De Gea contract talk | Signs new deal

Whether it's made up or not - I don't know - but it's a reasonable price for a keeper.
Reasonable price for a GK? I don't get this.
How many GK moved in their prime from a giant club like ours? I fail to think of one. Top GK rarely change clubs. Juventus bought Buffon for how much and how long ago?

If De Gea leaves anything less than 150m is a steal.

Juventus bought Buffon for around 30 million and there is a reason it stood for around 15 years whilst the market was inflating year by year. Usually keepers just don't cost as much.

I don't have any concrete evidence but I've always believed that Dave seriously wants a move to Madrid. If it comes to letting him go, we need to have a player like Kovacic or Isco moving in our direction plus some good money. Our focus should be strengthening the midfield.

That was few years ago during the fax incident. By making him a 200K player, DDG is considered expensive to most clubs particularly RM have to better this terms together with a big transfer fee. That's why there was all those rumour about swapping DDG for Bale and treating us like a sucker. Straight (huge) cash and RM will stay away, while we can afford to offer DDG a good wage.

Now it's not the most reliable site, but on transfermarkt it says 47.6m pounds, and generally I've read through the years that it's closer to 50m than 30m.

The reason that it stood for so many years is that great GK rarely leave big clubs in the peak of their powers. Buffon left Parma. If anyone wants to take the GK of the biggest club in the world, they should pay up an outrages fee, anything else and we are mugged.

You do have a point.

Maybe it's that part of me that believes that players who really want to stay with their current clubs come out boldly and repeatedly to say so once rumours are flying around about their leaving.

On second thoughts, maybe Dave is seeking much better pay at United, hence the rumours about his moving over to Madrid. Classic Ronaldo strategy?

That is possible, this is what you pay your agent for. While 350K is a huge sum, if we bring down the basic wage to a more reasonable level (well, 250K is reasonable in today market) with other add on, then an agreement is feasible.

Pay the man. If Sanchez is getting near 600k with all his bonuses then surely DeGea is worth 375k. It may screw us long term on what else we can do in the market due to wage bill maybe taking up a big percentage of our budget but didn’t someone say compared to our income the wage budget is like something under 10%

It's around 50% - which is very very good. I believe Barcelona are around 80%.

Well more than I thought but still our wage bill is up there and the fact that is only 50% shows the financial juggernaut United are. That’s crazy. Maybe Woody wasn’t lying when he said we can make deals other clubs can only dream of.

Yes

I firmly believe De Gea will sign a new deal, 300-350k a week seems to be the norm for his calibre at present (World Class). Hope he signs before summer otherwise the way of football it'll be 400-500k a week and even for football and a club that can afford it thats just a bit nuts IMO

IIRC Buffon cost 70/80 billions of the old Lire (€35/40m) but 1) he was 24, 2) he was touted as possibly the greatest ever in the position, 3) juventus had 140 billions of lire(Zidane) burning a hole through their pockets and 4) they really really needed a gk as van der saar was an absolute clown for them at the time, almost as bad as Taibi for united

Development as expected....and people here laughed when we didn't want to sign 18 year old kid on wages higher then anyone not called Ronaldo or Bale.

What development?

That's the first time I've ever seen an "I told you so" being played before the so has even happened.

Zlatan, Fellaini, Carrick...should free up plenty of those precious weekly grands to give Dave a nice top-up!

However I do feel half the games this season Dave has had nowt to do, so my gran could play in net and it wouldn’t make much of a difference.

He's been world class for us for like 4 years. If he goes he goes, at least we got him at his prime unlike Ronaldo

Sorry, goalkeeper's prime is 30+. So DDG is yet to hit his prime, and he can still improve on his distribution and commanding the defence around th box.

In terms of maturity and experience sure 30+ can be a prime but it's not the same linear path for every keeper. Some fell off a cliff when they reached 30, it's no secret most of the best keepers in the world currently are below 30. In terms of his raw athleticism/reactions this is probably as good as he's ever going to be, I think DDG's currently in his prime I'd be surprised if he got any better than he already is.

DDG may already be at his best in terms of stoppage, but as I said he needs to improve on his distribution and command inside the box.

At the risk of being shot down, if he does go we get one or 2 of their players -that we need, not just their cast offs-and while Romero is not as spectacular as DDG in some of his saves (and no, I am not saying Romero = DDG) he is hardly a Bosnich , Howard or Taibi.

If Madrid want him, they can pay through the fecking roof.

Bollocks to keepers don't cost that much.

Break the transfer record, or feck off

I think the trajectory we're on - which is at best flatlining compared to City's soaraway form - and the negativity of the club under the current management (and shaped by City's success, in truth) will result in him leaving.

It would be a disaster for us, he's been ace.

Time flies, not so long ago he was the new kid on the block with the likes of Ferdie, Vidic, Evra, Giggs, Rooney still leading the dressing room. Now he is one of those whos leading the dressing room. Also, our supporters have been nothing than supportive to him through his time here, i think he feels appreciated, something he might be not at Madrid.
He will stay, Jose loves his GK apart from Madrid, his GK always one of the best in the world.

After today I honestly won't hold it against him if he leaves. This guy should be lifting CL titles and standing behind world class players, not watching them on TV. Doesn't deserve the dross we all got served today. Felt sorry for him.
