De Gea contract talk | Signs new deal

They've got the £350m pounds worth of stadium renovations to begin next year. Thinking on it, I'm really not all that sure how much cash they are going to have for that and a massive splurge in the transfer market, but either way I don't see them paying the kind of cash we would want for DdG.

DDG will stay I think. Madrid is in a bit of a mess at the moment and there is no reason for him to go there when United are heading in the right direction.

Spain, sun, his wife. Also Real will probably spend a shitload of money to get back on track in the summer. Who knows what's going to happen though. But if he goes we should squeeze them properly or ask for one of the midfielders.

Don't think he's going anywhere.
Losing him now would be such a crushing blow.
I don't think the footballing aspect of moving there holds anymore.
For the first time in years, we look like putting a good team together and Madrid have a major rebuilding job.
In any case, his comments in the interview (people should read the entire thing) and Mourinho's comments make me confident he'll stay.

£100 million for him would be too low if he had 3-4 years left on his contract. But realistically unless he signs a new contract, this summer is the only time he would command a huge transfer fee.

Next summer, with only 12 months left on his contract, we’d be lucky to get £50 million for him.

If he tells the club that he won’t re-sign then we need to sell him this summer and use the money to reinvest in the team.

But he actually left under LVG. Madrid screwed him over

Exactly. If it wasn’t for that ‘fax machine’ he’d be a Real Madrid player now.

If Madrid’s interest is serious this time then I have no doubt he’ll push for the move.

The fact that this is the first time I'm confident DDG will stay says a lot about how Jose is taking us forward. Also, knowing how sod's law works, he'll probably be off in the summer now

Make him the best payed Goalkeeper on the planet. There is no way we should let him leave unless he really, really wants to play for Real even if we offer him more money.
He already is.

He is just missing the CL right? I really hope he can win it here, he deserves it more than anyone in our squad. I wouldn't begrudge him a move to win it in a couple years if we are not getting close.

Why share the interview on social media now, isn't it a week or two old? Can't be a coincidence, announcement imminent!

Fingers crossed. He’s basically irreplaceable in my opinion.

He's not got the urge that Coutinho or Dembele had to get to leave their respective clubs, nor kicking up fuss. If we offer him £275-300k a week there are bright chances he may stay. He's still Spain's and ours #1 keeper, so there should be no issue.

I think that interview was done by the premier league channel and not the club. Don’t get too excited.

I understand the personal factors involved, but I think Dave will be smart enough to realize he's missed his chance to part of that truly dominant Real Madrid side. Sure, if he'd left a few years back he'd have won back-to-back Champions Leagues, but based on the look of them this season they'll be needing a bit of a rebuild, whereas we're looking like coming through the other side on ours. Surely he would want to see that through. The club have shown ambition, are bringing in world class players every window and pay better than anyone.

I'm confident Dave stays.

Just pay him whatever he wants. If Madrid wants him, we should ask for £200 million. Non-negotiable. He is THAT important.

Of course he's going. It's in the Metro

Far from being good enough at this point.

Just like DdG then. The problem is whether we want to take that route again? Getting young potentially world class goalie and give him platftom to bcome the best goalie in the world. If we are looking for quick fix then Oblak is our target.

£50 million is a joke even with 1 year in his contract. He's worth £90 million at least with one year in his contract.

However, his contract has an option for one more year extension. So £100 million is too low in his contract's situation, we can keep him and next summer we will just active the extension to 2020 without worry to lose him for free next summer. So pretty much he has 2 years left not one year.

That’s what I said mate. Next summer (2019) he will have one year left and we will either have to sell him at a much reduced valuation or lose him on a free the following year.

No club in the world will pay £90 million for any player that has just 12 months of their contract remaining.

If he doesn’t sign a new contract, then this summer will be the last opportunity to get big money for him.

Hopefully he’ll just sign a new contract though :)

lol Did you not read my post?

I said his contract has extension means we won't lose him for free in 2019 even if he doesn't sign a new contract. All we need to do is active it next summer and he will be here until 2020. That's why 100m is cheap based on his current contract situation because technically he has 2 years.

Yes I did read your post mate. Every post I’ve made has been on the assumption his contract ends in 2020.

If DDG has decided he isn’t signing a new contract, this summer (2018) will be the last chance we have to get a decent fee for him.

I can’t see Madrid bidding more than £100 million for him this summer and the board will have a very difficult decision to make. Sell him for less than his market value in summer 2018, get only a fraction of his worth in summer 2019 or lose him for free in 2020.

Would be cheap if he had 3 or 4 years but with 2 years they can wait 12 months and get him for £40-50M at most or we risk losing him on a free. The less time there is on a contract, the better it is for a club looking to buy.

Any world class player is worth more than £50m with only 1 year in his contract in today's market. Even as a keeper he wasn't just a world class, he's the best one who can give a team match points. You think Hazard will cost only £50m with contract is going to be expired in 2019?

His contract expires in 2020 hence him being linked to a £150M move. If he had a year left, it'd be more like £80M and if he had 3 or more years it'd be £200M+. Because De Gea is a goalkeeper, he'll be worth less despite him being closer to the best in his position (#1 for some, #2 for others) than Hazard is in his.

If Madrid can't bid more than £100 million then they better try to sign him in 2019 then because they ain't getting a bargain world class keeper with technically of 2 years left in his contract. But this will be a 2014 all over again when he only had 1 year left and Real showed no ambition and de Gea end up signs a new contract.

He has 2 years left on his contract, we'll give him another 100k per week because 20m more over 4 years is dirt cheap for a player of his stature. The exension will be signed.

You guys are just bedwetting right now. I expect the deal to be done shortly after the WC, before next season.

If Arsenal asked 75m or 80m for Sanchez when he had one year left in his contract, I can't see the best goalkeeper in the world worth less 40m or 30m than him. So does Hazard, I can't see a player who has won 2 times PFA Player of The Year isn't worth more than Sanchez.

If we are being serious to win the league and CL we would rather lose the players for free though, if we are sinking ship then we should sell him for profit. Although, not surprised if Chelsea board would rather make profit than winning the league.

He wasn't. Arsenal was asking for £60M.
