De Gea contract talk | Signs new deal

I suspect I was right. Mourinho quoted below;

José Mourinho: “I would say Cristiano is the kind of player that everyone wants, but only one manager can have and only one club can have – Zidane and Real Madrid. That’s my feeling.“ (Source: @ManUtd)

Given half a chance Jose would sign a Ronaldo whose going through a major decline and give Madrid extra financial power to pursue DDG :(

Nah, he's just being diplomatic is my guess.

His mrs lives in madrid though? As much as he loves it here thats got to take its toll
Maybe. I heard that line of reasoning before. They make it work. Madrid and Manchester are not far by commute. He could have gone back or forced a move before. I just think he's happy in Manchester.

Of course he is happy but being happy doesn't stop one from dreaming or thinking it can be better at another club.

Mourinho is putting a few words out in the press for Mendes.

We're not going to bring in Ronaldo, there just isn't room for him.

I genuinely don't think he dreams of being at Madrid. I truly think he's happy here. This is what he said last week, but of course it wasn't reported.
"Just being part of this club is special in itself," he said. "Being a player and a part of this club is special, so when you get to wear the shirt, you go to away games, that's something you are always proud of and is very special.

"Being part of such a great club like Manchester United fills you with emotion and you gradually realise how much the club means to the fans and the people who work here. They really live for the game, so that does become part of you and you can only appreciate that having spent time here."

Every player playing for their club says stuff like that. I think Mikhi just said joining Arsenal was a dream. Unless the situation is really bad, most players say stuff like "wonderful fans. Big club. Great team" and obviously it doesn't get reported because it's very bland stuff.

Still, I think DDG likes his time at Manchester but he must be at the very least thinking of a move for a change/different goals

If he stayed during the LVG era, he'll stay now. I now the allure of Real is tough for any player to resist let alone a Madrid native, but we're finally on the right path after years of floundering. We're showing big ambition in the transfer market and have the most decorated coach in the world. We have a young core that is a few pieces away from being elite, and if he helps us to getting back to where we belong winning league titles and CL's then he will be remembered by the fans forever. The question is, does he want to be a legend or just another shiny new toy for Perez?

Glad all players are robots and we can trust nothing they say, especially when it comes to appreciation of a club they've been at for 7 years!

“I’m no longer thinking of Madrid,” he told the British tabloid. “That dream is dead.

“The only thing I dream about now is Manchester United and winning the Champions League again in Rome.”
Guess who said that and when? There are clear clues in the quote.

EDIT: but wait, there's more!

"What people are saying now is not true. Who says that is a liar because I am happy at the club, I want to stay here. I feel at home here. I feel very happy here."
"I am very happy here. I want to win more trophies here. At the moment I think I am at the right club. And I want to win trophies next season as well."

If van Dijk goes for 75m when he publicly wants out, de Gea should fetch a lot more than 100m.

I hope we tie him to a long-term contract. If there's a release clause, would hope that it's around 150m.

I think the script is pretty easy to read. DDG leaves for 100m or (most probably) he will end up being involved in a swap deal + money for Asensio/Isco and we get Donnarumma for around 50m. Mendes get his move, Mino get paid for not causing too much hassle about Mkhitaryan, DDG ends up playing for his Real Madrid and we'll end up with the future DDG.

You've figured it all out, it seems.
We'll never get Donnarumma for that amount with Mino around, and with a major rebuild coming fast around the corner for Real, I refuse to believe that they'll sell either of Isco/Asensio. They are ascending for superstardom.

I doubt the credibility of such reports as I don't see Real losing out on 15 million pounds just because it's a club which has caused them problems in the past. Nonetheless, we should demand a high fee for de Gea, no questions asked.
United and Madrid relationship hasnt been the best for years, i think United had a bitter taste left over from summer 09 when Ronaldo left for 80million and they signed a half fit/one knee Kaka form AC a week later for 70 odd million. United were short changed and Madrid had been able to get in Ronaldos head.

its clear the De Gea transfer saga and what United did with the fax machine etc Madrid were going to retaliate, and Morata was the perfect opportunity.

The press were briefed about Uniteds bids and the last one for £90 million was rejected United went to plan b Lakaku

In this market DDG is worth what Real Madrid are willing to pay to get him. If that does not meet what United feel he is worth, he'll go nowhere. I don't see him moving this summer unless RM are going to spend €300m this summer. They have a lot to overhaul (apparently) and will want to get those sorted as well. Unless they sack Zidane which looks very likely. The next manager may feel he's good with the attacking players and move for DDG.

I've always felt he was going to leave sooner rather than later anyway and I'm okay with it as long as Ed does not give in to those cnuts without a fight. If the previous transfer had gone through, we'd be using Navas and Romero. Whatever happens though, I'm sure Jose will go for a top keeper to replace DDG. But if we need to pay €60m for a top keeper, DDG is valued 2x that. It just amazes me that players continue to blow a load over playing for that circus. DDG will go there and end up making half what he's making at United because they don't pay keepers high wages.

The DDG to Madrid stories are going to happen every year, just like the Ronaldo to Utd stories. Can't see it happening myself. He stuck around through our rubbish last few years and Madrid's great last few years. Why would he leave now that we're on the up and Madrid are on the slide? A juicy pay rise and all will be well.

DDG hasn't been mentioned any more or less than any of the other big name keepers around. I wouldn't worry too much just yet. But honestly, we got our warning and I'm just glad he's stayed here as long as he has. If he is adamant that he wants to go we should let him, under the obvious condition that we get an obscene amount of money or money and Isco/Kovacic/Asensio etc.

I think the discussion has been fuelled by his comments, which are concerning.

Offer him some obscene 350k\week contract, RM won't match that for a GK.

He is the best GK in the world, easily worth it to us.

We will probably upgrade him to 250k a week. I bet the best Real would offer would be about 150k not to mention the valuation of at least 100m. Not happening this summer especially given Real Madrid's urgency to buy a forward or two.

I haven't figured anything out but I did made an educated guess. So lets tackle your enquiry first. Real doesn't seem too bothered losing up homegrown top talent. Else how could you explain them letting Morata (13 goals in 32 matches this season) go? Now according to whoscored Asensio had played just 9 games in La Liga this season 7 of whom coming out as a sub. Do you think the boy will be happy rotting on Real's bench especially since

a- many clubs would love his signature include us
b- they seem to be quite busy courting the likes of Neymar, Hazard and god knows who flashy player is in fashion at the moment.

I doubt it.

So here's what I think.

A- Donnarumma wants out. Raiola had taken things too far with Milan and he knows it. Thanks to him all Italian clubs had turned against the boy so unless Mino figures a way to get him out of this mess then he risks losing the player for good. Now Donnarumma has two clauses. One is 100m euros but that applies only if AC Milan makes it to the CL (AC Milan are currently 7th, 10 points away from 4th place Inter). The other, more realistic minimum clause is that of 50m which will activate once the obvious occur.

B- I was expecting Mino to go ballistic regarding Mkhitaryan. I mean he went ballistic about Donnarumma despite Milan showered the boy in gold coins, gave a job to his incompetent brother (ok we did the same with Phil but that was under the illusion he was good enough for us. AC Milan know that Antonio Donnarumma is shite) and accepted every single clause he wanted. How could this guy stay calm and relax as his 'beloved boy' moved to Arsenal like cattle? You have to admit that is at least suspicious.

C- Real had the unique opportunity to sign two promising keepers but they barely made any moves whatsoever. Kepa who was on a measly 20m minimum clause had just signed a contract. Things seemed so close for the boy but he rejected them. Donnarumma was available last summer and Mino paraded the boy for them. However Real ignored him. Its evident that they want a ready made solution which comes with no surprise considering we're talking about Real here.

D- I cant see DDG signing another contract with us and United can't allow him to leave on free/cheap so this will be his last year. United won't sell cheap though and as many said Real Madrid will be too busy spending the dosh upfront to afford 100m. Considering that they don't even bother playing Asensio and are still courting top players despite having him around then it doesn't seem that they rate him too much don't they?

The only thing that I feel could change everything is courtois. He's the closest available thing to DDG. There again if you had to choose between the two whom would you sign?

Again Madrid comes to the surface, hope DDG stay loyal to us and we can keep him.
When exactly his current contract expires?

De Gea is on 10.5million a year

Pogba on 15 million

to keep him away from Madrid we need to start paying him potentially more then pogba

2019, that's why United offered him a new one. I don't know why Real needs to spend a lot on him when they still need to sign a new striker, Ronaldo's replacement and Modric's replacement.

2020.

It has a +1 clause.

If he didnt sign a new contract i guess he'll be gone next summer. Won't hurt so much though as we'll have other options like Oblak (which is personal fav of mine) or Donnarumma. I just hope we rinse madrid for this transfer, 100 mil pounds will be a good start.

I think this is his last season with us. As long as we get £100+million, then it'll soften the blow.

I think people have taken his comments out of context.
He meant he wasn't going to discuss his contract situation in an interview, not that he wasn't discussing with the club.
The club briefed that we were already in discussions, this was just a day after Mourinho spoke about giving him a new contract.

Far from being good enough at this point.

DDG will stay I think. Madrid is in a bit of a mess at the moment and there is no reason for him to go there when United are heading in the right direction.
