De Gea contract talk | Signs new deal

If we're competitive, yes.

Don't see any big team needing GK, especially for a big fee

Madrid have signed Courtois
Barca - Marc-Andre ter Stegen who is also young for a GK

Bayern - Neuer

Juventus - Signed Perin

Don't see him leaving for any other club. PSG maybe, but they will also sign some other GK.

His contract runs out next summer but we have an option of an extra year, we won't get a big fee for him at all unless he signs a new deal in the meantime.

He will be a club legend if he stays with us his whole career. He probably realises he wont get that same respect at madrid.

This was a hot topic during the summer especially during the WC in Russia, it sounded like it was just a formality. That story has also died completely, I wonder if this is ever going to happen or wil De Gea also want to leave soon?

With the transfer window closing earlier that takes precedence. Once the window closes we'll be working on new contracts and stuff.

I'm pretty sure they'll have other people other than Ed working on things...

So if Ed is off sorting out our new condom partner, then someon in the legal team can still be working on player contracts, or a separate partnership with a new Post it partner...

We need to be winning stuff or he could easily go to PSG or Juventus in a couple of years. Guaranteed league titles and a shot at CL.
Exactly, can’t take him for granted...Or even Barcelona may come in for him in the future.Obviously we can heave a huge sigh of relief now that Madrid are out of the way,but David will only spend the rest of his career here if we start competing for the big titles again...

Barca have Ter Stegen who's also young. I guess there's PSG but financially maybe Oblak is easier for them.

We do have to start competing again. It's not fair how great he's been and we still haven't delivered a team near his level.

Regarding his new contract. Don't we generally announce our contract extensions once the season has began/transfer windows are closed? I think he's obviously signing a new long term deal and will be announced before christmas.

So surely Dave stays forever now.

Nah. RM will need a new toy in 3 years. Navas is being chucked aside like dirty laundry. DDG will go there to win league titles and a couple of CL medals before he hangs up his gloves.

Worked out well. Think Courtois available and DDG’s poor World Cup both meant Madrid lost interest.

Worked out very well indeed. He would have been gone IMO if he had made a few big saves in the WC. Thankfully his defenders left him no chance will most of the shots he faced. (I choose to forget the howler!)

he should be the best paid player at the club - I'm not totally convinced he's guaranteed to spend the next 5 years if we continue to struggle

we've a year of upheaval potentially ahead of us, not the best environment to persuade players to sign on

his contract should be prioritised

There's a good chance De Gea contract announcement will be used in an attempt to mask/defuse some of the fall-out from the inevitable lack of activity tomorrow.

You'd like to think so but contract talks with Martial halted in December just before the transfer window opened and resumed in March.

Ter Stegen has really established himself over the last 2 seasons,he’s basically played every game for Barca.Hes a very good GK,but he’s a notch below Courtois, let alone David....Obviously with Madrid out of the way we can breathe much easier, and frankly no top European club will be willing to pay him what we are paying him right now.

So I can easily see him staying here for atleast the next 3-4 years, but like I said,we need to keep reaching the latter stages of the CL consistently and we need to keep fighting for the championship regularly....

I think this secures De Gea's stay at United for the long term - from my understanding he sees the value (legacy wise) in being at United for 15 years rather than being someone who gets lost in the fog at Madrid (I mean look at how they discarded and treated Casillas!)

I think Ter Stegen is a phenomenal goalkeeper, and while De Gea is certainly better, Barcelona have no need to spend an exorbitant amount of effort and money to try and lure De Gea.
Courtouis will be Madrid's number 1 for the forseeabe future - he's top class. The only real danger for United is if the club fail to challenge for the CL/PL in the next 2-3 years, but I doubt this will be the case.

The best thing to come out of this transfer window is De Gea isn't going anywhere.

He became more appreciative lately when he speak about the club. He could very well be staying with us for many many years.

Dave stays!

I reckon he’ll be here a long time, will be remembered alongside Scmeichel and VDS as UTD greats.

I think he knows and appreciated the love he gets here. Love the guy. Been great to watch his development. Deserves mega money.

Useless Barcelona want him now I don't think he'll ever leave. Barcelona aren't exactly known for buying keepers for top dollar either.

Delighted he's here but part of me feels sorry for him having to deal with our shit.

He won’t be going now after Real Madrid getting a new keeper, result.

Give him a new contact straight away man deserves it, been our best player over last 4/5 years.

Do none of you guys now fear him going to PSG next year?

They have signed Buffon but its highly likely that he will only be there for a year meaning they will be after another stopper next summer.

If he hasn't signed up by December/January time I think he's gone, I really wouldn't hold it against him either as the guy should be challenging for the major honours every season.

PSG will more likely go for Oblak. He'll be a lot cheaper and the thing with Dave wasn't necessarily a preference of Real over United (he's an Atletico) but moving back to Madrid. I think for him it was Real Madrid or Manchester United and now he's settled three more years in Manchester.

In the case De Gea didn't sign a new deal, he'd have a year to go on his contract. As great as he is, I don't see a keeper with a year to go on his deal costing more than 100 million, which is what Oblak's clause is.

Why go to PSG if he wants major honours?

Says who? He would have a year left on his deal while Oblak has a 100m release clause.
Until Dave signs a new contract, his future is far from secure.
