And Arsenal accepted on the condition they could get a replacement but they couldn't, so he was worth £60M and not £80M.

They only accepted it right during the deadline day. The initial price that they wanted was £80m, City knew Arsenal is a selling club so they tried to bargain it.

£60m was always the bargain price, £80m was how much Arsenal worth him.

Exactly. If it wasn’t for that ‘fax machine’ he’d be a Real Madrid player now.

If Madrid’s interest is serious this time then I have no doubt he’ll push for the move.
What fax machine? The only concern of the fax machine is it was never used. Madrid backed out of the deal, they sent nothing to the Spanish FA. This myth about something having gone wrong is a fabrication by balbage live on sky. Because it could never be Real who acted wrong now could it. Except United released their copy of the fax confirming it was sent over 10 mins before the deadline. All Madrid had to do was countersign it and fax it off. Which we now know they never did! Its pretty much confirmed by the haste in which DDG signed his new 5-year deal. Had he really wanted to go to Real, he could have seen out his then-current deal and headed off years ago! Its also what I base my much-repeated claim, DDG hates Real, the screwed him over!

Also, last summer on here, someone had a tweet liked by DDG. Where it said something like DDG would never play for Real Madrid before he unliked it again. That message is here somewhere if you want to search it out!

Just pay him whatever he wants. If Madrid wants him, we should ask for £200 million. Non-negotiable. He is THAT important.
500M buyout clause and 300Kpw should keep the vultures away! He's the No. 1 keeper in the world. Why not pay him what he's undoubtedly worth.

"Real Madrid are set to offer Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United in an attempt to secure the services of David de Gea, according to reports.
Spanish outlet El Confidencial say an unlikely exchange deal is being touted by agent Jorge Mendes."

And have Ronaldo throwing a strop whenever Martial or Sanchez don't pass to him and go for goal themselves? No thanks.

Will take 100 mil + Kovacic though.

Yeah that deal sounds fair tbh, Kovacic would be a welcome addition. Ronaldo probably appeals to Woodward from a marketing perspective though.....

Romero could do the #1 shirt justice IMO, but I’d also renew Henderson and loan him to a premier league/championship team next season with a view to eventually coming back, he’s got something special about him.

I'd be annoyed if he wanted to leave / we let him go.

Aside from his obvious quality, he's pretty much irreplaceable and for me and one of the few players in the squad that I identify with as a United player due to his longevity here. There's been so much change since 2013, we need a strong core of long-serving, loyal players.

Also we pretty clearly fed the media a while back saying we have 0 interest in Ronaldo, I'd assume we'd have even less if it involved our best player going the other way.

This! De Gea signed that contract so quickly after because he knew what Madrid had done. Stupid to even consider the "broken fax machine" theory when there are so many other ways to have gotten the contract completed.

If thats true, it all but confirms Madrid can't afford DDG. Especially this summer.

Madrid know they need improvement further up the pitch, DDG's an afterthought they think they can sneak over the line for cheap, they're in for a very rude awakening.

We don't need the money, and it would be strange for him to want to leave now of all times. I also don't think Real can afford him with the amount of other massive issues with their squad, GK is one of the last positions they need fixing.

Ronaldo is the last player i want from Madrid if a player has to be used to be in exchange for De Gea plus cash, okay make that Keylor Navas too

They won’t buy him, they have a budget and need more options in attack I doubt they can afford him.

I don't think we'll sell him, I think the 2 years we'd get out of him would be worth more to us than the money, plus it gives us a long time to weigh up potential replacements and make it so we choose the right player.

Kroos, Varane, Isco would be the only players i would take in exchange.

I would rather we sign him to a long term deal, but i dont think he will.

I would rather keep De Gea

Ronaldo was great for us, he chose to leave and became one of the best players in the world, still is a class act.

We have had several short term superstars at the end of their career that have been excellent for us
Zlatan is the latest and it was great to see him and others in a United shirt.

Difficult to explain but I dont have the enthusiasm I thought I would have to see him back in a United shirt.
Maybe its all the Non football stuff that appears to come with him.

I would rather keep De Gea, and add younger class players to the squad than have Ronaldo back for 1 or 2 seasons,
He chose to leave to play his best years elsewhere, thats how it is I have no problem with that.

But I dont see United as a retirement home for big stars wanting one last big payday, I would rather we spent that money
on a player that can offer something for years to come.

Or maybe I am just sulking because he chose to give his best years to Madrid,

Either way, rather keep De Gear

I would take Kroos for De Gea. And then get Donnarumma or Oblak.

Did I hear @giorno @carvajal that he could possibly be sold by real?

Very good team in my opinion.

I genuinely think we're better equipped for success in a domestic and European context than Real Madrid right now, and going into next season. They still have some very good players, but they need major surgery, especially at the sharp end of the pitch, and if he was making a purely football related decision, I'd like to think he'd see United as the better chance to win trophies in the short term (can't actually believe I'm saying that btw, given how good Madrid were 2-3 seasons ago).

Thats the problem, I think. It's nothing to do with football anymore. He want's to go back to his home country, his girlfriend is like 32 so she's got to be starting to think of having Children if she wants any. It gets harder and harder as she gets older. So if they are thinking about something like that then there is no way we can really keep him. And I understand his decision. I'll hold no ill will towards him. But we need to let Dave and Mendes know that we want the deal of the century as he is possibly the greatest of all time. So when he does move to Madrid we will be made whole. Either by taking one of their best players (excluding Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema) or we want at least £100 million for him.

At least we're in a position where people aren't saying "Oh, I don't begrudge him a move because Madrid are clearly the better footballing team" like they were around the time of the fax machine fiasco. If he wants away because of personal reasons, fair enough, but I genuinely can't see Madrid paying what we'd want for him. Plus, I think we'd be crazy to let him go unless it was silly money, especially if we've got aspirations of returning to the echelons of Europe's elite.

Well if Madrid won't pay what we want I guess he'll stay here until 2020 at least. Thats fine with me.

As for us being crazy to let him go - well, not if it's for personal reasons. If he doesn't want to live in England anymore, then thats that. Not even him, it's his girlfriend. We just have to bite the bullet and do our best to replace him.

Yes,could be an option,if the offer is really good.Although I don't think the club is looking for a sale

You mean Man Utd would have to give money + De Gea for Kroos. I don't think that'll happen. I thought Madrid would be looking rid of Kroos this summer?

Only way he'll leave this summer is if it's part of an exchange deal. Don't see how Madrid can finance a 100m+ move for a GK when they potentially have to replace Ronaldo, Bale and maybe even Benzema within the next two years or so. They need a Neymar type player, not a GK.

That's my thinking as well. No doubt they'll try to offload Ronaldo or Bale to us. No thank you.

Give us Kroos, Isco or something. Then we talk.

I could see Dave staying another season then leaving on the cut price deal in 2019. Ah well, I suppose, I doubt anyone can do anything about it, if his mind is made up.

If the worst happens how good is Navas ? We were getting him for DDG when it all fell to pieces is he any good if we must let Dave go we can get Navas and one of Kroos or Varane
