If I were Spanish I would definately prefer Madrid over Manchester, that is a no brainer. In fact, why would anyone chose Manchester over Madrid when you consider the climate etc?

I also think that 99% of the world's footballers would prefer Real over us, they are in the CL semi finals and we are not, and we need quite a bit of improvement to produce the kind of football that Barca, Real and Bayern play.

I think it is very likely that he leaves in the summer since that would also render him quite a substantial signing fee due to the relatively low transfer fee.

I think lvg is saying this so that the press rumours stop. He has now shown everyone our hand and has made it clear to us, the fans, what the club's stance is.

In a weird way I think it's the perfect time for DDG to leave (assuming that he will definitely leave one day). We're clearly on the up and in a rebuilding phase. It would be really shit if he left in, for example, two seasons time when we have a settled team challenging for champions league.

With stuff like this it is a miracle we ever sign good players.

Why wasn't he offered a pay raise in 2013 and extended 2-3 years then?
Still had three years left on his contract. Over three years if he were to sign before Sir Alex's retirement (might have been more reluctant to sign after Fergie announced it). But yeah in hindsight, should have been done.

:( he's going to go isn't he?

 my opinion changes everyday though.

Loyalty is something fans shouldn't expect to see in the game anymore.

Fans can only Love the club! as players come and go, more so in the modern game.

DDG has done wonders this season so that his all we as fans can ask.

Damn. Would be a huge dissapointment if dave does leave. And it looks more and more happening now unfortunately.just as we thought our GK department is going to be sort out for the next 10 years.

Still we can look and atletico and they have proven it is not impossible to replace a goalie.even a very good one.

Hope we get the right replacement. There are still some very good option out there.

We were consistently in the latter stages of the champions league for over 15 years and nearly always played great football

But still vast majority of non British/ Irish players would pick Real or Barcelona it's just the way it is, and probably why Fergie often looked closer to home for big signings

We're not the ones who deserve loyalty. It's Atletico fans who will be wounded if he joins Real Madrid.

I hope that we at least push for Carvajal in exchange. Madrid have signed Danilo and maybe they'd be happy to get De Gea without spending a dollar. They can spent 5-10 million on some decent right back as cover and use the rest for one of those handsome attackers Perez is obsessed with.

Nothing has changed. There's an offer on the table and it won't be looked at now because De Gea wants to see if we qualify for the CL, and Mendes wants to coerce us into signing Falcao.

He'll sign a new contract as and when we confirm our top 4 status. Mere formality as far as I can see it.

The way van Gaal worded what he said has me believing that De Gea will probably go. The real question is what we'd get in return - either a shitload of cash and/or a player swap.

If it does come to De Gea being sold, we cannot let those cnuts get the better end of the deal.

And if he does go, Lloris seems like the logical replacement.

How big a transfer fee could we realistically get for De Gea? A lot of people talk of Bale for De Gea, but it would seem to me that we have little in the way of bargaining chips.

Won't be more than 20-25m. Real are in no hurry and he's in his last year of contract. We have little bargaining power. Plus, GKs go for less money than outfield players no matter how good they are.

Fact is that in his 4 seasons at United we have done feckall in Europe while Real have made at least the semi final on every occasion kind of makes it hard to argue against the decision. My only regret is that unlike Ronaldo & Suarez he hasn't allowed us to cash in at all,Real would have gone for him irrespective of his contract situation and so it would have been a nice gesture.

Meh. It's not his responsibility.

Either he's waiting for champions league qualification to be confirmed or he's off.

If he's off then good luck with those spoilt brat Madrid fans calling for his head after his first mistake or I hope Iker is still around. Which will be unsettling for him.

20m? Rm can fark off with that bid. I rather let ddg rot in the reserves for 1 whole season

Neuer went for like £16m in the last year of his contract. People expecting £30m plus are deluded. Toni Kroos went for £20m and was in his last year.

And I rather we use that £20m to sign another keeper rather than letting him go on a free and having to spend £20m to buy a new keeper. We going to lose both ways, so I rather take the money and sign a player who wants to play for us.

Was leaning towards him staying over the weeks , but those quotes seem to imply an offer as been on the table for awhile.

Did you guys really thought that we haven't made an offer already? Of course we did. And it's obvious that he is waiting for something - either a sign from Real or our position at the end of the season.

If anything, Ii counted it as a positive, that LVG said something about these negotiations on public record.

Moyes fecked us over in more ways than one. If we had a competent manager last season, De Gea would have probably signed a contract then.

Buffon went for £32 million in 2001 if you look at how the transfer fees has grown since then anything bellow that sum would be bad business for us.

Player loyalty does not exist. And why shoud it? Clubs are not loyal to their players, and seeks their replacement when they don't perform or when managers change. I reckon moving back to Madrid fits perfectly with DDGs philosophy of money and trophies.

I think we do. We showed patience (at least the majority of us) when he was developing.

He would be incredibly dumb to go to Madrid, it's not the sort of club that shows warmth to players and also backs them if they feck up. They easily turn on him if he does.

I see absolutely zero chance of Real offering anything above 20 million for De Gea because they have no real rush to sign him. They can easily get one more year out of Iker & Navas and it's also not like DDG could go somewhere else if he became a free agent. The only clubs he could go to are Real, Barca (transfer ban plus two good keepers) and Bayern (they have Neuer) so Real aren't going to be naive and put in huge money.

Oh please. We're on the up and he still has more than a decade of top flight football left in him. Would be a pathetic excuse.

He's a cnut as far as I'm concerned if he leaves. Maybe people will think twice about having a go at Rooney then. Probably not.

Leaves a bad taste in my mouth, this does.

Bit of a dick move if he's just after more money. But chances are he wants to be sure we get top four. If he has ambitions to be Spain's number one once Iker retires, he definitely needs to be in the CL.

If he is really set on going to RM he should sign the contract anyway and let us sell him for a bigger fee, just like Ronnie did.

If he didn't have 1 year left on his deal we could hold out for a massive fee but we'll be forced into accepting £30m or so if he rejects the new deal.

Either he's waiting to see if we're qualifying for the Champions League, or he's already decided he's off. If I had to guess one way or the other I'd say he's leaving, but it's not a formality. The recent turnaround in form, new found optimism around the club, and our Spanish contingent could definitely convince him to stay a few more years.

why do people think money is a factor? I'd bet we'd pay him better than Real would anyway

There are loads of factors why he'd move to Madrid that make sense and we couldn't be considered a mean club when it comes to salary - over the years how many players have we not been able to reach agreement with quite quickly?

the only possible long shot reason for him not signing by now is that he is waiting to see how the season pans out and maybe if we get a few top signings in it could persuade him to stay - thats to assume he would be leaving for footballing reasons and we can persuade him to stay for those reasons....

he's a young guy who has been away from his family, girlfriend, friends since 19 years of age.....I just get the feeling his Manchester experience is coming to an end and its more a desire to go home

He's been an excellent player, has never caused us the transfer nonsense that Ronaldo did for example and I would wish him well should he decides to leave

I just hope we get what we deserve for a player probably in the top 3 in his position in the World

The fact that he did not renew yet leads me to believe he is going. Surely the club are not dumb enough to wait this long to renew his contract so it means that DDG and his agent were stalling all this time. I have come to accept that he is going to leave I just hope we have plans to bring in a top replacement.
