even knows what these bonuses are.

I don't think his distribution has ever been a strength, it's always been around the 50% area since he's been here and he had one season at 64%, most of the top passing goalies are high 70s at worst. He's actually having a reasonable pass completion at 59% this season by his standards but it's a way off the top guys.

Indeed, I watched a lot of games under LVG, De Gea didn't stay closer to the line often as under Jose because we play with high line, I loved watching United away at Anfield in 2015 where we completely dominated the matches, controlled it so perfectly and two great goals, 7 times I watched this games. De Gea looks very comfortable on balls, cleared a couple of through balls couple of balls, to deny them having a chance to shot.

Spain keep using him, LVG and Jose have a different style of goalkeeper they prefer but they still keep De Gea because he can play what they want from him to do.

Top players running down their contracts to get a better deal is already the new normal.

He is the only player in our squad who deserve this kind of money.
The sooner we rid ourselves of Sanchez the better.

Oh how we have fallen. As for DDG, he deserves any kind of salary really, his recent blip in form doesn't change shit.

You mean Pogba and Sanchez

Don't take the piss and spread blatant lies. Jones is on 50k and Rojo is on 80k a week. Not fecking 250.

He is worth the money despite having a below par season so far.

The Sanchez deal has really put us in a bad position because now every player will we wanting higher wages.

As much as I believe Dave is our only world-class player I have mixed feelings about this

Where does it end? We’re setting the precedent that we can be held to ransom

We're not offering on the pitch success so throwing money at players is all we can do

as much as the salary if De Gea left what would it say about the club

it would be symbolic of our decline

he deserves to be our best paid player

Rojo, who earns more than £120,000-a-week,

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...arcos-rojo-man-utd-wage-demands-could-derail/

There are many reports that Rojo earns around 150K. If you believe Jones earns 50K then you need to step into real world.

edit: I meant both of them combined earn around 250K.
meh is one link more valid than another - certainly here it says jones is on £50k and Rojo on £80k
https://www.totalsportek.com/money/manchester-united-player-salaries/
here rojo is listed at £70k
https://sillyseason.com/salary/manchester-united-players-salaries-list-69041/

I dont put too much faith in any of the lists as truthfully none of us really know what they earn - whats basic salary, whats match day bonus, merch rights etc etc

:wenger: Obviously totalsportek and Sillyseason is more reliable than Telegraph, who somehow believes Rojo contract expires in 2019.

He signed new deal last season.

Can't believe he wants to stay tbh. Obviously delighted he does though.

Didn't Edurne move to Manchester recently? If she hadn't then he probably would've been reluctant to stay. Also he is pretty much a scapegoat in Spain so doubt he would've gone there anyway.

I do worry about this. I mean, at least he's sort of worth it as the best shot stopping GK in the world, compared to say Sanchez, who's just shit. But now Pogba's gonna want 400k a week and so will any big name signing. No wonder Ashley Young and Jesse are getting 100k a week... Soon, they'll be on 250k.

Where does it end? Are we not better off telling Sanchez he can go for free and offering Dave 300k, take it or leave it? Sell him for £50m or so and find a replacement we can pay WAY less to?

This just doesn't seem sustainable.

It's not but at the same time we're earning more and more money and we've got nearly nothing to offer to him apart from cash (so no trophies or whatever) so there's that. If we find a 1:1 replacement then we'll have to pay far more than the quoted 50 mil quid and that alone makes you wonder whether or not increasing his salary by X is simply more worth it than paying the amount of cash we'd have to pay for the new signing.

If we're looking for a cheaper alternative though I can jump into our goal for 20k quid weekly no problem.

I think he hates Spain now and he's loving the adulation of the United fans. He feels the love and full appreciation at Old Trafford. He's not going anywhere soon

Won't lie, I feel a bit similar to others in that it sets a precedent that no other clubs seem to have to do, but I'm over the moon about keeping him and I did always say we should do whatever it takes. It also sets the precedent that we're still a club where world class players reside.

And there really isn't any top club that strikes out as being desperate for a GK now. Either way, I suppose another 4 years or so at the club will cement his status as a Manchester United Great, if not a Legend due to the relative lack of major trophies in his time. Though that can still happen of course.

If he leaves we'd probably have to fork out something between 50 and 80 million for a replacement, and of course that new goalkeeper will also have decent wages.

Perhaps PSG but i think he has too much ambition to go there and play in a tractor league week in week out. He will be here till he retires

Top keeper, top wages. No problem.

Flog Sanchez and our wage bill will be back to normal.

Haha. I'll do it for 5k a week xD

But seriously, what's the point in having Joel Periera (for example)? He's played 8 games this season on loan. How is anyone going to find out if he's good enough if he's not playing 40 games a season?

We could have a replacement in our ranks. The money being talked about is WAY above what almost anyone else bar Messi and Ronaldo (and Sanchez) and being paid. I just think now is the only opportunity to nip this in the bud and stop it spiralling out of control.

I feel we're just throwing money at players to sign, I know that's how jobs work but we pay much more money to players and it feels like if that wasn't the case they wouldn't be here.

Juve, GK is pretty much their weakest area.

Hope his bonuses include finding a United player after kicking a football at least twice in a game.

This is bullshit. A bonus is not something that will definitely be paid so how can someone say what his wage will be after bonuses? It's clearly a non-standard way of reporting a new contract. Other players don't have their bonuses factored in. It's simply something they are doing because it's United, similar to the shenanigans with Sanchez.
