De Gea contract talk | Signs new deal

With the acquisition of Sanchez, I think players would now be more useful to us, but only if DDG really wants to go there.

I’d take Kovacic + Theo Hernandez (plus money) or they can feck off. And if they start making it difficult, they can chuck in Ashrafi (or whatever that young RBs name is) too.

Real Madrid don't have the money for De Gea if they want this supposed overhaul.

Courtois (to @sportfootmag ): "If Real Madrid want me, I'd have to speak with Chelsea. If they are interested, my personal situation would affect things. My two kids live in Madrid with their mother. The family aspect has no price, my heart is in Madrid"

That should be the end of Madrid's interest in David. Hope he signs a new contract and stays here for the rest of his career and ends up making the greatest Man Utd XI and one of the best keepers to ever grace the English league and world football.
I think if he stays here another 7 years he will be the best United goalie ever and the best to ever grace the English game. I think he's going to be one of the top 3-5 goalies of all-time.

He needs more trophies to be considered the best by history. These aren’t my rules it’s just the way it is.

That's a bargain.

If we don't get Dybala or some really quality player with that cash, then Real can keep it. The point of selling him would be to reinvest, not store it in the money bin.

Dave might be desperate though. If Real sign Courtois instead, I think his dream may be over.

What on earth are you talking about? What dream are you talking about?

IF David wants to leave this summer, then we must let him go.He's been a perfect pro for all these years and he never kicked up a fuss when his move collapsed a couple of seasons ago.He just got on with it,and if he wants to leave then good luck to him.

Let's take 50-60 million from Real and let's sign a top class GK with that money.I think it's utterly pointless to lose him for free next summer, let's sign a top class GK this summer and let's settle this issue for good....

Edit: Also, his contract does not expire next summer, but in 2020.

"Must" let him go? There's no must. If DDG wants to go let them cough up 100m or feck off.

The dream of going back home,I guess.Theres no way in hell that he can claim to have "always dreamed of playing for Real",he joined Athletico when he was 13....

His contract will expire in 2020 when the option is activated. We're not going to sell him for less than £100M. Courtois on the other hand will be attainable for £50-60M if he is adamant about leaving.

Well,if we demand 100 million then Real obviously won't play ball...We"ll lose him for free next summer and we"ll anyway have to eventually find a successor.IF(and it's a big if),David makes it clear that he doesn't want to sign a new contract, then why should we hold onto him for another year?We can use the 60 million from his sale to sign a top class keeper who"ll stay for the next decade....

His contract is up in 2020 NOT next summer!

He's not obliged to activate the option, right??What if he refuses to activate the extension clause, can he do that?

He can't refuse. The option will be activated by the club, as confirmed by Mourinho a couple of weeks ago.

“It's obvious that we are not going to let the option [to extend his deal] disappear,” Mourinho told reporters at his press conference on Friday.

“A goalkeeper like he is, at a club that wants to be better and better and better – we are not going to let that option go away. We are going to try.

“[Executive vice-chairman] Mr Woodward is not on holiday – he barely has holidays – and of course he is going to try to give him a contract that keeps him here for much more than the option that, of course, we are going to execute.”

Cheers,my bad! We"ve got no reason to let him go this summer then,we can keep him for at least another season....

He's an absolute boss. Best keeper we've had imo.

BS articles. Spending all that money on 28 year old keeper would be madness considering we need to deal with replacements for BBC (or at least two of them).

If we buy a keeper it will be Courtois. Younger, cheaper and also world class.

Agree to whatever his demands are, and get him to sign the maximum allowable number of years for a contract in return, done sorted.

Would still be 27 and can have up to a decade left at the top level. For Real though it'd make more sense to go for Courtois who, at the age of 26, would cost about half what De Gea would.

Thank god you stopped short of saying Courtois is better.

How are they BS articles? It's what United would demand from Madrid if they were interested which I'm sure they are, don't think the article says that is what Madrid are willing to pay though.

Heard a stat that goalkeepers have given away 27 pens in the last 3 league seasons out of which Courtois has been responsible for 5 . I know Dave usually sticks to his line but can anyone remember any pens he has given away ?

No.. Not in any recent memory

I can't recall any.

I remember the one in his debut for Atletico where he committed the penalty and then went to his line and saved it! That’s pretty bossy considering he was only 18.

Don’t think he commited any in the PL at all - not even in his first couple of years here where he generally looked shaky in the box.

"Manchester United 'demand £115m for David de Gea' with Real Madrid set to make fresh approach for goalkeeper"

set to, expected to, about to... usual click bait

Sure is probably click bait, but it's under the inference that Madrid would be interested in De Gea which I'm sure they are. They won't sign every player they're interested in.

Someone above wrote that the source is Sport. If it's Sport or Diario Gol then you know it's complete BS. Those Catalans only invent stuff that would destabilize the club, which De Gea story is at this point in time. Navas is not the best keeper in the world, but he's not a problem right now.

That transfer would demand a lot of resources both financially and man hours to actually make it happen. We have more pressing matters to attend to this summer and we'll probably burn a lot of money on a striker and a Hazard/Dybala type. De Gea doesn't fit in. Just my 2 cents, we'll see what happens.

Fair enough about the source. And if you think Navas is fine, I'm assuming you think Madrid won't sign a keeper at all? Think the point of the article was not that Madrid will pay £115m to sign De Gea, but rather United will demand a fee for any club interested,

You definitely are right about more pressing matters for Madrid which is why I feel confident De Gea will remain at United. The problem for Madrid and for any club is the cost of players is significantly high. Either Hazard or Dybala will go for £100m+ you would imagine which is why I agree prioritisation from the club will be important.
